My old FAT 60gb PS3 gives me the red blinking light

from what i understand the hhd has died.

does any one know if i can mount it ubuntu and somehow rescue my gt5 savegame?

No, sorry. The drive is encrypted and nothing else can read it. Even if you put it in a different PS3, it will refuse to read it and will need to format it.

thats actually good news. thank you.
already opened it cleaned it. too bad i don't have any thermal pasting left at home, and shops here are closed till Tuesday.
fate does not really like me, my wife if gone for the weekend and really wanted to finish the 24 h le mans race in GT5 :)

Unfortunately, I had the red blinking light thing and it was because the hard drive was dead. Now if it does the red blinking light thing after briefly flashing yellow when you power it up, that's a different story, but if it's just the red blinking light then it is the hard drive, I'm afraid.

as it turns out it was the YLOD. with some guides i managed to get it to boot again saved the files. probably wont last long however 5 years playing are not lost :)

so if the PS3 turns on (green light) flashes yellow once then goes red and turns off this is down to 'thermal paste'?

ok,

so whats this thermal paste and where do i find it?

Cheers.
