2001 World Rally Champion Richard Burns will be honoured at next weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed, when a host of the sport's top stars turn up to help launch a charity in his name.
The Richard Burns Foundation will raise funds and awareness to help people fighting illness and adversity.
In particular, it will aim to improve quality of life for people living with brain cancer, the disease that claimed Burns's life last year. It will also incorporate the Michael Park Fund, named in honour of Burns's friend and fellow competitor who was killed on last year's Rally GB. The Fund will focus on motorsport safety and will benefit from dedicated fundraising activities.
The Burns Foundation will be present at Goodwood with a display of rally cars from Richard's career, starting with his first machine, a Talbot Sunbeam that he drove in 1987. Money on the stand will be raised through collections, a charity raffle, a membership drive, merchandise sales and auctions of rides alongside the top stars in the sport. Marcus Gronholm, Petter Solberg, Colin McRae, Markko Martin, Gilles Panizzi and Mikko Hirvonen are among the names to have confirmed that they will attend the Festival and support the Foundation.
