Red Recommened gear number? I don't get it.

Sorry in advance, i know there must be a million threads on this but i couldnt find one during the search.

Racing in 5th gear and a "red 4" pops up. Yet i shift down into 4th and its too many rpms for 4th. I don't understand what its supposed to do. :confused::confused:
 
I'm fairly sure it is recommending the gear to be in for the next corner. It's hardly ever right though from what I recall. I've been racing with the HUD off ever since the patch the enabled us to do that, so I haven't seen it for a long time.

It helps for beginners who have never played GT at all. But after awhile they will know what gear to be in, and will not need it anymore. I have turned it off, since the patch came out for it.

The gear indicator just indicates the gear you should go through the following corner. However it does not tell you which RPM to stop at. But most of the time the indicator will ask you to cease under the redline, or until it disappears. This is why you should not always rely on the Gear Recommendations.
 
Imagine it a bit like what a rally co-driver tells you (4 right, 6 left, 2 left etc.). With the difference, that you shouldn't care here. :lol:
 
If you play with automatic, slowing down to that gear (and slowing down a bit as well without going to the gear underneath it) for me means that I'll take that turn without any problem, as for manual (transmission), it may not help you at all.
 
Yes, it's difficult to find in the search, but you can use the " " tags to search for "red number" and "display".
