Motorcycle icon Evel Knievel passed away today at age 69. He had been ill for several years with hepatitis C, diabetes, and lung disease.

I don't know if anybody had escaped death more times than him. RIP buddy.

"What does it feel like to crash? What the hell do you think it feels like? Christ almighty. It hurts."

OMG! I loved this guy. Tough bastard. Reminds me of my Opa. Didn't take crap from anyone.

I love his jumps as a kid, watching them with my dad on ABC's Wide World of Sports. I had his toys, too. The big rig, and the stunt cycle set. Great times jumping over dog doo.

I also have a book about him, "The Cycle Jumpers." It was the first book I read to my first son, and it was the first book he read when he first started to read. Awesome memories of that.

RIP, dude. 👍

That man is responsible for some of my better scars.👍
Emulation being the better part of flattery.
Robert Craig Kneivel--RIP
I see the death of a Sam Adams in his honor.

Man, how could I forget about those!

Skinned knees, skinned elbows, skinned chin, skinned forehead, skinned face, chipped tooth, countless bruises, etc.

Mom's hated this guy.

Here's a video of one of his most famous jumps.

I remember that jump well. Here's when Gary Wells (Evil's #1 competitor) and his own son Robbie attempted it. Gary Wells was the dude on the red dirt bike.

Dare to jump the pearly gate? Heck yes!

Well that certainly puts a somber cap on the evening, doesn't it?

I'd love to think he rode into heaven doing a wheelie on his classic Triumph, I'm sure God would have loved that.

Its so sad when someone so big dies, but when its such a crucial piece of American pop-culture history, it makes it that much more tragic...

Big man with big balls!

Well done mate! RIP.

But to be honest, I thought he was already dead. :guilty:

I watched an old interview with him last night and his attitude made me laugh. He basically described how he wanted the best of everything "best diamonds, best liquor, best cars, best house, best women and doing this is the only way I'm going to get it".

He's lucky that he lived so long, after the amount of accidents he had somebody must have been looking out for him.

I have to admit, this guy had massive cohones.

Nooooo...!

Watched that film about him reciently, the one where its a bio pic..... what and interesting guy!

Im probably too young to remember any of his stunts but I know that he was a legend and he will be missed:(

Damn, he past away? Well he is the only daredevil who can be called "Evel Knievel" Nothing can beat him, except his health..... :( Well its sad too see another sportsman die, especially if they made a great name for themselves....

Another sad news is that my granduncle just past away this evening. Although i'm not very close to him, he is a part of my family and that counts as a great loss. :(

Well I never would have imagined that he would have died so simply. I always figured he would have died performing some lame-brained dangerous stunt. Anyway Farewell to the Original daredevil, Rest in Peace.

How many angels do you think he could jump??

Yes, and 27.

He will be sadly missed.

I broke the news to the fellas at my work, they all said about the same thing: "No way!"

He was an icon to every kid who did something dangerous that they weren't supposed to do in the first place.

A legend, probably responsible for more children's bike accidents across the world than any other human being in all history.
