So how do you go about getting a replacement bespoke V12 from BMW then?

Simples. You get a 760Li, take the engine, modify and job done! Although its based on an 8-speed gearbox which will screw that plan up :(

I wonder how the Petrol Pump in that McLaren is. Probably not too good if the engine structure is screwed up :irked:

I'll bet the engine is fine (enough), just everything aft of it would be a bit of a mess. I've seen one of the F1 GTR's come back from worse...

And the fact that it's a different engine built on a unique smaller, lighter block.

There's nothing to say that the engine was damaged to any great extent anyway.

He probably was hooning it, which I suppose it's a proper way to wreck a car. Glad he is ok.

He could have been, but we've had quite a long dry spell here and yesterday we had the first rain for a while so it would have brought all the road crap and oils to the surface. Bear in mind that the F1 has no traction control or ABS.

The pic on the back of the lorry suggests hooning but don't jump to conclusions too quickly.

That's what you get for running all those Reliant Robins off the road... :)

Even having seen that image above I suspect it'll still get rebuilt. The F1 isn't the sort of car you write off.

Anyone ever seen racing at the Goodwood Revival, that Atkinson also competes in? Plenty of cars worth several million at that event, and often get crashed. Cars worth that sort of money have enough people in the world waiting to rebuild them at huge cost. Money becomes no object.

Glad to hear that Rowan Atkinson is OK and is to be discharged from hospital...

As for his poor car, well, he should have Bean more careful.

Well according to his recent interview with top gear, he had done over 37,000 miles in it, which is not a bad effort considering the value associated with the car.

Glad to know he only injured his shoulder and going to be released from the hospital at once... But it's the second time that he accidentally caused a car crash in the same car, which is so costly.

Great to hear he came out of it relatively un-scathed, he wouldn't be the same if he'd lost his eye brows.

And the car, well none of us have ever built a Mclaren F1, and I bet few have seen the internals, so lets just wait and see what the repair decision is, I'm sure Rowan will let everyone know the outcome.

I suppose that the fact he crashed it again really shows what he has been through with that car. I mean he's owned it for what? 15 years.. Let's just hope the thing can be fixed, because I would be gutted if I owned such an amazing car for so long, to find out it is not able to be repaired.

You know Mclaren F1's are worth 2 million quid today which is why most owners will have it locked in a garage or take it out very rarely. If your a true petrol head like Rowan you will use it everyday to go to the shops! I think its the lack of ABS which has come back to bite him on all these occasions.

I am sure any damage however severe is repairable by Mclaren, even if they have to rebuild half the car. Its only a matter of cost.

The fact that he's trashed the front and now the rear, its going to be an entirely new F1 when he gets it back:lol:

The way the car looks, it's really just a McLaren F.

Although I'm certainly glad he's pretty much okay.

All of these have to been sent back to McLaren and rebuilt I believe, I'm sure Rowan Atkinson's will also be sent back pretty soon.

Judging by the damage, he was obviously going too fast for the conditions. It looks like a two-lane road. What could be the maximum speed limit on one of those?

This car is having too many crashes on that chassis.

Does Mclaren actually replace the whole chassis? A cut and paste job doesn't sound too intuitive nor safe.

It's a monocoque, I'm sure the just replace the whole thing, and salvage as many good parts as they can.
