Rim options GT4?

I´ve noticed that the wheels of some cars in GT4P look smaller than in real life.

The most noticeable cases are the Nissan Fairlady Z (350Z) convertible and the new Nissan Skyline 3.5 V6 (don´t remember the exact name) which don´t look like 18 inchers to me. Have you noticed any others with this problem?

I think that it would be great if GT4 could let us do a Plus 1/2/3 rim swap to correct this problem, and make the cars look even better, while retaining the same total wheel diameter.

Also, I´d like GT4 to offer some more polished aluminum wheels which really looked polished, such as in the Trial Celica from GT4P. I remember that the BBS LM wheels offered in GT3 did not look "polished" during races (only in the showroom).

And what about deep dish wheels? I´d also love to seeing them in GT4. Many race, drift and street cars have them, and they look great. They should give us different offset for front and rear applications (deeper dishes for rear wheels).

What do you think?

Cosmatic stuff aside, I do think that PD should make the aftermarket rims & tires that actually have weight, and they should varies depend on size and width. I mean they are already using actual wheels from actual manufacturer, this will create interesting tuning options as different combo of tires and rims will generate different unsprung weight which will affect the cars handling. Also I would to suggest the use of actual tires patterns. :p

I think that it woould be nice, but I also think that PD could and will find a better use for that additional RAM memory/polygon count/whatever, then into making rims look bigger.

Making them bigger would mean drawing and programming every rim three times (or whatever more times, depending of the variable size of the rims), together with the tyres. And notice that not all tyres in the game are the same, and notice that GT4 will probably briing even more sponsored tyres. So, the problems with the bigger rims are not just problems with the bigger rims, if ya know what I mean.

Not to speak what would happen if soomeone would try to fit "those beautiful 22" black-chrome OZ beauties" on his P206 or something simillar. I was very disturbed when legendary message "rims can not be changed on this vehicle" (or something like that) were sometimes appearing on screen (BMW, Viper Oreca, RX-8 an so on). Just imagine anger while trying to understand why I can't fit 24" MOMO wheels on my pink Panda. But it is a phuckin game, yes?

To much headache, those rims...

The 2 lap wear is a simulation of many more laps wear. Like if your 2 laps race is a resumed event of 40 laps. That's why the tires are worned out so fast.

The super soft's in GT3 are very much like qualifying tyres that haev immense grip but irl they wore out after 2 or 3 laps. The harder tyres need an extended life though in GT4, the hardest should last a 20 lap race but no more and take it down from there.

Asshat *slaps forehead*

For reference, one of the proposed changes for Formula One, due to come into effect in 2008, is that there are no tyre changes allowed during a race.

 You serious? I don't see that happening at all, what the flag can you possibly gain from no tire changes??? :irked:

They want to keep all the passing action on the track. They want one tyre manufacturer and no stops for tyres. Fuel can only go in at a given rate, so they're already pretty much levelled across the field.

In the golden years of the japanese GT racing, top teams such as Nissan would use 7 sets of tires during a 1 hour qualifying session on their 1200hp monsters. Tires were warmed up during the pit-out lap, fully used on the qualifying lap and then return to pit, to mount fresh tires and start over again.

Like live4speed said before, Super Softs in GT3 are just like these qualifying tires. It is very real indeed.

I always said that one good rule to control the cost of F1 and make it more exciting for all is the "Ballast" system, where winning team will have to be ballasted (up to a certain point) for every win. This will prevent over development, over dominance and add more excitment to every race.

wow no tyre change...blimey.... just an off topic question. does anyone know how many tyre changes happend during a race in F1 during the 80's ???

Every single Lap :p

Yeah it would be great we could get the option of plus size rims in GT4. Putting a set of rims on smaller cars really look stupid as they wheels are so small.

I am glad this thread is going back to it´s original topic "rim options in GT4". Anyhow, the tire discussion was very interesting.

Personally, I think that several cars in GT3 and GT4P had smaller than normal diameter rims. Hopefully, GT4 will correct this.

As I said before, in GT4P both new Nissan sportscars (Fairlady Z & Skyline 3.5 V6) had this small wheel problem. The strange thing is that GTC had the Fairlady Z with what looked like correctly sized wheels. In GT3, I remember that the BMW 328Ci also had small wheels, eventhough the ones mounted in GT3 corresponded to the multispoke OEM 18 inch option.

If we had the option to correct this with plus sizing, I´ll be really happy. If not, we will have to wait until someone gets the XPORT and MK program to work with GT4!!

I would like to see vintage racing wheels, since we have vintage race cars in the game. Old "Indy" style, or the Centerline "racing" wheels that were popular in the early to mid 80s, would be a nice addition.

Don't forget, changing the wheels will change the performance of your car, this time around.

Solid Lifters,

I totally agree with the vintage wheel option. Most modern wheels look weird on vintage cars. I´d love to put a set of classic Compomotive, Abarth or Cromodora wheels on my vintage GT4 cars!!

Keep the good ideas flowing!

Has this been confirmed? So putting big chrome type rims will slow performance in the game and light weight alloy looking rims will increase performance?

I hated how in gt3 there weren't to many rims that suited the cobra wich really pissed me off because the cobra is one of my fav cars.

Sucks to be you ;)

What i'd like is to be able to look around the car manually, especially when choosing rims. When you 'shop' for rims, you only see the wheel, up close. Doesn't give you a 'gran' idea of what the car will look with those.
