1. never said he had a BODY lift.
2. never said he even had a new exaust
3. never said he had "all terrains"
4. never said he took it off road

Chill out.

okay, what's the problem, ///M seem to understand what i was saying perfectly. well better than you anyways. i wasn't talking about anbody whose posted in this thread or even anybody who is a member of GTP for cryin' out loud. I was explaining what I consider to be tacky when it comes to Redneck trucks.... okay?

Basically, what i described is What I consider to be a poser Redneck truck. I guess i could say those guys are the 'Ricers' of big 4x4's. Get it now?

True - but also stock, and therefore not rice.

I have a suggestion.

Thank you, I'll keep that one in mind.

But you are smoking crack if you think the Vue is faster than a 6-speed ZHP 330i. Think 14.2 @ 97 mph.

M

Vue V6 does 0-60 in 6.6 seconds, your 330i does it in 7.0. Of course, that's with the automatic, it's 6.4 with the manual. Still - the Vue V6 is quick as hell.

Do you know what ZHP means, Doug? It is the order code for the Performance Package. 235 hp, 6-speed, 3.09 rear end. It is faster than a standard 330.

0-60 is more like 5.9 for this car.

M

Yeah, I've looked - it gets 10 more horses, sport seats, and 18" wheels. Oh wow. :P

Anyway - like I said, it's slower than a Vue V6.

 Be a man. Just admit you're wrong. :P

Or better yet, I'll race you in a Vue for slips anytime.

EDIT: Its got a lot more than that.

M

The point is not that the Vue is slightly slower, it's that the Vue kicks ass and takes names. Are you really looking at buying an SUV?

:indiff: Yep. Some time in the next year, most likely.

In my town, over 50% of the vehicles I see on the road are either trucks or SUVs. You may think I'm exaggerating, but I'm not. Sometimes I count them just to make sure I'm not fooling myself. There are TONS of Tahoes, Suburbans, Expeditions, Hummers, blah blah in my neighborhood and most of them are driven badly.

Did you know that in a sedan vs. light truck collision, the sedan occupants are 25 times more likely to suffer a fatality?

I keep getting a vision of some latte-sipping, cell phone calling jackhole t-boning my wife and baby girl in the Jetta.

We love the Jetta. Its a great car. Its sporty enough to be fun to drive. Its large enough to use as a weekend trip car. Its screwed together very nicely. It is cheap to buy, cheap to run. But it is a tiny toy in a sea of trucks, and it scares me.

This is why I hate SUVs. Because soon I will have to own one.

M

If you're looking for a nice, protective bunker for the family, pass on the SUV and go straight for the Magnum...

The Magnum is way fly. But I wonder how it will do in a side collision vs. something like a Expedition?

EDIT: I'd almost feel bad for hijacking this thread if it weren't already on its way to being dead.

M

It's low, but it's got a fairly high belt line and is supposedly designed to absorb side impacts. It also has (optional, but at least available) side air bags for front and rear passengers.

I'll stop this Hi-Jacking!!!

he he, watch this:

Ricers are STOOPID! THEY ARE SOOOO DUMB! STUPID RICERS AND THEIR STUPID WHALE TAILS!

he he, :mischievous: this should get us back on track:mischievous:

I'll definately keep that one in mind, Duke. 👍

EDIT: My wife is fond of the Chrysler Pacifica. Either of you gents have a comment on that one?

M

Well in fact i have never driven a porsche, probably never will. Now, ///M your reply could go two ways, either you meant i wouldn't compliment a 944 if i had driven one, or I wouldn't say such terrible things about Porsches in general if i had driven one..... But Basically I'm just talking about styling. All Porsches are just blah, or straight up ugly (boxer) except the 944 wich i find very attractive. The 911 has looked the same since the dawn of time. And i saw one of the older ones, had a almost an all glass speed back (fast back), maybe a 928?. and that was just hideous.

I know Porsches are really good, overpriced, performers, but I only like one, that is a 1986 944 in red. stock. sweet looking ride.

Yeah - I recommend the all-wheel drive Pacifica, but there's better stuff you can get for Pacifica money. I'm not kidding about the Saturn Vue V6 - it's the best-ever small SUV, and if you're looking at spending Pacifica money, you could end up with a very attractively-specced Vue - the Vue V6 comes with the 250-horsepower 3.5L Honda V6 taken from the Honda Pilot and Acura MDX as well as a 5-speed automatic, traction control, ABS, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, keyless entry, a CD player, a compass, day-night mirror, and temperature indicator, alloy wheels, and fog lights at $22000 for a 2-wheel drive and $23600 for a 4-wheel drive. For $27000 (2WD) or $28600 (AWD) you can have all that plus heated leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped shift knob, a power driver seat, curtain side airbags, OnStar, a power sunroof, a rear-seat DVD player, and an in-dash 6-disc CD changer and MP3 player - basically every option. And of course, I don't need to mention that it's the fourth-quickest front-drive vehicle currently sold and the third-quickest SUV of all time.

Other decent stuff I'd look at if I were you is the Hyundai Santa Fe LX, Nissan Murano SL and - particularly - the Isuzu Axiom XS. Axiom's trucky and resale's horrible, but dealers sell these things far below invoice, and it's a great value, even at MSRP.

The Pacifica is a great van looking thing. My mom has one and it roomy, got pretty good power, looks half way decent and has a ton of extras on it...like DVD navigation, Infinity sound system, the smoothest suspension I've ever felt, the list goes on.

I mentioned the Vue in casual conversation with the wife and she looked at me like I'd just passed gas.

The Nissan Murano has potential. I'll have to keep that one in mind too.

You wouldn't catch me driving a giant, angry steam iron.
I'll continue to lobby for the Magnum as the first choice, and the Pacifica as second.

What about a 2002-2003 Grand Caravan AWD Sport? Resale on those things blows, so you can get pretty good bargains on a lightly used number. They handle pretty well and shopuld turn in 17-20 mpg assuming you don't just crawl around town with it.

Its a pretty striking design, ain't it? The wife's tastes are very styling oriented. Thus, she likes the swanky looking crossovers like the Pacifica and Murano and is very lukewarm on minivans. She's even less enthused by SUVs; my occasional railing on the demerits of a truck based car has had an impact on her it seems.

Personally, I lean towards the crossovers myself. They're unit body and car component based. They're fairly high off the ground. Crash data seems to be pretty good on them. They have some semblance of performance and comfort. I've even come to the conclusion they look pretty good, especialy the Pacifica. The only downside is they don't offer much more space than a large wagon. We'll see how it pans out... ultimately, its her choice.

Fast and Furious is not rice, rice is distasteful moding. A chevy Corsica with a wodden spoiler, and hubcaps wrapped with tin foil to make them shine is rice. A black widow boy kit with a CF touring spoiler and nice decals is not rice, the is exterior customizing. Also the cars in the FF series have the engines in them they are not just paint and glamor. :irked: Rice is plainly distasteful modding, usually exterior.

The Fast and the Furious IS distasteful modding, all exterior. The constant NNNNAAAAAAWWWWWZZZZZZ lines make it even more obvious. The way they show that racing is all about when you press your NNNNNAAAAAWWWWWZZZZZ button is even more rice.

Well, buddy NOS is a part of racing whether or not you want to admit it, it is in fact a different type of racing. It is not motor to motor anymore it is electronics and how much money you can put under the hood. It is a part of racing though, although more imports and smaller engine cars use it does to the sheer lack of power in their cars.

And laides and gentlemen that is the end of the game....

The Nissan Murano SL is the best midsize SUV on the market - which surprised even me. It doesn't look like it's a standout in any particular category or that it's got great numbers, but I put it through the same formula as the other midsize SUVs and it came out way on top, which has been a characteristic of recent Nissan products, frankly. Murano might not have good styling, but it has got good design, and it's a very good drive. I love the thing.

Well, the only car-based SUVs I think are any good are the Saturn Vue V6, Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 3.5 and LX, Nissan Murano SL and Chrysler Pacifica AWD. Frankly, there are a lot of decent non-car-based choices out there - I already mentioned the Isuzu Axiom XS - it's styled pretty trendily.

How about a nice, cute little BMW X3? I hear you can get quite a bit back in dealer incentives. :D

NOS isn't the only part of racing. I know plenty of people with NX, Venom, Edelbrock, and some other systems. So NOS isn't the only part of racing. Now maybe if you said nitrous your statement might have just made since.
