Looking at the scenery it is hard to tell if Shift's "Riviera" is SCC's "Riviera, but it sure looks close. If it is, a few questions arise:

Did System3/eutechnyx or whoever has the relevant rights license it?

Did EA just noticed that the intelectual property for the track & name wasn't protected and use them (with a few tweaks to the track maybe)?

To all Shift owners that consider downloading this add-on, please post a picture of the track layout (or a movie of a entire lap).

I believe it's a different track bearing the same name (which is the region name), because I've read somewhere that this track would have 4 different layouts.

Maybe EA came across the same issues about licensing the real track as System3 did, and they opt togo the same way

Whoa.:odd: Up until about 1:30 I was wondering what you were on about. But yes, it's just too much of a coincidence. I think you should send Dave from Eutechnyx a PM and ask him about it.

Ok, this is a rip off. How serious I still don't know. I'm waiting Youtube videos of this track in Shift to understand how much of eutechnyx's intellectual property was (ab)used.

I don't believe there is a track actually called Rivera in real life, Both SCC and NFSS are modeling their tracks on Monaco. Most likely Monaco won't license their track... but there is nothing stopping a game company from making a track named for a region! EA isn't "stealing" anything here... they look the same because they are fictional versions of the same real track.

Fictional versions maybe. But from the relatively brief glimpse we have of this track, it looks much less like Monaco and almost EXACTLY to the detail like the Riviera track in SCC. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. But this takes it to the extreme.

Just downloaded the DLC in Shift and took a spin on "Rivera" - yep, it looks a lot like "Rivera" in SCC... because it is Monaco! :) Same as I watch every year on F1. Main difference I saw was that the track in NFSS has the chicane after the hotel tunnel like the current F1 layout has, where SCC is just a straight... but since Monaco is nothing more than a road course there could be differences in track layout for different racing series.

Having looked at that I can confirm that this track is neither a copy of the SCC track nor the real Monaco F1 track. The environment looks similar to both but it is Shift's own version of a fictional track which only shares the same name as the SCC one.

Edit: The first section does look very similar to the real Monaco track. From the start line up to and around Sainte Devote, up the hill at Beau Rivage to the right hander (Massenet) into Casino square all seem to be depicted but after that it goes it's own way.

Actually, watching that reminds me why I couldn't wait to get rid of that game with all its wobbly handling, tail happy, screechy tyred horribleness!!

No not that i am awear of. Maybe you have the delux version of FC.. The only track in FC which was a add on was Nurbergring which we could bye in the playstation store.

No i don't have it my friend mentioned it. I had a look on ps store and it's a addon you can get it with a 5 car pack to.

At any rate, after watching the video addictions posted, it's clear that this track is based much more on the actual Monaco street circuit than it is on Eutechnyx's Riviera track.
