And the best rootbeer is made by stewart's hands down IMO. They also make an Orange and Cream Softdrink (soda) that is my absolute favorite drink anywhere... :D

pepsi? maybe the new stuff is better. coke goes down easier.

dr pepper/mr pibb? opinions?

Dr. Pepper is my favorite soft drink as long as I drink it sparingly... I go a month on Coke and then I'll have Dr. Pepper for a day or two and it's like heaven! Root Beer works pretty much the same way as Dr. Pepper for me. Probably couldn't drink it continuously... just too addicted to Coke I guess.

Main Entry: sas·sa·fras
Pronunciation: 'sa-s&-"fras
Function: noun
Etymology: Spanish sasafrás
Date: 1577
1 : an eastern No. American tree (Sassafras albidum) of the laurel family having both ovate and lobed aromatic leaves
2 : the carcinogenic dried root bark of the sassafras used formerly as a diaphoretic or flavoring agent

I have a few on my property, and so did my parents as I was a kid. When you pull off a leaf you can smell that the sap smells like (and taste like) root beer. In about 7th grade I did a program called "Summer Ecology" (got me out of my parents hair) and we learned that root beer was flavored at one time with this tree. Then they learned to do it artificially. (Which is good now that I see the word "Carcinogenic"

Here's something to add to your Sassafrass knowledge:

One, if they were so inclined to and could find it, could extract safrol from sassafrass root oil and use it in the synthesis of 'ecstacy' ;)
