Resolution Problems

I'm using my old computer while home for the holidays, and I've noticed a problem. It refuses to remember my screen resolution settings - every reboot it reverts back to 1280x1024 (I need 1920x1200). I've changed the resolution in both Windows Display Properties and my graphics card's control panel, but neither setting is permanent. The card is a nVidia GeForce3 Ti 200, connected via DVI to a Dell 2405FPW, all with the latest drivers. It's becoming increasingly annoying - does anyone have any other suggestions?
 
Try this program called PowerStrip, you may be able to force the card into booting at that resolution. http://www.entechtaiwan.net/util/ps.shtm

It's possible that you can't run 1920x1200 through your DVI cable very effectively (trying another type of connector would be nice, but of course you can't), or that due to your card being so old it doesn't support 1920x1200 very well. Have you got another GFX card to hand to check?

It's a weird one, can't help much more, borry.
 
It's very possible that that video card doesn't support that high of resolution, it is ancient.

It actually handles it just fine, it just doesn't return to the resolution after a reboot.

Eh, I don't want to mess with additional software, but thanks for the suggestion. It has nothing to do with the high res I run it at - it returns to 1280x1024 no matter what resolution it is set at when shut down.
 
I have a similar problem with my laptop. I have a dual monitor setup, but I have to "Extend" my desktop to the second monitor after each boot. It finally got so annoying that I just leave my computer on at night now.

What's interesting is that it doesn't disable the second monitor until it has a chance fully load all the startup software. I'm sure it's my ATI driver that's doing it, although I haven't found a way to keep it from doing it.
 
There are lots of niggly things like that on my pc. So instead of shutting down, I Hibernate it. Brings you back to windows exactly as you left it. Even with program windows open.
 
Well I have a GeForce 4 MX (onboard video, 64 MB) and it's highest resolution is 1280x1024. So maybe your setting it so high that Window's is basically saying "Wtf you think your doing mate?" and changes it back.
 
You might want to try looking for an updated driver or even try rolling back to an older version.
 
I had somewhat of a similar problem with my GeForce 3 Ti 500 and my 2005FPW. In order to use the DVI connection, I had to upgrade the card's firmware.

You will need NVFlash and a BIOS image from the manufacturers website.
