Wasn't real keen on this game but always kept my eye on it and I must say after seeing this latest video I am sold. Same thing happened to me with RDR, and looks like it is based off the same GTA/RDR engine, I expected it to be very linear in a way like Heavy Rain as most detective games have been but it looks much more open so that sold me.

I see that its not a linear story but more like a individual mission based game, I suppose that has its benefits but I like a one big overall story which is leading somewhere, who knows it might also have a story arc...

As for the setting, some will find that era exciting (like red dead) but I prefer games either set in the present day or the 80's. Without the latest tech and modern methods it feels lacking in the cool crime solving stuff will see today (like in Heavy Rain, CSI etc).

I wonder which platform that in game footage was coming from, it looked like something from a PC but I suspect it might be the PS3 as that was the lead development console for much of its creation. Its looking more and more polished but I still think its about the same graphically as Red Dead but with a bit better facial animation.

I hope GTAV (dev'd by R* North) will take the facial animation from this but do a modern game, that would excite me more. My heart is set on Miami, present day. LA Noire has taken so damn long to come out its almost lost its interest.

I think it looks great, and the facial animations are the best I've ever seen in a video game. I wasn't really interested in this game, but after seeing that last video I'm definitely in.

But why would you buy a game just to watch facial animations?
It's no fun. I think they got too stuck in their idea of this, a game it does not make.

That's not what I was saying. Yes, the facial animations are great, but the game looks cool. It's at least a rental.

Ooooh boy I'm sooo getting this game! I really like the idea and the facial animations look great. I've been waiting a while for a new game, becaus Black Ops is no fun anymore, GT5 can't keep me busy, and all the others games can't keep me busy too, so I hope this will. But, in 25/26hours you finished this game so I hope they make some downloadable missions for this game..

L.A. Noire

I searched and there was no thread about this game, so I'll maybe start a thread for some discussion. For the hell of it, I'll probably stick in some awesome trailers. Enjoy! If you don't know what L.A. Noire is, here's the Rockstar official website:

Official Trailer:

Technology Behind Performance:

LA Noire Gameplay Series -- Investigation and Interrogation

LA Noire Gameplay Series -- Rising Through The Ranks

There's several more, but these were the nicest trailers I saw.

Thanks!

That's fine. Say this thread introduces anew.

EDIT: Videos are now working! Enjoy!

No, that's not how it works at all. You do a search and post in an existing thread if there is one to be found. You don't go creating a thread to draw attention to another thread. That's usually a good way to get a warning or an infraction for a spam or useless post.

I am very curious about this game. Anyone that has it, please post your play time - I'm wondering if I could scoop this up as a rental and knock it out in a weekend.

Wow, this looks really cool as far as gameplay goes. My wife loves L.A. Confidential and other period films. I think she'd actually play this one.

Thanks, elitedriver123 for putting up all the video's, I seriously can not wait for this game. 👍

Anyone play this yet? I was thinking about renting the game but it just doesnt seem to interrest me much.

Thought about getting this game yesterday but didn't. I heard it's a cool game to play but apparently the replay value isn't that good. On the 360 forums I've seen several people say it's a one and done game. I'll probably rent it.

I didn't think I'd be that interested in the game either, but I took the chance and bought it and I am really enjoying it. The game is less about action and more about finding clues and little things that will eventually make a big difference. There are many ways you can alter the outcome of a case, or how you conduct an interview based on the evidence you have found and the people you have talked to. The game might not have a ton of replay value as it is mostly story driven, but it is a damn fine game ad has the best facial animations I've ever seen in a game.

I'd suggest you at least rent it, because the trailers RockStar released certainly did not do the game justice.

How big is the map and what sort of free roam does it have? We don't get it until Friday here in the UK.

Saw the official advert on TV today, the graphics look bad on tv, really low frames per second, it would be terrible if you had to play it such poor quality, it was jerky almost. Like watching a cut scene on a PC with an outdated graphics card. How could it get past quality control?

Just picked the game up today, haven't played it yet though but I will soon. :D

Guys just a heads up, be-careful if your playing LA Noire on a fat PS3 because Rockstar has said today that they might overheat when playing this game. Its something to do with the game both being very graphics intensive and also firmware 3.61 makes the system for some reason run hotter anyway I really hope Sony addresses this.

Rockstar
“We have received some reports of PS3s overheating while playing L.A. Noire or beeping three times before shutting down/turning themselves off, mostly on older 60GB and 80GB fat models.”

“Primary reports seem to be that updating to firmware 3.61 will cause PlayStations to overheat. There have been various reports of this on a few different games now, all reporting their PS3s turning off or ‘Red Lighting’ after having installed 3.61.”

“This can range from games randomly freezing to PS3s turning off anywhere between 30 mins use to two hours. We have confirmed locally that multiple games (Rockstar and non-Rockstar) overheat or freeze only when 3.61 is installed.”

“At this time we are recommending contacting Sony directly to report the overheating issue. However, this is not the end of our support; we are continuing to test L.A. Noire on all firmware versions and hardware models to isolate the issues and see what can be done. As always, we will update this article as soon as we have updates.”

Rockstar quickly removed the post from their website, probably after Sony had a go at them but there are still people having issues.

I am playing on a fat 80GB...
Still looking forward to playing this though, I should receive it tomorrow. I just hope this issue can be fixed.

I've been playing this since I picked it up on launch day and so far I love it. Don't go in thinking this is GTA in old L.A., though. The tempo of the game is slower paced - it's more of a thinking-man's (or woman's) game, drenched in film-noire atmosphere. The closest you're going to come comparing it with anything else is somewhere along the lines of a cross between Heavy Rain and Grand Theft Auto. Take Heavy Rain's atmosphere/pace/detective work, remove the crazy control system, and add Rockstar's usual glorious open sandbox gameplay and simple/easy controls, et voila. So far, it's been the perfect palate cleanser after a heated session of online racing.
I wipe the sweat from my brow after attempting a few clean races around the Ring with drivers who seem to think GT5 is a bumper-car game, switch to L.A. Noire, and crack open the latest homicide case to try and nab that pesky serial killer!
Like a good mystery/crime/detective novel, though, this is a mature game for the more intellectually minded - not for kids who just want to blow things up.

Actually i think younger children would love a game like this, but obviously moderated, imagine if this was a Doctor Who world..dark things going on needing investigation, but no bad language or adult gore.

Picked it up today and played about two hours so far. I'm playing on PS3 with the latest firmware and it's been fine, no extra fan noise or bugs. Some graphical glitches and I don't like the way the game nurses you.

I smashed my car up and did some questioning of a suspect in their home, when I came back out the car was in gleaming repair not a scratch or dent, this throws you out of the game world quickly, I also dislike when you arrive close to an area by car or foot and the game takes over, it may make the game move quickly but I would rather be able to pull up to a house myself and get out the car ect. without the game jumping straight to it even though I'm hundreds of feet from the building.

The graphics are polished apart from some flickering textures and pop up, but everything is nice, especially the facial animation/mo-cap. I can see if the cases get bigger and more indepth this could turn into a cracking game, so far I would give it this rating:

7/10

Pros:
* nice animation especially the close detail in the faces
* controls are easy to pick up
* excellent soundtrack and voice over work
* nice pace to the game

Negatives:
* flickering textures and pop up
* damage to cars disappears after entering a building
* game jump to triggered scenes too quickly making the game feel disjointed

Yet to be seen:
* beginning missions are over too quickly but looks like they could get longer ( hopefully )
* there seems to allot to unlock but it doesn't give any indication to how long or difficult the game will be
* the story is a bit broken to begin with and I hope this will be cleared up and no loose ends left.

It seems very short. After finding 36 of the 95 vehicles, one newspaper and about four hidden location, I was at 17%, despite only having done the four training missions and about three hours of driving about.

This I would say is probably my biggest gripe, a long with the game seems a little more linear with less "freedom" (freedom to carry out the case how you want) than I expected but otherwise I am enjoying it quite a lot.
