Even as a recreation, it's still impressive.

PS - Don't think Fittipaldi was one of the guys that took Lauda out of the car though (although he took care of him when his body was already lying on the floor), but that's not very important.

It was Brett Lunger, Arturo Merzario, and Harald Ertl that helped him out. Lauda hadn't qualified nor was running well on the opening lap, so that's why a couple of backmarkers were in that mix. Most of the F1 fanbase hasn't a clue who they are, but they were heroes that day.

I recall that Lunger was a US Marine; also, Lauda's helmet came off in the accident, although I think a pole support from the catch-fencing helped pry it off in his awful accident.

Pretty sure Guy Edwards was the fourth chap.

Hope this gets released in theaters over here, or otherwise I'll have to wait for the DVD release.

Thanks, I had a feeling I forgot someone! Guy Edwards was also heroic in aiding Lauda.

So sorry to get off topic onto formula one, considering this thread is about a formula one movie. except we were discussing niki lauda, who is actually part of this movie so no, we were not off topic at all, but thanks for chiming in and adding absolutely nothing of value to this thread. and you are kidding yourself if you think Bernie Ecclestone -OWNER of the complete rights to all that is formula one doesnt have any say in the direction his own sport is heading? jean todt is a figure head that does what Bernie tells him to do. back on topic, love ron howard, cant stand niki lauda, even if he was a great driver

Bernie Ecclestone's family trust owns ~25% of The Formula One Group, 70% is owned by CVC Capital Partners.

"Formula One Group" strictly refers to Formula One Management, Formula One Administration and Formula One Licensing BV.

FISA (Formally FIA) are the governing body of F1. Basically they are the government of F1, and Bernie is the Queen.

Who runs England? Might help you make sense of it all.

Wikipedia helps when you think you know everything.

Anyway, back in topic, sorry I couldn't let that go unsaid.

Looking forward to this, sounds great already 👍

Yeah!

It wasn't fantastic by any means but it wasn't awful in my opinion either, then again...I'm very easy to please.

Well I had to go back to my original post to see what you were replying to there. :sly:

As for the guy playing James Hunt, I have to admit I'm completely disappointed. The guy is far too stocky and the hair is completely wrong. I can't say I've heard of him before, so I've no idea if he'll be able to pull it off. But he'll have to be very convincing. I personally can't believe he even made it past the screen test.

Didn't realise that it was said over two months ago. Anyway I just wanted to point it out. No harm done. 👍

I noticed Chris Hemsworth is going to be acting as James Hunt. Is it too much if I say he's "putting the hammer down" when Hunt is mashing the accelerator?

Would it be too much if I called him "James Huntsman" too?

Rush has a release date: September 20, 2013.

There are a few images here, and this is a real 1970s-style poster that I found on Wikipedia:

Yes, next year. It's not a major release, so the studios can afford to pick and choose the best time to release it. Look at THE CABIN IN THE WOODS - it was made in 2009, but it wasn't released until this year. The studios are probably holding back on RUSH because it's a bit of a niche film and they don't want it competing with major releases like THE AVENGERS, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and SKYFALL.

I may be stupid, but I am a Motorsports and Ferrari fan and I can't notice what's wrong. Only things I can think of is that the Coffee Machine is too modern for 1976, or there's a car on the picture from after that year. Or if the camera is reflected on the coffee machine.

^ There's a couple of anachronisms in that Ferrari poster: I see a few illustrations of cars dating up to 1985...

Oops. To be fair, you'd need a keen eye to notice it.

It's hardly a film-breaking flaw, but for some reason, Hun200kmh seems intent on proving that minor technical and historical inaccuracies will tear RUSH apart at the seams. Never mind that a) we haven't seen so much as a frame of footage from the film, and that b) casual film-goers probably aren't going to notice (or care).

It's the same attitude that saw people demanding that Codemasters make F1 2012 into a dedicated, hardcore racing simulator, somehow having come to the conclusion that casual gamers would flock to it in their droves if the dedicated fanbase gave the game its begrudging seal of approval. Never mind that such a game would be nearly impossible to play for most people - some Formula 1 fans seem to think that the only acceptable product is one that rigorously and religiously adheres to the finest technical and historical details of the sport.

Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe did exactly that with ROBIN HOOD. They were so focussed on making it an accurate period piece and a gritty origin story for the character that it became a thoroughly joyless experience, and an absolute chore to watch. I, for one, don't want to see RUSH do that. So if there are a few innaccuracies here and there, and moments when the writers and directors and producers took a little creative licence in places, that's okay with me.

I just don't understand this obsession with hyper-realism coming before anything else, and often at the expence of both the audience and the final product.

I think most experts and fans are willing forgo a few inaccuracies for the sake of a good movie, but I suppose my limit would be mention of a "supercharged motor" and "250 mph cars", but as stated, not a shred of dialogue has been released.

For example, a real-life commercial airline pilot gave his thoughts on "Flight"...he's more cynical (although not a jerk about it) but kind of enjoyed it. http://blogs.airspacemag.com/view/ After all, this somewhat described a real-life tragedy (although with 33% of the problems, but with 100% more carnage).

He mentioned elsewhere that the only time he's ever been completely turned off by airplane-fiction was when a "Runway 40" was mentioned in a seperate novel...

It seems a sample of Rush (more than a trailer) was shown yesterday at the Autosport Awards. Is anyone able to confirm, and give more specifics on what was shown and what was the audience's reaction?
