While I love car games, I know very little about the inner-workings of cars...despite driving myself in 'the real world' lol

Anyway, here's the situation, and I would very much appreciate some advice.

I completed the Sports truck events in A-Spec mode, no problem with my Ford Lightning, and have just started doing some more B-Spec events, thus, need to get it done again.

I (or should I say, Bob), managed to win easily in the first race, but can't do it in the second race (the circular, high speed track). From what I gather, I have the faster car, it certainly overtakes all the other cars early on...but after that, it starts hitting the rev limit, and it has to keep slowing down at about 220km/h, and gets overtaken by roughly all the other cars.

What can I do to fix this? I'm sure it's a stupid question, but hey, I'm car stupid.

Try changing your transmission, Fully customizable would be great but a new 6-speed should maybe be enough if you don't have that already.

I'm NO expert but this is what I would do.

Your truck is running out of gearing, buy the fully adjustable transmission (20k) and turn up the final ratio to allow it to reach higher speeds.

Ok, I was hoping to avoid the transmission situation...because 20,000 is a decent amount of money. I have the first one (I think that's 6 speed, but I don't remember??)

So if I get fully customisable, I just tune the options?

You can't avoid it, yes if you buy the custom trans you go into settings/transmission and there is a little adjust icon, in there you will see the top speed listed and you can increase or decrease it, strangely seperate gears are not adjustable, only final speed.

Thanks everyone, I'll test it out once I've got Bob to finish crushing the rivals in the Japanese 90's challenge with my Skyline.

I used the same truck as you and only got the middle one and won it.

Edit: Sorry saw that you had done yours, it was your Bob that was in trouble, I never do B-spec so sorry ignore my point.

The trick I used with the Ford F150 SVT Lightning is to use the stock 4 speed transmission for the Daytona Track. Bob and yourself will be able to win. This saves you from having to spend the 20G for the race tranny.

A-Spec is so much easier than B-Spec...Bob's always brake too hard and too early...the number of times he lets a car inside him to his line, or outside him into a better line is frankly annoying.

Anyway, I won the event when I got the fully customisable transmission..although, it turned out I hadn't got the 6 speed, just 5...maybe should have gone for 6, but didn't want to risk getting both.

The weird thing was, Bob kept braking too much on the circuit...it was frustrating...and as a result, he kept letting another truck into the race. He constantly barged Bob up the tail and almost spun him out about 7-8 times. In the end Bob won...but it was an ugly win.

Edit: And to the poster above, I already upgraded my Lightning before the first race I did for A-Spec...there's no going back is there? Anyway, a win's a win. I don't see myself doing those races many more times anyway.

try being defensive, block the AI from overtakeing by watching their line when in rearview and block them, sometimes they slam their cars brakes when u do it so it will slow them down for a while

i did this and won, just make sure you get in front fast and make up as much ground as you can before they hit their top speed which is higher than you're cars

For some reason, PD messed up terribly with B-Spec AI at Daytona. Not only is your driver bad, but the AI isn't much better. I understand the braking necessity for corners 1 and 3, but there is no braking needed for the tri-oval unless your car has understeer that could push it off a cliff 500 yds away going at max speed on good tires or using poor tires which make cornering impossible. Upgrading the tranny still won't do much without tuning and babysitting the driver, as he still likes using the brakes on a track where you could run flat out the entire lap.

Having skid recovery on in the race aids kills b-spec's top end speed in each gear. But makes it easier for him/her to control the car:dopey: "of course by skid recovery I really mean active stability managment".

Read the description on the 5 and 6 spd tranny's. They are close ratio meaning get to a lower top speed as quick as possible. Fully customizable is needed in this application. I tuned mine and i won that race by 4 seconds

Try keeping an eye on Bob once you get him out front. Keep his pace constantly in the red. Even in a significantly faster car, he may get passed and lose if you walk away from the PS3 and runs all the way in the blue.

Yup, you can. Just go into Tuning and select whichever transmission you want. You can "detune" a vehicle as easily as you can upgrade it. I swap back and forth on the tranny.

For Laguna Seca I bought and used the first transmission upgrade, then swapped back to the 4-speed after

i dont understand Daytona track at all for the AI, i've driven the circular Daytona and never once used brakes regardless of car, set-up and tyres, i just let off on the throttle cut on the inside and let it coast round till i can hit the power again and fly out of the turn...and nope, i dont have a wheel, i do it on the pad.

It's a fault in the AI's algorythm. When you come up to a banked turn at Daytona there is a slight elevation or "bump" before hitting the turn. I think this is the cause of the AI braking for no apparent reason, what I don't get is why the AI brakes at the Daytona Track's finish line at the end of every lap.

It's annoying, but does not make it impossible to win. My Ford Lightning isn't even fully upgraded.
