I purchased R: Racing* yesterday, and I'd like to do a self-review of the game, if i may.
Graphics
To start off, i'd like to comment on the graphics. I must say, the graphics on R: Racing are better than i expected. First off, the replays are exhilarating. The guys at Namco have really captured the feel of a television broadcast. The camera shows the pit straight at Suzuka and you can see all the way down to the beginning of it, with the camera being situated at the first corner. The car models have been concentrated on as well, with the detail as fine as gran turismo 3. The little look-around, if you could call it that, before a race is excelent as well. The helicopter shot of Motegi looks so realistic and the skyscrapers on the Yokohama track look immensly lifelike.
Rating: 10/10
Sound
This is one point the game lacks. The car sounds do not sound very realistic. Since when has the Bentley EXP Speed 8 had such a high engine note, when it has a V8 in it. The Bentley should sound all raughty and grumbly, like in real life. I feel that they could have done a lot more with the car sounds if they'd done some recording like PD does. The soundtrack is quite good with some of the tunes making you want to tap your feet to the rythmn.
Rating: 5/10
Gameplay
The storyline is pretty good, but the career mode, i feel could have been extended, as it seems too short. In fact I feel they could have extended it much longer. The racing is a very close run thing and the tracks are easy to learn. The car handling is arcadey and i feel they could have done more with it. a very realistic and funny touch is the pressure meter, where you make the opponent tense and make him slip up. another good touch is the radio, where you get advice from your pit and comments fro the other drivers. i especially like Max Schultz, who drives the BMW in the Japan Touring Car CHampionship Class 1. He says some funny comments which make me laugh!!!
Rating: 8/10
Final Analysis
R: Racing is a very good game, with stunning grahpics, ok sound and brilliant gmaeplay. my advice: go get it while it's still on the shelfs!!!
Overall Rating: 9/10
*I call it R: Racing because that is what it's called here in the UK.
