so a good friend of mine has been looking for a sporty car for some time and I've been his prime consultant since he's not a "car guy" per se . First he wanted some sort of classic (Karmann Ghia, Triumph GT6, MGB, the like) but even with his short commute the maintenance on such a car would get old after while so we moved on to modern sporty cars like the Mazda3, E46 3 series, RSX and such, but none of them really fit his style. I was very adamant and pushy about the E46 but even after a long hard look he still thought all of the modern cars save for a handful were TOO practical (I know weird). The final entries were the Mercedes R170 SLK and the 350Z coupe. Well last week he found a 2003 SLK 32 AMG in San Diego and guess who's going with him to pick it up!!

first night we stay in Vegas
second night in Denver (I'm looking at you Doug)
third night in Kansas City
fourth night in Indianapolis
then home to MD from there

Nothing is in stone yet for the route back so please suggest anything you think we MUST SEE or if you are on our route maybe we can meet up if it doesn't matter to him (his trip and his money :))

third night in Kansas City

Oh really now? :D

Youre coming from the west... Either see me in Lawrence or meet in KC. (Lawrence is ~30 miles west of the "435 loop")

Things to see in KC.. hmm. Maybe take a look at the Country Club Plaza, knowing full well that Edward Bueller Delk and JC Nichols had the best intentions when they made the first shopping center/district. Then.. things got way outta hand. the Jazz Museum at eighteenth and vine is pretty cool too.

BARBECUE. Kansas city does BBQ far better than anybody in the continental US. Maybe I'm biased.

You gotta eat at one of these:
Arthur Bryant's
Fiorella's Jack Stack
Gates

And remember kids, only suburbanite communists in Overland Park eat at KC Masterpiece.

Sounds like fun dude ... i can't picture the distance in my head as i am from London.. Hope you have a good trip anyways

I think Doug's in Atlanta.

that is what I feared, hopefully he will see the thread and give me some pointers for while I'm in Denver.

VA10: the trip will probably be just over 3000 miles which would be like driving from the south from the south of England to the northern tip of Scotland and back back 6 or 7 times.

High Test: THAT'S RIGHT YOU'RE IN KC!! well we should be rolling through either Monday or Tuesday so hopefully we can meet for lunch at one of the places you suggested 👍

EDIT: Jazz museum is definitely what we were thinking

last night my friend came over and we looked over a couple different routes with the most to see and experience but still being direct and here's what we came up with.

start in San Diego
go by hoover dam on the way to Las Vegas where we will be staying
Las Vegas to Grand Canyon national park then from there to grand junction where we would be staying
Drive through Denver (with a good stop in the city to relax) then on to Kansas city for the night (I think)
Head to Dayton Ohio to check out the air force museum and stay for the night
home to MD

meh i could do that in a day :P

When exactly is said trip starting? I don't believe you mentioned that.

In ATL except Thanksgiving & late Dec/early Jan

What kinda stuff do you want to do? Denver has everything except playoff baseball. The nightclub scene is out of control awesome and completely non-thug. There are many fantastic restaurants. The foothills are just to the west & from Buffalo Bill's grave on Lookout Mtn you have an awesome panoramic view of the city and the great plains. And given your M-B obsession, do note that M-B of Westminster is one of the largest dealers in the USA. I can think of 10 million things to do in the vicinity of Denver including some great driving roads nearby... let me know if you want to relax and do dinner or hit the tourist sights!

those sound good to me, I wish we were staying in Denver but since we decided to go to grand canyon national park that made the trip to Denver too long so we will only be staying for a couple hours. We're going for scenic stuff mainly so let me know what your favorite thing to see is!

well everything is finalized and we are leaving at around 5am this Saturday. Unfortunately it looks like High Test is the only one along the route that we're taking that I'll be able to hang out with, if anyone has suggestions for other stuff we should see the please chime in!!

Yes. I have a suggestion. I'm now de-carred, but stop my my place for some lunchtasticness.

Ok I know I promised High Test I would post the pics up right away but I've been incredibly busy since I returned, suffice to say for now that the car didn't miss a beat and the trip was awesome!!

pics to come soon :)

ok I PROMISE I will get the pics up this weekend, I just started a new position at work and not only did it completely reverse my schedule but they only have dial up... (work is where I spend most of my time on here)

in the mean time here are three that I really like
