In case anyone has not heard here is a link to the latest news regarding the case.

Apparently Wal-Mart (who sold the game), Rockstar (who produced the game), and Sony (who marketed the game), are also named in the suit. How come the gun and bullet manufacturers were not named in the suit.

Its a good thing the boys had only played GTA:III, just imagine the damage they would have caused had they snuck on an army base and stolen an Apache helicopter.

I'll be eternally sick at all these cases of kids involved in shootings because they played a game they never should have had in their hands in the first place!
Even so, anybody of the appropriate age can purchase the game and have a little brother or whoever of a minor age and they can get ahold of the game, but that's not the maker's or the marketer's problem now is it?

Exactly. 👍

THe other day in my US History class, the teacher was taling about this. He asked how many people in the class have Grand Theft Auto and about 4 people raised their hand (I go to a very small private, Christian school). He then asked us what we thought and I said that the makers of the game have 0% responsibility for things like this. Their job is to make and distribute the game. It's the parents descision weather or not to let their child play the game or not. It is also the child's (or person) descision to go shoot people and then go and blame it on the video game maker so he doesn't go to jail. When are people going to learn? Games don't create killers, the killers create themselves.

I don't think that's fair to people who play these video games for just plain fun. If you can't tell the difference/consequences between a video game and real life then you are a complete dumbass! Just because 3 kids think that the game can be played out in real life doesn't mean that this is what all kids think. To summarize my point I don't think you should take it out on the vidoe games, they were just made for some harmless fun, how other people use them in stupid ways is their problem. Sorry for the language also but it just gets on my nerves.

My teacher asked my class awhile ago who had played this game, i raised my hand very high and stated that i had killed over 250 000 people and smiled very big. But of course everyone already knew about and me and Vice city so everyone had a good laugh.

 I should have said that I always go on a Hunter Rampage and kill everyone at the base!

From the article - "We want to tell the videogame industry that if they're going to continue to market adult-rated games to children with these horrific consequences, then we're going to take their blood money," Thompson said in a statement.

When have they ever market(ed) adult-rated games to children? I think it is a missgiving that parents assume that all video games are OK for children - that video games are a child past time. WRONG!! I don't even play GT3 while my nephiew is around. I don't want to give him the idea that driving cars at exceedingly high rates of speed is ok until he understands the difference between public roads and race tracks.

It would make me so happy if Wal-Mart and Sony counter sued for this lawsuite blemishing their name. And sued the parents of these children for allowing them access to violent games and SIDE ARMS for crying out loud. Passing blame is about the most pathetic thing I've ever witnessed in an adult. And unfortunately it's become the American way.

Exactly 👍

this is the stupidest thing i've heard in a long time.i've been playing the gta series since it game out and i've never climbed to the top of a building with a god damn sniper rifle.the gta games didnt make those kids kill, if they cant tell the difference between reality and games they already had problems to start with.

I think the rating depends on what country you live in-- I've never heard of R18. I believe in the US it is rated M (for mature)-- I think that means you are supposed to be either 16 or 17.

I'm old enough not to have to worry about such things so I'm probably wrong about the ages and the rating.

You are right. An "M" rated game is intended for 17+ individuals.

Hell, if stupid **** like this keeps happening, R* may not be able to make another GTA game. maybe they should rate the next GTA game AO (Adults Only) to give the stupid parents out there the idea that they should not buy this game for their 2-year-old babys. Its not R*'s fault, its their stupid parents' fault.

I think this is crap. It's as bad as RIAA suing people for downloading music.

When someone is driving under the influence and kills someone in an accident, do they sue Budweiser?

They'd sue Budweiser if a kid would kill someone under the influence. That's how narrow-minded people are these days, believe you me.

man this is way stupid
ya know the reason i got this game was because of the real city and stuff ya know geting in and out of cars and stoping a stop lights sand stuff
i also like driver 1 and 2 and im going to try to get driver 3 when it comes out
thats also the reason i got the getaway as well because of the cars the other stuff you can do ing the game i think of as a bonus

and its not the makers of the game that should be blamed for the parents stupidity

and what where the kids doing with guns in the first place

im mean im not exactly 17+ but im not going to go out and kill someone just because i can do it on a game

crazy!!!

Now if Wal-Mart sold the game to the kid directly (which I highly doubt), then I can understand them being sued. But if the parents bought the game for the kid then it's their fault.

That's the reason they put the ratings on the game, we might as well drop all ratings if parents aren't going to take responsibility.

Parents should not keep guns in their houses. These things only seem to happen in the US, as they can just pick up firearms from their house. Guns shouldn't be legal.

Guns shouldn't be legal? Haha.

I absolutely hate everyone who blames the actions of a bunch of poorly raised children on a ****ing videogame. It's absoutely sickening to think that Rockstar is going to lose this lawsuit.

I ****ing hate stupid people. Remove the ratings and let anyone play the game. Let it be up to the parents what their kids play and do not play. If four year old Tommy wants to buy a videogame let him. If his mother doesn't want him playing it, she won't let him.

It's pure idiocy. Pure idiocy.

So if you outlaw guns-- only criminals will have guns-- thats what we want.

A parent should be responsible enough to secure the weapon where it can't be gotten to by the kids-- if they can' t do that then they should not own guns!!

It sounds like they used a hunting rifle anyway-- so should hunting be outlawed too???

That has to be the dumbest thing I've read in a long time.

I'd like to buy oosacker a clue Alex.
