Good riddance Cape Ring, Rome Reverse, and the all-season concrete tires on that stock 370z...

Round 1 is over. Congratulations to everyone on this forum who made it to Round 2. 👍

There's been a lot of talk about Round 2 - Now that we don't have any competing for the next 7 days, post your predictions/wishes for the next round here.

- Tracks?
- Cars/tuning/tires?
- How well do you think you will do (optional...)

EDIT - a couple notes to preemptively clear up some questions
- Round 2 is 1 week in duration, from Monday, January 31 at 9AM EST to Sunday, February 6 at 11:59 PM EST
- Round 2 will contain 2 car/track combinations

Im kinda hoping for the Nordschleif with something tuned. I would be really quite happy to not have to deal with plastic tires anymore but I somehow think they will stick that in again.

Tracks: Madrid and a real circuit
Cars: GT-R and maybe the 370Z again?

My goal: honestly I have no goal at the moment. :P I've made second round, which is as far as I thought I would go, but I didn't see myself advancing to round 2 while being in the top 10. Looking at my current position I would say I could probably make round 3, but am not counting on it. If round 2 is my last, I'll be more than satisfied. 👍

I hope not, if they put us on the ring I guarantee the top guys will find ways to cut the track without a redlap and we would have cape ring all over again.

Lets get a track with walls, no cutting!!!! NO MORE GRASS!

Honestly, I don't care what track they throw in. I didn't know any of the 3 tracks before it started and was quick out of the gate. I am just psyched and can't wait for next week.

Well Tokyo could be a decent one, it has some of the weird camber angles in portions... what about CĂ´te dÂ’Azur as well, this one would be epic, but prob a little bit short to weed out the times... they will put in a short track and long track combo.

Are they gonna upgrade from comfort tires tho, I would think they will keep the annoying tires as is, or maybe have us race with full rains if they are feeling a need to be mean haha.

You and me both man. im glad its time to move on to another course. If I could pick three to race on it would be the green hell , eiger , suzuka

Same 3 cars on similar tracks 👎 But that is my prediction....PAIN. I Was forced to drive unethically today just to make it to round 2, I feel so dirty :indiff: Not blaming the drivers, it's PD's job to make sure the laps are clean, we are playing withing their confines. I hope Round 2 DOESN'T inlcude either of the 'Rings'.

I'm predicting we will see the same names at the front as well as an additional 5-10 (just a guess) guys overall who were sandbagging in round 1. I just hope a lot of those guys aren't in the West region. :P

As for the car, I'm guessing the GTR academy version from here on out. And for tracks, I'm hoping for some "world circuits," except for the nordschleife.

My guess is that with a much shorter 2nd round, the tracks will be ones that are more familiar to everyone and the cars will be the ones we've already used for Round 1. I'll say Laguna Seca with the Skyline road car and Grand Valley Speedway with the Z Academy Car.

I can't imagine PD throwing the 'Ring out there although running a sector or two of it is certainly possible.

Only two races in round two. My guess?

Grand Valley, GT academy 370 or Godzilla on Sports medium at best. Bitchy high speed course that makes you shift between aero downforce and slow speed cornering much like Cape Ring... thankfully well sorted out for cut zones etc since its been around a while.

Madrid seems to be a good possibility for the second one... picky tight corners leading to long straights. Blow a corner blow a lap just like Rome or Tskuba. Skyline or 370 on ice skates.

Since round two is only a week, I think there will be only two tracks and one of them will be Suzuka. Nordschleif will be in round three.

Congrats to everyone who made it to round two!

You lucky Americans with your GT Academy. And here's us Europeans thinking we'll be doing some time trials with the SLS AMG for the Signature Edition competition :grumpy:

Nurburgring, please, preferably type V. :)
I suspect a stock GT-R and a tuned version on similar tires like round one, although a race car on hard race tires would be a nice change.

Ideally we would have to run a full lap to begin a hotlap, tire wear included, around Nurburgring. And we should only get like an hour or two.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're working on the 2011 GT-R model for the next update to use in this competition :D ( let alone at Silverstone  )

If they want to show off the games features they might incorporate tire wear at some point.

I suspect Suzuka will be in the mix during around 2. If they do use the Nurburgring and it is not the full course then i would think that they would use the GP circuit.

I am surprised no one has mentioned any wet sessions yet.

Ooh ooh! A VW Bus with comfort hard tires on Nordschleif in the rain. You have to run a lap in under 25 minutes to qualify.

Yeah!

Yeah!

And at night!
Seriously though I expect we'll see Madrid and something like Deep Forest or Trial mountain.
The only premium nissans we havent driven are the Sylvia, the Micra, and the GTR.
Doubt they'll force us into a micra (although with such a slow car, precision would be key) so I think we'll see a stock gtr on comfort softs and the GT Academy GTR on sports mediums.
That way for round 3 they could give us both of the GT academy tuned cars and everyone would be familiar with them.

I agree Steve, it doesn't matter what 2 tracks to run, lets have at it!

Lots of good stuff.

I don't think we'll see any new content (like a new car that's not in the game). The tuned 370z was on the official list of cars when it was released.

I think hope I'll make it to round 3, but probably won't finish 2nd overall again. I'm a slower learner than the likes of Fix, 3wide, Choate, Zissou... and we all know Hunk is competing FTW 👍 ...and then there's other guys (e.g. z06fun) who could certainly put up a good round.:nervous:

My take on tracks -
2 of 3 round 1 courses were new for GT5. If you take out Indy (already used in 2010), that leaves 5 more courses new for GT5:
- Top Gear Test Track
- Monza
- Madrid
- Nurburgring GP
- Special Stage Route 7

My guess is that Monza, Madrid, and Nur GP are in for sure. Top Gear is tough because it's almost impossible to tell what is course cutting versus a good line in a wide open airfield (but who knows - Cape Ring was terrible)...and Special Stage Route 7 is stupid.

I really don't think we'll see Nordschleife as a time trial course. Since rounds 2 and 3 both have two time trials, if you throw in a 7 minute lap as one of the courses than the other becomes overshadowed to the point of being irrelevant. For example, if you are running a 1:56 lap at Monza (or even 2:20 in the rain), and a 6:50 lap at Nurburgring...why would you put in more than 3 laps at Monza? You might as well just have a 1 track time trial.

I love the idea of a wet track, especially since the GT-R is a rain monster. Also, if the winner of GT Academy is going to run 24h Dubai, might as well throw in some night-time racing.

So...my round 2 prediction is Madrid and Monza. Nur GP/F and Top Gear Test Track? for round 3.

For cars, I'm not quite sure yet, but I'm actually thinking now that they might run the GT Academy GT-R for round 3...maybe run it twice along with the stock 370z again. Another post on that later...

EDIT - it should be noted that Nurburgring GP is actually one of the courses on the GT4 European Cup schedule (race series '08 and '10 winners compete in). A good candidate to end the final round.

I just hope they stick to real-world tracks... which is doubtful. Not to mention it would be sweet if they threw the Comfort Soft tires out the window and put us on racing tires, or at least sports;those comfort tires have to be driven completely different than the sports tires, my best lap I drifted through half of the last corner around Rome and pulled away from the ghost.

I'm hoping for Nordschlief, NurburgGP, Suzuka or Laguna.

I'm thinking we might see Madrid also and unfortunately for me, I HATE that track.

It would be awesome if PD decided to unviel a new course that no one has seen yet, but if that were to happen I dont think it would be until the final rounds. For all we know they could have Silverstone waiting to be unleashed :dopey:

I would also love to see an updated throwback track re-introduced to the mix, it's very doubtful but there are a whole lot of tracks missing from the game so you never know. Would be cool to see a return of one of some of the more technical tracks like SS Rt 11, Complex String, George V Paris, Hong Kong, NY, Infineon, etc but to actually think that would be a little far fetched.

Thinking rationally, I think we will most likely see at least 3 or 4 of the following situations:

- one track we are familair with and one we are not (the longer one maybe being the unfamiliar?)
- one track longer than the other, but like Blindside mentioned about Nordschliefe, probably won't be that much longer
- one real-life track and one of the "original" GT tracks
- one city course and one normal road course
- one lower speed track and one higher speed track

I think Blindside's prediction of Madrid and Monza makes a lot of sense if they decide to throw 2 new tracks at us.

I also wouldnt rule out Circuit de la Sarthe as it seems like the time it takes to round the track (longer than Cape but not Nordschliefe long) is exactly what they would want.

Also, Nurb 24H still could be a possibility as early as Round 2 if they have the second track be one that takes ~3 minutes to do a lap.

In retrospect I can now see some of the concepts they might've had in mind for this 1st round.

Seems like the theme in the first round was for us to learn to tame oversteer in a relatively heavier car.
That lesson started with Tsukuba.
Then next they put us in an even heavier Skyline that tasked us with wrestling a beast through the tight streets of Rome.

So basically GT Academy was saying this:
First take a car [370Z] you should be familiar with around a track you should know well by now.
Got that? Ok now do a fast lap with the same brisk pace in a bulkier car you don't know as well on a brand new track.

Good, got that? You're a pro now right? Well here's your racing machine.
I wanna see you do just as well around maybe... Cape-Ring-full

kthx gl bai.

I'm just laying out what I think's the plain lesson we were all faced with "learning". Same idea of evolving skill as the basic challenges thrown at the GT Academy Europeans in 2010.

It'll be some other sort of dynamic... but I don't know what. They have something awesome in mind I'm sure.

Maybe they'll want to see how we can handle supercars? Or at least mild ones.
Possibly a Ford GT, Audi R8, MP4-12C or one of the Ferraris.

Come to think of it... I just got a strong feeling that we'll probably be running the SLS. It's on the damn cover of the game xD.

As far as tracks go I agree with Madrid particularly because it was so spotlighted. The curveball that could be thrown at us might just be, like some people here mentioned, a completely brand new track in an update.
They did do that in GT5P right?

So... if that's something they have in mind, it would be wide open! An old GT track's probably more likely but you never know, we could get something wholly new. Please be Spa please be Spa.

TL;DR
So to combine some of my deep thoughts with the more logical ones spread through out this thread I'll post my conclusive two part prediction for the next round. Just to put a stake in it, why not?

Mercedes SLS AMG '10 on Madrid.

GT Academy Nissan GTR on... NĂĽrburgring GP/F.

How would you guys like that?
