Road & Track - Supra will return in 2005

Well Toyota has finally made it official, the Supra is coming back. Pick up a copy of Road @ Track they have all the info along with the new Lexus V-10 Sports Car. According the article, due to increased demand and need for spiffing up the brand image in the US, toyota needs a sports car, it will be officially returning.

It also speaks of a new rx-7

250 hp supposedly for the n/a model and 300 for the turbo one.
 
In the US? Or just in Japan?

That RX7 looks like ****, but that Miata is definite improvement over previous Miatas. It looks very nice.

I might have a word to say about that. :D does it have a rotary yet???
 
I was just commenting about the aesthetics.

Why would they put in a less powerful engine that in previous generations? Even if it isn't a rotary, it must be an improvement of some kind.
 
it may share the renesis platform. but the miata will never compete with the RX7/8 its in a class of its own. hopefully they dont screw it up with the new models. right now its pretty much perfect car for tuning and autocross. small displacement engine with a low compression ratio. it can take up to 25psi on stock internals.
 
This is pretty cool, just a while ago I was thinking how all the Japanese sports cars except the Evolution and the Impreza have died, hopefully they'll be releasing a new Skyline GTR too.
 
A new skyline GTR would be nice,but I would be happy if Nissan came back out with the 300ZX,the 240SX,or the 200SX.BTW why did Nissan stop making all its sports cars anyway?..............Those Supras look ok

Most Japanese car coporations (Nissan Motor Co. Toyota Motor Co. Honda Motor Co. Mitsubishi Motor Co. etc.) they were all afraid that some cars would not sell here. Now they are testing the market, like Mitsubishi is only making a certain amount of EVO VIIIs and once they all sell out, they will start to make more, because most of the companies can't afford another financial blow.

Another reason they stopped bringing sports cars, like to continue the 240sx line (Nissan Silvia S15) is because of emissions. The skyline family line never came here until the G35 (Skyline GT-8 Luxury version) is because of high emission standards in which the car can't meet without extensive costs and the worries of it not selling here. Plus some cars, such as the Skyline cost a lot of money (80,000-100,000 USD), thus they are not volume sellers.

Cars you see today are used to test the market. Subaru Impreza WRX STi, Lancer Evolution VIII, Fairlady 350z (the revival of the 300zx), all these are to test a "picky American market". They are now finding out that four door pocket rockets sell, and imports are in. Finially we see this new line comming in to grab the market, thus Scion from Toyota.
