So... red to red. Black to black. And the others just splice them up and see what happens? That seems a little... i dont know.. not right? I mean.. I need to do this right or not do it at all. I dont' want to F anything up.

Dude. If you want to do it right take it to Logitech for repair, where they will tell you to buy a new one.

If you want to get your hands dirty, then just splice it and don't worry about the colour of the wires. This isn't mains voltage and no one is going to get hurt. Match the colours of wire that match, and just choose a different colour for the one's that don't match. Insulate. Test. Then lots of gaff tape. Gaff tape is your friend.

Seriously, once you've done it and it works, no other piece of equipment in your house will give you as much enjoyment as your ugly gaff tape covered DFGT cable.

Hey I just had a thought. What about just splicing together the two ends of the original cable to make a shorter cable, and then buying a USB extension cable?

You get to feel confident its all joined up as it should be, and the next time the dog chews up the cable you just buy another extension lead. And poison the dogs food with something untraceable.

This is exactly what I told you before(facepalm). Just take an usb extension cable, strip the cable, strip the small wires of their rubber, connect the wires that are the same color, solder the cables together or use electrical tape if you can't afford a solder gun. Then wrap the copper wires around, and then secure the cable with a strong tape so the job does not come undone. If the data wires are in a different color then you will just have to trial and error to have them match up right.

I guess that's what we will do then. The response I got from Logitech was that they could offer me half off a new one through their store which is nice, but I don't want to spend $75 when I can splice it myself. Thanks for the input. Probably will hit up Radio Shack tonight.

Or just poison the USB cable?

Careful I'm a tree hugging PETA member :odd:

I did exactly what nick09 mentioned when I stupidly tripped over my DF Pro cable and ripped it apart, it was a pain but it did work.

Yeah soldering wires together is the hard part of soldering. Soldering on a small board is ultra easy.

Do you need to be completely void of any sense of humor before joining PETA, or is there a process whereby it can be like surgically removed after membership is accepted but is before its completed?

Back to business... Am I being an idiot assuming that the lead has been cut somewhere, and there is both a good connection to the wheel and a good USB plug? Because it would be a little trickier if the plug was dead.

Well, I went to Radio Shack last night to get a USB cable. All they had in stock cost a MINIMUM of $20. Screw that. I went to the small computer repair place next door and their cheapest was $11. I told him what I was doing and asked if he had any spare crap laying around in the back. He came back and sold me some funky USB cable that was spliced into something else at some point and gave it to me for a buck. I went home, spent about an hour of splicing and booyah! Wheel works perfectly. With no soldering.

Good to hear that you are enjoying the wheel again.

@GT3inch, It does not matter since the usb plug is just wires soldered onto a small pcb board with four connectors on it.

Thats awesome that you got that thing fixed . I remember when my dog was a pup he got to my Xbox controllers . He only did it one time . You should buy that dog some chew toys . I got my dog them heavy duty kong toys when he was a pup and he has never chewed anything but the toys and food . Five dollar chew toy goes a long way .
