Any way to copy replays so you can get them to play on a computer?

Sorry, there's no way to do this. You can only record replays as a video with an external device.

no they are not .rar's

when you export them onto your hdd they go into your game save files. from there you can copy them onto a USb stick etc and transfer it to your computer but when I open the file my Pc doesnt recognise anything in there other than a copuple of .png files - which are just icon images....

other files it has in there are all sorts of weird formats, I'm assuming they are PS3 readable though obviously. Can anyone shed any light on what thses files are?

The replay file tells the game engine what to draw. It can't be read by anything other than the game engine.

We need some beast computer wiz who can create a program to run these files, it's a bit of an ask but would be awesome.

It's an impossible task, because you would need the whole 3D engine of GT5 including all tracks and cars to run replay files on a computer.

The idea is so simple - look at how large the replay saves are. 15MB for a 10 min replay. This simply means that the save covers only the most basic of information required by the game engine to replicate the race. If it were that a standalone video could be exported to your PS3, that would likely take up at least 500MB of memory.

....yhea.....I know.

And yet other games do it just fine. If you look at Psyonix's Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars ( it on the PSN for about £10 ) it allows the export of 720p and 360p video, editing and upload to Youtube.

The replays tend to be much shorter admittedly with people often just exporting a minute at a time but the files aren't so huge that PD couldn't do it for GT5.

Look at it this way. I download Two and a Half Men episodes which are 27 minutes long - 720p. The file size is about 520mb.

Guys I don't know why this is getting discusses when it's been thoroughly covered before...

1: PD listed export and upload to youtube as a GT5 feature shortly before release, it dissapeared from the final release though. Why who knows, but it's not like PD didn't know about the possibility or that people wanted it, it still didn't make it.

2: There is no way to "convert" the replay files becuase they are not videos themselves. Basically the codec fo these files IS GT5 so there is no one who will write a computer program to conver them because that would involve writing the vast majority of GT5 to work on a computer and porting in all the assets from GT5.

So that's that.

There already is program that can run these files. It's called Gran Turismo 5, and that is the only program that can run those files.

Locking this as it's been answered comprehensively, and there's no need to go over old ground yet again.
