Anyway - First trailer.
Anyway - First trailer.
The joke is that it looks more like a Judge Dredd film than a Robocop one.
I think you mean Iron Man.

Also, a car bomb is the lamest possible idea they could have had to replace the Murphy-execution scene.
Its an interesting example of how trailers have changed these days - the old trailer showed glimpses of how Murphy ends up as Robocop but doesn't spell it out or make it particularly obvious. The old trailer basically just makes it clear that its a science-fiction based action film with a terminator-tone. It's a taster of what the film is and lets people work out if its something they might be interested in...without giving away the entire film (particularly the comedy/satire elements).
Whereas the new trailer literally spells out Robocop's character, how he ended up as Robocop and even shows a fair bit of his relationship with his family. They also don't show if there is any comedy/satire..but I'm not sure whether this is indicative of whether there will or won't be any. Like many trailers these days, this one just shows far too much of the plot and characters. In my opinion, a trailer should only give us a taste, an idea of whether we want to see the film. It shouldn't be a summary of the entire film.
Things that were shown in the new trailer that shouldn't have been:
-Murphy-almost death scene
-Murphy's confusion/surprise at working out he's a machine
-Murphy's struggle with his family
-ED-209
-Explanation that OCP have control over him (only suggested at in the 80s trailer)
-Revealing Murphy overrides OCP's control over him
I understand why they cut trailers like this these days, they're trying to appeal to wider audiences by giving a bit more character - the old trailer is very simple - Robocop, explosions, bad guys. The new trailer is more complex, referring to the human vs. machine element, the emotional side, etc.
I just feel that they can still show or suggest these things without having to spell it all out in a trailer. Maybe everyone just doesn't pay huge attention to trailers anymore.![]()
It's real challenge to shoot a remake. Total Recall was a real blast even without planet mars and Arnold in it, so i strongly believe that Robo-Cop will up to a challenge.
I think one thing that needs to be taken into account is that the remake is covering familiar ground by very nature of being a remake, so the trailer being shot more like the original would be a moot point since people would already be expecting to see most of those plot points anyway. Not that "well, we might as well not bother hiding things" is a particularly hopeful attitude, but I can at least see where they were coming from when putting it together. It also means that they can defy expectations better, since if they put real thought into making a worthwhile movie they can subvert where people think the things in the trailer will happen if nothing else.
I have nothing to add except the word "melting".Part of what made the first Robocop such an awesome and memorable movie was the insane gratuitous violence. De-limbing Alex Murphy was just the start of a childhood scar I still rub every time I think of a man soaked in toxic waste being hit by a car and exploding into a mash of rotten flesh.
I didn't turn Total Recall off, though I did stop paying attention to it.Probably the second worst possible example in recent memory.

I thought the Total Recall remake was terrible, poorly scripted, poorly paced and had no charm of the original.ussrIt's real challenge to shoot a remake. Total Recall was a real blast even without planet mars and Arnold in it, so i strongly believe that Robo-Cop will up to a challenge.
