Replay Editing Tools?

I wish I could have access to lots of camera angles for replays, choose which one to use to best catch the action (and if possible, which I doubt, just a simple floating camera to move about and rotate as I please), and save the replay video like that. Seems easy enough for PD to provide that, right? Plus it'd be easy to let us put music or commentary alongside.

What I'd also love to see is something like the LittleBigPlanet/YouTube setup, where you could upload your replay, people can watch and rate it. Maybe you could send links to your GT friends. Then you could look through the newest uploads, most watched, highest rated, and maybe even search for videos you or someone you know is in.

I think something like this should be PD's response to all the talk of livery, rewind etc. I'd much rather see a replay editor than a livery editor. In the next several years to come, with millions of people playing GT5, there are bound to be some of the most jaw-dropping, ridiculously awesome races imaginable happening. I'd take those replays over fancy paint jobs any day of the week. Hell I'd sit around and watch people's replays all the time. Especially the ones that have kind of a story to them, like a Ferrari and a Lamborghini are duking it out at the ring in a classic "who's the best of Italian motorsports" fashion, then at the last straightaway a Veyron comes barreling along and blazes past both of them. Or something like that.

Pro's could do time trial replays and add a commentary audio track with professional insights and tips, and GT could put things like this in a "Featured" section.

...And I'm sure there are tons of other things I haven't thought of, but that's the beauty of UGC, people can always expand its limits!

Wouldn't mind some commentary by Martin Brundle while I push my Dihatsu Copen around Super Speed way... "70... 71... slight understeer... 73..."

Actually, with this whole GT-TV, your theory might not be far off.

I think this might be one of the directions that Gran Turismo takes in the future. If not in GT5, then in the next couple of iterations. Personally, however, I kind of see the Replay Theater, eventually with an editor added, as complete feature by itself, distinct from GT-TV, which I see as an all-things-automotive pay-per-view service. Regardless, with the usage of peer-to-peer capabilities in Prologue, I can definitely see some cool things going on in both of these categories.

A rewind, fast forward, pause and slow-mo replay options would be enough for me. But an advanced replay editor would be cool too. Imagine replay editor + photomode + livery editor :D.

If there is a film mode I will go nuts! Especially if you could control the camera angles, film speed, etc. I do not care if there is not an editor in the game (that would take a lot of work) just as long as I can export them to youtube or an external HDD.

I played Driver yesterday (PS1, remember?)
It had a film director mode. So why not GT5, two generations later?

Would be perfect for capturing rally cars getting some air from a camara man eyeview, from a helicopter, incar cam, bumper cam or roof cam.I remember Driver like it was yesterday :), the director mode was brilliant when driving in SanFrancisco.

I just think this is the way to push the aesthetic beauty of GT to the max. With all of PD's attention to visual detail, it would be a shame not to reach it's full potential. Incredible race footage marred by unsuitable camera angles would be a tragedy.

When PD are building tracks, they have to sit and decide which replay camera angles to use where, trying to catch the most action. The problem with that is that no two races are identical, and that same set of camera angles won't always be optimal. Thus they go with the ones that work the best most of the time.

It seems obvious that the only solution is to give us the choice of angles for each individual race to get the best result from all the years of work put into creating the cars and tracks.

Imagine how many new threads there would be all on people's videos. That's alot. Almost everybody in this website would have a thread of their videos.

This idea of uploading replays to Youtube, anyone know where this came from? I only ask as I am about to buy a Hauppauge HD PVR thingy for exactly that reason, I would be seriously unimpressed if I bought it and GT5 has it incorporated, come on PD, a few details wouldn't go a miss here.

I would love it if GT5 could save the movies to an actual file on our HD so we could just pop 'em onto a flash drive and take 'em to our PC.

With a "film-mode" or advanced replay editor, how long do you think it would be before someone makes a Ken Block gymkhana spoof....

Anyone think it's possible, or even likely, that we'll be able to set up shots like the ones in the intro video, such as the R8 slo-mo shot, etc.?

You can rewind in GT4 but it has to be a saved replay, I don't know about fastforwarding though. Also you can pause it, Just press select.

I never owned GT4, so I don't know. That's good to hear though, as it means GT5 will at least have these features.

I was thinking of this today. I think it would be a pretty nifty feature if it had a replay editor similar to the Film Director mode that Driver 1 and 2 had. GT5 will presumably have a similar Photomode setup to what GT4 had when you are in races, so they already have tons of angles on track at any given point. Plus, now that we have hard drives and the internet, such a feature would be exponentially more useful.
