I was checking some of my posts. Found one of my posts that got rep and it says this.

Surely instead of 'Even' it should say 'Positive' or 'Good'? If not, why does it say even?

If someone gives you good or bad reputation and they have 0 rep points their rep doesn't count AFAIK. A grey dot means no rep has been earned or taken, a green means rep has been given and I don't know what colour rep being taken is.

Yep, Amp's right.

The person that repped you is unable to give out any points yet, as he hasn't got enough points himself yet.

I'd presume that is the default setting for any post, but usually you're unaware of it as posts' ratings aren't visible until they're rated.

Ah, mustve been me. I gave out a lot of rep yesterday, good and bad, because of the great new improved popup window.

And god knows my reps probably wouldn't count

Wait, it cant be. I just remembered I commented on all of mine

Aside from the fact that it is extremely unlikely that you'll ever reach 300 reputation points to gain the 'Quality Posts' badge, is there anyway of actually knowing how many positive/negative reputation points you've earned in total over your whole membership of GTP?

I wouldn't say it's extremely unlikely you'll get the badge. A number of our members (including myself) have the badge. As long as you consistently make good posts you should get it at some point. To answer your question there is no way members can currently check their own reputation level. On the introduction of the system and for a while afterwards you could see your own reputation by clicking on a post which had not received reputation. You'd be shown the message "This post has not received any reputation. You currently have xx points". You could also check your reputation level in your profile (My GTPlanet > Edit Options). However, after a lot of people trying to cheat the system and gain reputation when they hadn't earned it, Jordan decided to remove all notifications of user's reputation. The only people who know exactly what your reputation level is are the moderating and admin staff.

No that I know of. A while back that ability was taken away from us because of the abuse being done to the system (rep-whoring). It seems it's done the job very well. :) I doubt it'll be coming back in the near-future either.

Treed!

It wasn't so much that as the fact that it really doesn't matter. You either have the green badge or you don't, but people were obsessing over how many points they have.

280 points is the same as 10 - neither has the badge.
310 points is the same as 1010 - both have the badge.

There's no awards for levels in-between of almost-having-the-badge-ness, and you don't get special uber-badges for 600 or 900 or 1000 points. The points are fundamentally unimportant other than whether you have at least 300 of them or not (or less than 10 - and yes, we keep an eye on everyone who goes down).

The reason the notifications were removed was to delete some of the mythos and importance assigned to having more points than someone else - which lead to so-called log-rolling - while preserving the basic idea, which is that if a newbie sees something coming from a Greenbadger they can assume it carries a little more weight, as the rest of the community is responsible for giving the Green badge.

Just something I've noticed - When you give negative rep, you get the same little popup window for good and bad rep which says "Thankyou for adding to this user's reputation. May you be lucky enough to recieve the same reputation in return."
Maybe this could be changed to reflect the negative rep you've just given out?

, yes, maybe it should... that just sounds super sarcastic! Is that the exact wording?

I can't find the text in the phrases, but it's really not that great for the default. I'll pass the recommendation on to the developers.

Thats annoying, I have loads of N/A reps from my Car Comparisons thread, and now I've found out they don't mean anything

N/A just means theres no comment been left, it's where it says "your reputation on this post is ..." and it will tell you there if you've go positive or negative rep for it.

I like the idear of a quality posts badge, i've been wondering what it means or how you get it. Obviously it comes from repuation points which i've just found out about :)

Oh if you can only gain rep points from someone who already has rep points.. who started with the first rep point? Cause if no one started with rep points, it would of been impossible for rep points to be given out :)

You also get one point to give per 1000 posts you have, and 1 point for every year you have been a member.

Years of membership garnered automatic points.

As for a description of the quality posts badge the link will help.

Everyone starts off with the default of 10 points. There's also, as Viper points out, free points per year of membership and for every thousandth post.

Does anyone know why when I had an N/A rep and positive rep on the same post it said 'Somewhat Positive'?

Would'nt it just say positive?

Famine is axtually a good emaple: 3 years with GTP + ~17 800 posts = 20 complimentary points.

Just post constructive &/or useful (etc.) posts, you may get there eventually. It's definately more economical than waiting 290 years or reaching 290 000 posts.

There are levels. I don't know the exact values, but there are different ratings for the reputation a post has got depending on just how positive/negative the rep is. A post with 10 positive reps is more positive than one with only one. One of my posts is "Extremely Positive" and has 10 rankings - 10 positive and 2 even.

Actually, Famine gives out at least 64 points per repping. And that was months ago. I think the amount of reputation you have affects the amount of points you give out.

Careful, guys - don't make me regret leaving individual post ratings in our updated templates.

That is not true - under my new (and confidential) rules it would be nearly impossible to acquire such power.
