I think this needs to be split into 2 separate threads - I will start a new one for the 1971 Factory Race car driven by Roy Pierpoint which is what the first picture in this thread shows. This thread can then be for the Rover P6 3500 Mark 2 1970-1977. The Series 1 was introduced in 1968 and was only available with a Borg Warner three speed automatic. The Mark 2 was introduced in 1970 and a 4 speed manual was offered on the 1971 S model - S stood for synchromesh (I always wrongly assumed it stood for Sport). These cars were popular with UK Police forces who used them as Motorway Patrol cars. The negative points about the car were the weight (26 cwt), the thirst - the need for 5 star leaded 101 octane fuel (later model had the compression ratio lowered to run on four star) and, in the final years of British Leyland, the appalling quality control on Rover cars - in August 1975 Drive magazine named the Rover P6 3500 as the worst British car after its example spent the first 114 of 165 days of ownership in garages being fixed - in 6,000 miles it got through 3 engines, 2 clutches and 2 clutch housings.
Like the Triumph Stag it was a great car whose reputation and ownership experience was sadly ruined by British Leylands terrible quality control - which was probably worse than non-existent as the company was plagued by communist trade union agitators like Red Robbo, whose ultimate ambition was to bring down the Government and almost daily (sometimes twice daily) walkouts and strikes!
In the game, however, there would be no quality control or fuel consumption problems and it would be a joy to cruise in this great classic car - especially if PD could capture the fabulous V8 rumble of the ex-Buick all aluminium V8 which powered this beauty!
