Been pleased with the game so far. Although with how quickly i've managed to get through the story line cases, I'm feeling the game is kind of on the short side. This might be completed in a rental's time? This is not a GTA clone in fact it really doesn't feel like a Rockstar game. (which is both good and bad) The cases are not entirely action packed but they have kept my interest, I've always been a fan of whodunit's so I'm happy.

The controls have been made almost too simple, to the point it's actually tripped me up a few times while trying to get up a fire escape or just trying to drive really. But once I learned Phelps can scale a wall or fire escape with no extra button pushing it became an eye opener.. why can't more games be this simple to operate?

Only complaint I have is the "chime" that plays when you stand near a clue. I've picked up more cigarette packs then actual clues. :grumpy:

And for the overheating problem I'm running a modded fat 500gb with no problems... yet. :nervous: But the game will freeze up if I select the playstation store from the game menu. I'm hoping that will stop once Sony brings the "store" back online.

I turned that off in the options before I even started any cases.

I was really enjoying this game, up until the Silk Stocking case:

I couldn't get inside the market. I have tried everything, apart from restarting the case - which I want to avoid if possible. However, as I believe the glitch was caused by turning the PS3 off at a particular point, unfortunately this seems it might be the only way to fix it.
I have seen other people have had the same problem, and I was just interested to know if anybody else has had the same thing happen to them, and if so, if you have found a fix (other than restarting the case)?
That aside, I think the game is excellent. I really enjoy the interrogations and deciding who to charge with the murder.

Enjoying the start of the game so far, though driving feels pretty strange... and the game started to stutter after a couple of missions... turned it off since then :|

I don't think it's a glitch, just timing. If you go straight across the road from the bar, its closed, because the only dude that seems to work there is out doing deliveries. In fact you may even bump into him doing a delivery behind the bar. Go back to the station and come back to the fruit market later and its all open. A similar type of thing also happens when you're looking for a guy in the hobo camp. If your partner says something like 'Lets come back later' then that seems to be a good idea.

On the plus side, really enjoying the game. Excellent production values and characterisation. Its easy enough to get enough right to solve each case (so far) but getting everything right in a case adds some challenge. Like others, I feel the game may end up being a bit short, but hey, as they say, always leave them wanting more.

roxc is right, you need to interrogate a suspect before going to the fruit market.

I'm liking this game so far, haven't had any freezing problems or anything so far. Its different, but different is what I needed. I really hate the second partner they give you though, he's really annoying, so annoying that this is what I thought I should do to him.

One thing I didn't like about Homicide

All the cases are too similar, all just dead women related to the "Black Dahlia", by the fourth dead women I thought.. Ugghh, then the fifth.. god.... A little variety would have been nice. I am enjoying the change of pace in Vice for the moment though.

I absolutely suck at gauging reactions it seems. One set of questions I got all three wrong!

It's a shame that Phelps' attitude doesn't change to reflect sloppiness such as this and he starts coming to work with his shirt slightly unbuttoned, tie around his head and a stinking hangover.

Ordered yesterday.
Can't wait.

Are the freezing issues solved already??

I never had any freezing issues, I have had a few loading problems with the scenery, but nothing game breaking at all. And yes I have the game installed on my HD.

Just finished it tonight.

Only disappointment was the awful car handling, I was hoping it was going to be like GTA IV, but it's more like Saint's Row or GTA:SA. Ruined any enjoyment of exploring by car/driving.

Other than that I loved it, was a nice bonus aswell with the liscenced cars. Not much is cooler than a Tucker 48.

With pretty much all of the premier Rockstar studios credited in the manual, you'd think they would have used North to do the physics. The cars feel heavy and then suddenly go light towards the end of the lock, so they slew all over the place with no real weight to them. Takes all the fun out of it.

roxc is right, you need to interrogate a suspect before going to the fruit market.

I had done that. I restarted the case and everything exactly the same and it was fine.

I have LA Noire and like it a lot. I think interrogating suspects is the best part of the game. The driving controls are terrible so most of the time I have the partner drive and I go get a beer or something lol. I at the arson desk but I liked doing the vice cases the most so far. Can't wait to see the ending of the game!

I wish I could get this game... The only reason I can't is that it's too inappropriate for my little brother so I can't get it. :(

So is this game worth a buy in the long run? Is its size comparable to a GTA game or is the map much smaller/larger? Does it take up much space on the hard drive? Can you free roam in between missions? Do you always have a partner or can you fly solo at times?

The map is 8 square miles and GTAIV's is about 6 sqm.

You can free-roam, but you start out with your partner each time, so you can either have him with you at all times or run to another car and drive off without him.

The game doesn't seem to autosave if you find locations or new vehicles, however, so you'll need to save the game by completing the mission if you want to keep your side progress. The only trouble with that is, you'll incur any vehicular damage in your case file, affecting your final score.

You can't save manually as you like?

Not from what I've seen. After you complete a case the next case starts right up, not giving the player a break in between like in GTA games. However the game will do mini saves from check points during a current case so that you can start at the latest point if you happen to die or fail. But if you turn off the game and come back you will restart from the beginning of the case you were playing when you quit.

I just played this for the first time today and so far I'm quite impressed.

It's not without it's fair share of flaws though, most of which don't bother me much, but I was surprised that in the options menu I didn't see any option for viewing what each button on the controller does... which is odd because not only do most games offer that option, but RockStar included that option for both Red Dead Redemption and GTA4.

Also, is there any way to go back and do a "case" over again without starting the whole game over?

After one case it said I missed one of the clues and two of the questions. I wanted to try again, but the only option I could find was to restart the game.

Considering past RockStar games not only allowed you to go back and redo missions any time you like, but they also allowed multiple game saves to select from the load game menu.

I'm hoping I'm simply overlooking something, or that the ability to go back and redo cases get's "unlocked" and that I just haven't gotten that far into the game?

You have to go on to 'Cases' from the main menu.

The game autosaves pretty much anytime you do anything of consequence. You can quit to the main menu mid-case and resume from where you left off, or at least where the game saved. You can't, however, replay a case within your main story save. Once a case is finished, it's unlocked under Cases in the main menu like Duffers said.

Does anyone else just suck at questioning people? I probably have an awful success rate, and unless I'm proving someone wrong with a piece of evidence I'm never sure if I'm choosing the right answer. Am I dumb?

^ Is your avatar a pill watching his waving hands ??

So i got the game yesterday, thanks to the postal services beeing late (non working pigs).

I only could play it for 1-2 hours.
I am still on the first case as detective.

The game is great. Sure it has it flaws at certain points, but the facial animation is really good. I lolled hard when I saw Alan from 2 and a half men, same crappy shirt :D.
As always this game would destroy everything if it would be released on PC, like every R* game, which rarely work flawlessly on PC's due to bad porting.

Can't wait to continue gaming.
tomorrow holiday. Hurray

You're not the only one! It took me until about halfway through the Homicide desk to figure out how to really "play" the interrogations. It really is about reviewing your evidence and knowing what ammunition you have at your disposal in your notebook.
A tip from another player helped me: start an interview but then immediately exit out of it without asking any questions and the game should autosave. You can then have a go at the interview but if it goes badly, exit out to the main menu before the interview is over and you will be able to resume from the beginning of the interview instead of restarting the entire case.

I thought that was Alan!

To anyone replaying it, or those who haven't got there yet, keep an eye out for the woman on-screen in the bus station, as I'm sure it was a cameo...

I thought that was Alan!

I don't know Alan (Wake?), but I think you must be right. It doesn't work quite like what I described above as it turns out but if you do anything wrong in a case, don't restart the whole shebang. Quit to the main menu and resume from there. You'll start back at the last auto-save spot, usually the beginning of a crime scene or change of location depending on where you're at.
I'd recommend not doing this, though, if you're playing the case for the first time. Kind of ruins the fun.
