Summary
This report documents a persistent and reproducible force feedback (FFB) failure affecting multiple racing wheels across several PlayStation consoles and PC environments, despite extensive troubleshooting, hardware replacement, and testing in different locations (2 different houses). The issue has resulted in a complete inability to use sim racing equipment for competitive purposes.
Background
Long-term Gran Turismo user and competitive online racer
Over three years of flawless operation using a Logitech G29 on PS3 and PS4
No prior force feedback issues before the events described below
Timeline of Events
September 2025
Original Logitech G29 clamp broke
Purchased a brand-new G29, which functioned correctly for approximately two months
Subsequent Event (PS3 usage)
G29 connected to a PS3 with a dead CMOS battery
Initial calibration failure occurred
After reconnecting devices, wheel calibrated successfully
From that point forward, force feedback became extremely weak, stiff, and without vibration
Immediate Impact
Same FFB failure observed on PS3 and PS4
Issue persisted regardless of game or settings
Affected Hardware
The identical FFB failure has since occurred on the following equipment:
Logitech G29 (multiple units, including a replacement provided by Logitech)
Logitech G923
Logitech Driving Force GT
Logitech Driving Force Pro (boxed, near-new condition)
Thrustmaster T598 Direct Drive
PlayStation 2, 3, 4, and 5
PC (tested with Assetto Corsa)
Symptoms (Consistent Across All Platforms)
Extremely weak and stiff force feedback
No vibration
No road texture, curb feedback, bumps, or surface detail
Identical behavior regardless of console, account, location, or wheel model
Troubleshooting Performed
The following steps were taken over a period of 3–4 months
Firmware updates on all wheels
Factory resets of PS3 and PS4
Database rebuild on PS5
Full reinstall, uninstall, and reset of Logitech G Hub
Wheel resets on PC
Testing on PC with Assetto Corsa
Testing with multiple user accounts
Testing at multiple physical locations, including:
A friend’s home
A repair technician’s home
Use of a 1000VA UPS with a brand-new PS5
None of these actions resolved the issue.
Findings
Electrical issues at the original residence are ruled out, as the same failure occurred at different locations
Hardware defects are unlikely, as both old and brand-new wheels exhibit identical behavior
Account-level issues are unlikely, as multiple accounts were tested
The issue appears to propagate across consoles, including legacy hardware
Suspected Root Cause (Unconfirmed)
The issue may originate from the initial calibration failure when a wheel was connected to a PS3 with a dead CMOS battery. Following that event, all subsequent wheel connections across multiple consoles exhibit permanent FFB degradation. This suggests a system-level or firmware-related corruption, potentially affecting how force feedback is initialized or processed.
Impact
Complete inability to participate in sim racing for over three months
Missed competitive events, including Nations Cup Exhibitions
Loss of competitive momentum and preparation for higher-level competition
Significant financial impact due to repeated hardware replacement
Requested Action
Given the scope, persistence, and cross-platform nature of this issue, front-line support channels are insufficient. This matter requires:
Escalation to senior technical leadership and engineering teams
Review by firmware, force feedback, and hardware integration specialists
A formal explanation of how such a failure could propagate across devices and platforms
Guidance on whether recovery is possible, or confirmation if the damage is permanent
Conclusion
All reasonable end-user troubleshooting steps have been exhausted. The issue remains unresolved and unexplained. A detailed technical review by higher-level experts is required to determine root cause, responsibility, and potential remediation.
I need to know if there's someone else on this planet is going through the same issues as me ?
Thx again!
