Rollercoaster Tycoon 3

However, I've got a question regarding the Career mode:

In the Box Office map, I need the VIP (Cami O) to ride one of my coasters, however, she never rides them, she always rides Studio Tour and then leaves...This is the only mission left before I hit tycoon level so I can move on to a next map 👍

Both the coasters I have on this map, I build myself; a giga coaster with a super-drop, and an inverted coaster for some looping fun, the rest of the park is filled with Junior and Thrill rides 👍

Any ideas?
You have two ways to do this. First is when you get the message at the top that says they will be there you will see one or two little icons on the right. One will look like little footprints. Click it. Or when the Vip arrives click on them and the icon is somewhere in their menu. This icon will allow you to schedule what rides, and in what order, the VIP will ride. I found it slightly annoying that you couldn't actually build what they want and then they just do that while they are there. But when you can schedule them you can run them wherever you want. I think you can do that with your custom families too. I know some people cheat the system by having tons of custom families to raise attendance and then scheduling them to do overpriced rides over and over. To me it would just be easier to use a money cheat code.

Thats what I was afraid of :indiff: You spend tons of time working on themes and all you get to show for it is something in the eights. I was hoping with all that work that you should get at least into the nines with excitement. I find it realitively easy to get a coaster in the mid sevens without any themeing at all. I guess you just need to theme them out of personal pride on what you can create.
Well, excitement ratings are a finicky thing. I don't think that I have ever built one that was above Very High.

Part of the issue with Excitement Ratings is that they are partly affected by the peeps in the park. If they are looking for an medium or low intensity then it will lower the excitement of a big coaster. No amount of theming can fix that. I had one water raft ride that I went to town on with the dinosaur theming, including going past a tall bush to find a raptor or T-Rex roaring at you. It was low intensity and low nausea, but the theming won me an award and the excitement was through the roof.

Looking at Night Terror, it has such a high intensity and nausea rating that it should be an excitement of about 7.5 (close to Heart Attack). But because of the way I had to build it to be "indoor" the AI sees it as having a ton of underground elements, which boosts me almost an entire point.

Heart Attack and Grand Flight have very little theming. Grand Flight just has a glass arched station and Heart Attack has a laser show in the middle. The theming in Grand Flight is minimal compared to what the coaster is. And the AI doesn't even acknowledge the laser as part of Heart Attack, but when it is on peeps on the nearby pathways will stop and watch it. It actually affects my overall park rating and not the coaster itself.

So, yes, most of the theming is for personal enjoyment more than anything. In the career mode I will put a lot more focus on ride design than theming. If I do any theming it is just because it calls for it. Honestly, when career mode wants you to have a coaster of a certain rating you are better served seeing if you can afford a pre-designed one that meets those specifications.

In Sandbox Mode you don't have time or money constraints so you can spend however long you want playing around. My paths are actually three squares wide with gardens in the middle and all kinds of stuff. I am actually working on themed sections of the park.

My overall plan is to have a water park section and a zoo area. I'm also wanting to design a waterfall coming in from one side that will go into a pond and out through a stream cutting across the board and winding into the animal enclosures. I will put canoes or something like that in the pond section.

Sweet! You just downloaded those, right?
I downloaded the theme, which comes with walls and signs and whatnot, then I built the buildings myself around custom stalls. After I built them though I saved the building as a custom structure, so now anytime I build a park I can just bring up custom structures (looks like a wooden framed building) and place it.

I have also done a few sky coasters myself. 👍 Have you done a slingshot type that shoots you up yet? also a 👍
I haven't had a chance to do a slingshot one. They look like fun, but when I see them I just haven't had the chance to try it.

I have the game now and i can happily say i passed the first mission
(after ingame 4 years, but hey, i had enough people after 3 years, i wasn't asking enough money :))

Is it me or is the career mode far too easy?

Vanilla Hill and Box Office actually took some time while I completed all the others on all levels in less then an hour...I'm nearly half-way, it seems a quite short career mode as well...

wow, ive got to start playing this again! pehaps we could do a little roller coaster competition! with the coaster camera, i have the game and the Soaked expnsion pack only

Nice to know this thread is back!

I don't think easy is the term. Honestly, past games had easily achievable goals, but they required you be at a certain level after 4 years. Now the goals of having certain things ready for a VIP allow you to really focus and do something quickly. When I see I have to have a certain coaster or have a VIP do something I build that immediately and then work the rest of the park to create popularity and profitability.

Plus, in past games when you didn't reach a certain goal you had to reload and rework it, here the VIP just comes back at a later date. That would be the only thing I truly consider easier.

You can custom design your own scenario if you like having to work towards a goal. I did that a few times and found my creativity for creating challenges was poor. I did however manage to find my creativity really grows when I am in Sandbox Mode.

Once you get used to the controls in RCT3 you will find it to be much more versatile than the first two as you don't have to be limited. You can do the career scenarios, make your own scenarios, even send challenges to friends, and you can just play, saving coasters, structures, and anything else you want for yourself or for sharing.

I thought I would grave dig this thread to announce to Rollercoaster Tycoon fans that we have some new things to play, if you are using a smart device running iOS or Android. Atari is bringing Rollercoaster Tycoon to mobile in Q1 of 2013.

Atari has reportedly confirmed plans to release RollerCoaster Tycoon for iOS and Android,*resurrecting*the iconic title for a new generation of mobile gamers. The game is one of a number of classics Atari has decided to re-fettle for smartphones, Slide To Play*reports, and will be joined by Atari Casino, Outlaw, and an update to Centipede: Origins.

“We’ve spent this year focused on developing mobile games based on some of Atari’s most iconic and enduring franchises,” CEO Jim Wilson said of the ported titles. “Our upcoming lineup should make clear Atari’s strategy to work with the strengths of our key franchises and offer our expanding global audience of mobile gamers a collection of accessible and fun consumer experiences.”

Exactly how RollerCoaster Tycoon will be modified for mobile play hasn’t been revealed, though since it’s not expected to arrive on Apple and Android devices until Q1 2013, Atari has plenty of time to decide. For those who managed to miss the game first time around, the 1999 classic puts the player in charge of a virtual theme park, giving them control over the rides as well as maintenance.

The original allowed for both pre-configured rides and user-created rides to be created and deployed, but it’s unclear whether that will follow on in the new mobile versions. Meanwhile, Outlaw will feature hand-drawn graphics and Western-themed gameplay, and will be a free download in November.

If you are on an iDevice, Frontier Developments, who made RCT3, have released Coaster Crazy. It is a coaster design game, not a park sim. It is freemium, but you can earn premium currency by participating in daily challenges in the sandbox mode.
