Returning Money to an Admittedly Stubborn Keeper?

I clear snow every snowfall for two old ladies who live behind my house (on the other side of the block, they are not derelict), and every time I clear it, they always insist on paying me and/or my little brother, when he comes with me. They usually pay me 2-5 dollars per trip, but they took it over the edge when they paid me $20 for 2 nights. The reason I want to return it is because I feel crummy whenever I take something from them when they should refain from such strenuous work in the first place. Does anybody possibly have any solutions on how to return this money? It is good pay, but I can't take it, and if I came to their house and returned it, they'd give it back.

If they bluntley refuse to take it back, just buy them something with the money and get it delivered.

That's very nice of you to not want to charge them. Maybe nip down to the bakery and use some of it to buy them some fresh muffins or something.

Man, you're having all kinds of trouble. First needing a good way to shovel snow, now you need a way too give the money from shoveling back.

I like Mark T's idea though. Keep the money then buy them something really nice.

Sign them up on the GTP forums and buy them a Premium membership.

As a few people have already mentioned, buy them something nice for Christmas. Next time if they insist on giving you money you can try and refuse or better, say you would be happy with $5 like usual but if their persistent you will just have to take the money or they will get offended.

What's wrong with keeping it? They wanted to give you the money, and are trying to get you to keep it.

Maybe the increase in pay has to do with the upcoming holiday?

meh my grandmother on boths sides of my family try that. i just save it up and buy them gifts for thier birthdays and christmas. it's better if it's thier birthday because it means more to most people than christmas which is a national holiday.

Before this thread dies, I donated it to a charity under their name. They were well-pleased.

Thank you all for the suggestions, and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays.
