My question to you guys would be, should i send the 60gig to Sony to be repaired/serviced for $150+tax, or pay $299+tax for the slim.

Please note, i've just replaced the B/Ray & Power Supply.

Comments & advice please ..........

Replace it I'd say. You'd have twice the memory, but we don't know about the slim's reliability or ability to be on for ages without burning out.

I'd still say replace it - if it turns out the slim is a hunk of junk, you still have the full sized version you could repair.

I would have 60gig repaired! Then later down the road, pick up a slim for just in case! I have a 60gig and that is what, i'm going to do.

I was thinking the same thing, get it repaired at this stage, especially seeing i have already replaced the other parts. At a later stage get the slim version....

My advice: replace it. The trouble with the repair (which I just did) is that it only comes with a 90 day warranty, after that, what happens if it breaks down again? I think an extra $150 for a new system, fat or slim, with a full warranty & more memory would seem to make more sense. There really should be a more reasonable repair option than the $150 IMO - I'm sure Sony are making a big profit on that, unlike on the new systems (kind of like car servicing & repairs).

Isnt the 60GB the only one with backwards compatability?

I say keep it. The slim is ugly. You can always add an external hard drive.

I'd have no problem replacing it, but I have the 40GB(w/80GB hd). My PS3 stopped reading DVD/Blu-rays with something like 6 months in. They did a good job fixing it though, it's been running good for about a year, since. When it breaks again, I'm probably going with the slim.

I would try and get it fixed. The 60GB model is my favourite because one it has backwards compatibility and two its got the best looks over the the others. The new ps3 slim is F.ugly but in performance details you get twice the memory. However on the 60GB model you have 4 usb slots as well as having card readers which none of the later versions have. A simple solution for the memory is buy a new 3.5" SATA hard-drive, take the old one out of the ps3 and replace it with a new one.

I guess it's possible that the replacement blu-ray drive is better (less prone to failure) than the original one.

My 80gb (metal gear bundle) has 4 usb ports and the card reader. It also plays ps2 games(never tried ps1 games). I agree may be a little iffy at first to see how reliable the Slim ps3's are. I would wait a few months to see if there are any drastic failure rates. I personally do like the look of the slim ps3, also like the look of the phat one. But the slim is nice and plain. :)👍
