When GT4 released some tracks had rolling starts and grid starts, when GT5 got released it was grid starts then an update came it was rolling starts for all tracks, in GT6 rolling starts aswell apart from go kart races and the x2014 junior championship, with grid starts i actually think the races are more fun to be honest. Im not saying rolling starts are bad but it makes the race less fun since the cars are so far apart from each other, personally i hope GT6 put grid starts back i think it makes the races more fun but what do you guys think stick to rolling starts or bring grid starts back?

Feel free to post your comments :)

I particularly think that it doesn't really matter.

With rolling starts you have to chase the "rabbit"...
With grid starts, you'll have to chase the "rabbit"...

I remember back in the days of GT1, you had the option to qualify... If you didn't, you started at the back of the grid.
I think I used that option once

Dbl file rolling starts are much better this time around. Id like qualifying with grid starts. But, the GT3 Dbl file rolling starts are good enough for now.

Rolling starts would be fine if there wasn't a half mile between the cars, something like 2-3 car lengths would be better. But they claim when all the AI cars pile into the first corner it causes frame-rare drops, so their solution is to have spread out rolling starts.

Would you prefer a grid of "standards" that let the game have a clustered first corner melee? If The Game had some proper damage coded into a tight packed grid start (None of this 1x1 staggered stuff... I want the old 3x4 grids of the 60's)

Why damage? To prevent Crashard Banger from block passing his way up the inside or "Rubbin' is racin'!" with brutal impact passes.

It is all compromise... do you want every individual finger nail, on every monkey, on every tree modelled. Or do you accept a few little blurred edges to let the frame rate stay nice and high (And constant!)

I can't see why photo mode can't be a bolted on bit that just uses the positions of the freeze frame cars for the shot... and adds in processor hungry quadrillion polygon cars with layers of transparent tones and perfect shadows and side wall flexing.

I raged a little when in one of the champoinship races it showed the cars in staggered formation on the info screen just before the race but the race got a rolling start.

All racing games have the awful flaw that you can overtake most of the field in the first corner.
GT wants to give at least a challenge but rolling starts are dumb all the time. They should've given an setting option to choose the type of start you wish to have.

Le Mans as awkward as it sounds, doesn't have the option for rolling start 2x2, which I think is just daft.... How could you not include that, OR, the original... Jump into the car, fire it up and hit the gas..?
HELLS. YES.

It's a pipe dream, but it'd be a nifty feature, if they featured Le Mans races limited to older cars, that had the literal "running start." :)

The karts and the new X challenge series are all standing starts. I remember somewhere, PD made offline races rolling starts, because when all the cars piled into the first corner, the frames were dropping like bass from an EDM song.

It's all a bit pathetic really , hopefully PD will use some of the PS4's grunt to improve the AI instead of focusing all their attention on car modelling and physics as usual.

If anyone from PD is reading this PLEASE sack the solitary AI dude who has been coming into the office for an hour every wednesday afternoon to eat the cookies for the past 15 years.

Ditto for your sound 'specialists', new talent is desperately needed imo.

Before the update to GT5 which removed grid starts, the AI cars were so slow off the line, I was normally in the lead by the first corner!

It would be nice to have the option of grid starts, but only if the AI are improved.

Agreed! I can't understand why PD can't make the AI cars faster. That would seem simpler than improved AI, and then we could have some proper racing without handicapping our cars. Of course improved AI would be good too, but to me that would be to do with on track behaviour of cars relative to each other and you.

How hard can it be to make the AI cars break later and travel faster through the corner??!

And...yeah grid starts with qualifying would be better. Like someone else said above, the addition of qualifying would make the career mode more involved.

Rolling starts is one thing, Rolling starts where the 1st car (which is also the fastest car in the field) is 15 seconds ahead is something else. It's mind numbingly boring now.

I'd like rolling starts this close...

And why we don't have them at Le Mans is crazy first of all...

Honestly, either one could be made to work. Of course, the AI needs to be more aggressive/skilled first.
Grid starts are preferable (the racing in the Red Bull Jr. races with their standing starts is better than anything else in the game - and if the AI was a little more aggressive, I think we'd be on to something!) but if we could have rolling starts that aren't 25 seconds apart, that would be fun too. I kind of like the rabbit chasing, but it loses its appeal when the rabbit forgets which one is the loud pedal with a lap and a half to go...
