I was a victim of road rage this afternoon. I was driving home from work and I happend to change lanes at the same time as some other guy, who from what I could tell was driving pretty erratically behind me. Instead of changing lanes to get out from behind me, he chose to stay on my bumper. I changed back to the middle lane to let him just get passed me, then he changed along with me, then he change back to get beside me and sped up, he then pulled over on me and was flipping me off at the same time. I had to hit my brakes to stop him from hitting me and even then he was still coming over on me so I ended up gradually moving over and ended up hitting the barrier that separates the highway. I was pissed right now so I called the cops and followed him to get his tag number, after I gave that to them I pulled over to asses(sp?) the damage. This guy, after pulling over on me, was still driving erratically and ended up causing an SUV to swerve because he pulled over on that guy. The police said I could file a report right then, or go home and file one later if I decided. Surprisingly there was no physical damage to the body of my car so I chose to just file later.

Now that ive calmed down I dont even think I'm going to bother with it as it would cause more trouble than what it's worth. I know my wheel is bent and I'm probably going to need a front end alignment.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Eh, once I was delivering food (...to my mom) when a car deliberately sped up while I was in front of and near it. I'm going to say that someone got confused between the gas and brake because I don't believe anyone would be that mean.

I'll admit I'm the guy that will fly off the handle if you mess with me on the road. But I won't cause an accident. I will give you the finger, I will block you from passing, I willing lay on the horn, I will tell you to shove whatever it is up certain parts of the body and I'll tell you to go to a warm and firey place.

Story #1:
Over the weekend I was with a buddy of mine and we were heading across the state to a car show. I was cruising along as 85mph, 15 over the posted limit, and I was in the left lane and a semi was coming up in the right lane. It was no big deal, but some asshat in a Dodge Ram (they are always in a Dodge Ram) comes flying up and nearly clips the semi's trailer and my front end and gets in front of me. I lay on the horn and give him the finger. He passes the semi and jumps back in the right lane and is slowed up by a FedEx Sprinter van, I sped up and blocked the guy. We were traveling 70mph in a 70mph zone and this jackass in the Ram couldn't pass. I got a kick out of it and so did the FedEx guy, the Ram guy eventually passed us on the shoulder of the road and sped off. I wasn't doing anything wrong since it wasn't my fault I was going the speed limit and so what the vehicle next to me. A fun way to piss someone off though.

Story #2:
Back in January I was with 3 other guys and we were in my truck headed down to Detroit for the auto show. There was a long line of traffic in which I had been sitting in for about 20 minutes to get through a light and into the parking garage. Well the light turned green so I sped up to try to make it so I wouldn't have to wait for another cycle. Well a guy in a Dodge Ram (he was a firemen, had a light bar on his roof) wanted to make a left turn and I ended up blocking him, not on purpose mind you. Any way he gets around an inch off my door and starts screaming for me to "get the F#$% out of the way". I rolled my eyes at him and went back to waiting on the light. Next thing I know I hear squealing tires and this guy is coming at my truck yelling he's going to kill me because I didn't let him in and I was obstructing a firefighter and what not. I was scared to say the least, he was much bigger then me. But I reached into my jacket to pull out my cell phone and call the cops, well he assumed I was pulling out a gun and backed off. Not wanting to burn that I kept my hand in my jacket till he left.

I also got a parking ticket today. It said that I failed to pay the meter for my spot and I even have a receipt that proves I paid. What's ironic is my receipt says I paid at 10:52am, and the ticket was written at 10:55am. I could have literally turned around and seen the cop writing the ticket. It pisses me off that they actually pay people to drive around writing these things, as if a person is creating some imposition on society if he forgets to pay his parking meter. BS

Shouldn't you be able to fight that ticket then?

Yea I am. Its just the point that I shouldnt have to.
Well, show the ticket and receipt to the judge and somehow work the words "filing a false report" into your comments.

And I've shared this story before but it fits. I was turning left into a shopping center from a light. Once in the center the right lane then has to turn left into the Lowe's parking lot. There's even a "right lane must turn" sign. I was in the left lane. Well a Dodge Ram (You're right, Joey) was next to me in the right lane. It was a classy one with a "Eatin' Chevy's 🤬 Ford's" decal on the back window. Anyway, when we get to the point where the right lane ends he jerks over without warning, forcing me to slam on my brakes to avoid getting my nose clipped. I give him the finger without ever taking my hand off the wheel. It was more for my own anger release than for him to see. Well, he does see it and slams on his brakes and then leans out the window and starts yelling at me to come and make something of it. I just swerve around him, into the turning lane, and cruise on up. He follows me for a bit, until I get into the Wal*Mart parking lot. Apparently he thought the same thing I did, security cameras.

Then my wife had a friend whose sister actually went into a full blwon road rage and started bumping someone until they were off in the emergency lane, with her kid in the car. Apparently she had just finished going through a messy divorce and a million other high-stress related excuses her lawyer is cooking up to get a temporary insanity plea. The woman's daughter is now too scared to even do a supervised visit with her mother.

This wasn’t road rage, but just a moron driver.

A few nights ago I was driving along this two lane road (four lanes, but two each way), 70kph speed limit. I was sitting on about 73kph, and I come up to this Supra with a bodykit that was just sitting behind another car at about 65kph. There were no other cars on the road, so I figure he’s just happy sitting behind this guy.

We go around a roundabout and I pass the Supra on the inside through this roundabout, and I’m just behind and to the right of the car he was following.

Then on the exit of the roundabout he decides to punch it, and zip through a gap that wasn’t big enough for his car. I had to use the brakes to give him room, and then he accelerates up to like 100kph or so and just disappears.

Sure, speed, I don’t care. It’re your license, your car. But don’t **** with me by driving like a moron.

If you rent a car, don't do that (bash the horn) in the UK. You'd probably get arrested.

I don't think I can rent a car in the UK, don't you have to be 25 to drive there?

No, you can get your standard provisional at 17 or in certain cases 16. I've been driving for 5 years and I'm 24.

Gotcha, I think I'm just going to use public transportation though, I don't know if I could get used to driving on the other side of the road.

File that report! If this guy is still out there, this will happen again. If enough reports get filed against him, they'll haul him in for mandatory driver's school and/or suspension. Don't let him get away with it.

As Duke said make sure you file it. There is no reason not to. After all, he could have caused a major accident.

I've been in road rage situations many a time. I've never caused any of them, which is odd, because I am a fan of sporty driving and competent driving and I do get frustrated easily.

Sometimes I just let it go, but other times I fight back. There's been quite a few matches that I've "won". I drive with friends often and we team up and the original offender usually just gives up and stops being an ass. Teamwork FTW.

Road-rage driver offers blame at sentencing
Convicted killer points to media, prosecutors, jury

By Ivan Moreno, Rocky Mountain News
April 17, 2007
CENTENNIAL - Jason Reynolds' voice trembled, but his words seemed to convey more self-pity than remorse.
The 34-year-old said the crash that killed two men whose families sat in the courtroom Monday wasn't his fault, and he put the blame for his conviction on "media whores," prosecutors and what he said was a misled jury.

Reynolds' comments drew a quick rebuke from Arapahoe County District Judge Carlos Samour, who handed two life sentences to the first person in Colorado's history to be convicted of first-degree murder for deaths resulting from road rage.

"Mr. Reynolds, you might as well have been standing in the middle of the highway with a gun pointed at people," Samour told Reynolds. "You used your car as a weapon, and you played Russian roulette."

Reynolds tailgated Kelvin Norman then cut in front of Norman's Toyota 4Runner and slammed on the brakes, setting in motion the carnage on E-470 east of Parker Road on Nov. 8, 2005.

Norman, a popular 50-year-old soccer coach, swerved to avoid Reynolds' Jeep Wrangler and lost control of his vehicle, which rolled across the median and landed on top of a car driven by Greg Boss, a 35-year-old Postal Service special agent.

The crash killed both men instantly.

"To the Boss and Norman family, I would like to express how sorry I am that you lost a loved one," Reynolds said at the beginning of his courtroom statement.

Reynolds said he was slandered by the media and that prosecutors "brought in everything but the facts of this case." He also said some jurors shouldn't have served because they acknowledged hearing about the case before they were selected for his January trial.

Samour said he would not allow Reynolds to criticize the jury, adding that the defendant had no one to blame but himself.

"You were not convicted because of the media," Samour told Reynolds.

"You were convicted because of your senseless act."

Reynolds had a long history of problems while behind the wheel, including four reckless driving incidents in 2005.

"On Nov. 8, Jason Reynolds did not make an unintended mistake," Mary LaFrance, Boss' girlfriend, said before Reynolds was sentenced. "And like many times before, he used his vehicle to threaten a driver."

Be very careful out there. This story shows how crazy some people are and also if you are the ONE, it just might land you in jail for the rest of your life.

Somebody tried that very move on me, getting in front and slamming on the brakes. I'm not sure that folks realize it's basically assault with a deadly weapon and makes them violent criminals.

If you intentionally try to harm someone with your car, you should be locked up for a long long time.

There is now precedence here in Colorado to do that very thing!

About a year ago on my way home from school, there was a guy driving very erratically in front of me on a back road. He was doing about 20 in a 40 zone and swerving all over the road. I didn't want to be behind him, so I passed him on the next straight stretch of road, and on my way past him, I gave him the finger in the heat of the moment, suspecting that he was drunk. This really pissed him off, and he immediately went from doing 20 to going about 60 and trying to overtake me. I wasn't going to get into an accident because of this guy, so I just slowed down and let him back past me. Now I knew what was coming next, he turned sideways at the end of the road so I couldn't get past him and came to my car. The minute he got near my window I could tell that he had indeed been drinking. Anyway, he started cussing me out, and tried to smack me in the face (He wasn't any bigger than me, just some of the typical white trash you find in western Pa). Anyway, I managed to grab his arm and stop him and told him that I was calling the police. After some more cussing, he went to his car and drove off. I called the cops right after and reported what happened along with his plates and the way he was going. Anyway, he got arrested pretty soon after for DUI.

Now I knew what was coming next, he turned sideways at the end of the road so I couldn't get past him and came to my car.
I keep a "whomping stick" in my car for these occasions. It's an old leg from an end table that fits perfectly between the base of the driver's seat and the door trim. I haven't had to use it yet.

My dad keeps a foot-and-a-half long rubber pipe. The weighs about 5 pounds. It's duct taped on one end to make a handle. Of course he hasn't used it yet, but I accidentally took out my mailbox trying it out one time. Effortless. It'd put a person on the ground with one hit.

I always keep my tire iron under my seat, so if worse comes to worse, I'm covered.

I once got a summons in the mail to appear in court about an unpaid parking ticket. It so happened that I had proof that neither the vehicle nor I were in that city on that particular day. So I went to court and explained to the judge, who promptly dismissed the case. He then directed me to pay court costs to the court clerk, which happened to exactly equal the amount of the ticket.

Nah. I'd like to because the more I think about it the more I realize that he was really trying to put me into that wall, and I dont like the fact that he goes on living with the content that he got away with something.

I'm not going to file it because it's just going to be more trouble than what it's worth. I have so much on my plate right now that I dont need to add something else. If it was as simple as filing the report and that would be the end I would do it. But I know it's going to be more than that. If he gets caught he's im going to have to testify or whatever else goes on. I'd rather just rough him up, and if I could remember his licence plate I just might.

A five D-battery Maglite (a.k.a. HeadCracker2000) is "lights on" for me, and "lights out" for interlopers.
I've never had to use the dull end of the flashlight, it's mostly in case I'm in a dark spot at night.

But otherwise, I'm mostly un-bothered by stupid drivers. Driving in South Florida, with foreigners who don't realize it's mph, not km/h, old farts with wayward turn signals and too much medication, teenagers with no skills and illegal medication, rednecks with no brains and alcoholic medication, and too many phone-toting SUVs drivers on Zyprexa means the battleground is just part of routine driving. You just take a deep breath and move on.

Maglites are awesome, I have one in my truck as well but I mostly use it as a flashlight.

Well, I understand having too much on your plate. I want to just pass this on to who wants to read this. A few members here will remember this thread. I think this might change your mind. This was a case of road rage and the tragedies that can occur with it.

I have one...

This happened to me with in the first month of me driving. I was pulling into a "roundabout" after yielding but I apparently pulled out to fast and made someone hit their breaks:crazy:, whoops! Well I pulled onto the NJ Parkway and went on my way. Well this person sped up next to me and turned on all the inside lights on in the car (it was night time) proceeded to give me the "majic" finger and tell me to do something to myself. Well me and my dad laughed at her and I waved and she sped off into the night. It was fun.

I'm sorry to hear about some of the stories in here, especially FoolKiller's wife's friend's sister's roommate's. Seriously though, that is really sad, especially for her daughter.

I've had my share of road rages. Sometimes, when I was younger, I was on a giving end, too, but not like bullying someone. It was more like, back & forth.

Also back then, I used to drive at much higher speed than the posted speed. But there would always be somebody who wanted to go faster, or didn't like something I did. There was a very dangerous game I used to play with those guys(and gals). I'd slow down to 5 - 10mph slower than the posted speed. The tailgater would try to pass from the next lane, then I speed up, and I repeated that. I've had people chase me across town, one guy actually try to wipe me out, and that was the last time I played that game. I would have called the cops on that guy, but that ONE DAY, I forgot my cell phone at home(isn't that just how it goes!).

These days, 90% of the time, I'm like Pupik. I just shake my head, get over it. Just last week, I was doing 45 on a 35, some J.A. was tailgating me, I actually pulled over and stopped my car by the curb. And if I ever make an eye contact with the crazies, I just do that crazy in the head gesture at them:
crazy.gif

It seems to uhh...... upset them, more than just flipping them off. :D

This seems wrong to me on so many levels. "Oops, we made a mistake. Now go pay us for having to come in here and prove it." Court costs in Kentucky are about $110 while 20 mph over is a $40ish fine. I think I would raise ten kinds of hell with the judge. I'd probably get contempt of court before I was finished but I would refuse to pay a cost that I shouldn't have ever had to pay in the first place. Then I would make a scene in the local news and annoy every politician I could.

This just irks me, because you have no recourse, no BBB to go to, nothing. The government says pay and you either do or go to jail, even if they are wrong.

In my college days I was known to use the interior light to illuminate my message more than few times. I just did it as I passed them and never yelled anything or even made eye contact, but my sign language was usually very clear.

Now I only do that when I cruise past my brother, as a joke. He usually does something back and our wives just shake their heads.
