As of this writing I am almost 12 hours late, but the Solstice (Winter in the Northern Hemisphere, Summer in the Southern) occurred today at 12:04 GMT.

For those in colder weather, it's the shortest day of the year and marks the beginning of calendar Winter. For those in warmer weather, it's the longest day of the year and marks the beginning of calendar Summer.

Either way, it has been celebrated as a festival occasion for millenia - since the dawn of recorded time. So warm wishes to all! Enjoy the real real reason behind the season.

Yesterday the sun rose at 5:55am and set at 20:42. I love it. The more daylight hours the better.

Is it wrong that I'm ready for warmer weather already? Granted, it can't get all that much colder...

It was 8F here tonight with quite a lot of wind. The wind chill was definitely negative. I agree with you completely about warm weather, but I want some snow first. Oddly enough, we usually don't get much snow until late February/March.

I celebrated the Solstice by staying home with the flu, all while we had a massive snow fall. Good news is that the days will start to become longer, and by the time school starts back up, we may actually see the sun by 9AM. Huzzah!

Yay, things will get brighter again. Not warmer though. Love snow but it constantly being dark gets me down.

Today has already been a very long day. (is the summer solistice)
It is 8:20pm and it seems there is still a couple of hours of light left outside.
Although I wouldn't have realised if people hadn't told me about it.

Ahh yes. The day the sun rises at 10 and sets at 3. Gotta love it. Good thing it's almost like daylight 24/7 with all the snow and clouds reflecting everything.
