I've been following this project for a couple of weeks but hesitated to post it because of lack of convincing evidence of the thing actually working. Some of their animations are pretty good, but others are surprisingly crude. They still haven't shown a drive-dive-scuba-reemerge-drive footage, so I don't know how close it is to actually working.

I still think it's kind of dumb having an open-cockpit submarine...

It's an impressive idea the performance is abit lacking. The reason for there being no roof -

Unlike the Bond original, which featured an enclosed passenger cabin, the modern version has an open top with the occupants exposed to the elements.

The Swiss car designer explained: "The passenger compartment is three square metres of air - you'd need to add about three metric tonnes of added weight to pull it down under the surface.

"That would give it the land mobility of a turtle."

The second reason for having an open cabin is safety: "Even at one metre depth, the water pressure would keep the doors closed so you could not get out in an emergency."

That makes sense. I see no reason why you would need a roof. If you didn't want wet clothes, wear a swimsuit or wetsuit.

This one looks like an Elise to me.

But yeah. Interesting concept, but nothing I would actually use. Although it would be funny to drive up on a busy boat launch from underwater.

I think it's a great idea, it would just be a toy but if it really does work as advertised then it would be cool gadget for those with the money. I want more details on how it works though. Obviously based on an Elise so I'm sure the on road performance is decent even with the assumed weight gain.

More info, apparently it uses carbon nanotubes for the body, I didn't think that sort technology was commercialized yet...
