Some quotings from Swedish test!

"In every exit out of corners in second gear, the RS6 does what everyone is talking about, it just disapears. It just disapears"

"The RS6 disapears away from the M5 in the horizon acting criminally good for a 2,1 ton estate"

"The M5 engine is still the king, turbos can't match the adrenalin of 8250 rpm"

Cunclusion: "The M5 needs a better gearbox and AWD"

Not a very surprisingly article since the M5's gotten a bit old.

As for disappearing, not a surprise there either. A twin-turbo 570Hp V10 linked to an AWD better be disappearing next to a NA 500Hp V10.

AWD? Sacrilege! (but not a bad idea.)

Looks like the Motorsports division will have to work harder... Even as a fan of the M5, I have to agree with the viewpoints that came from the test results.

TT 570Hp V10 AWD > NA 500Hp V10
Pretty much sums it up. I can't really say BMW did a bad job though. Audi is always a step ahead of BMW and Merc in terms of power and drivetrain. Audi could only make 4WD turbo estate while BMW and Merc does make the M3 and the SL55/65 so much more better. Still, thats a lot of HP for an estate....

I'm going to say that Audi definitely has the edge in that they just released their product, while BMW and Mercedes have been holding giant targets in front of their faces for the last few years for Audi to aim for.

Give it a few years, the RS6 will have died down and BMW and Merc will release new models, and probably trounce the Audi due to them being able to drag an RS6 with them for every step of development.

You all talk about Hp but what about the torque of these cars?

Audi = 480 lb-ft (650Nm) between 1,500 rpm and 6250 rpm

BMW M5 = 383 lb-ft (520Nm) around 6,100 rpm

Again, Audi > BMW! That BM V10 needs to be revved to the atmosphere before it has any grunt? No thanks. What kind of torque does it have at 2000RPM?

With that torque the Audi can actually TOW something which makes it PRACTICAL as well as blazingly fast.

Fast practicality FTW!

Give me the Audi... No, give me TWO.

The second I will dismantle and shove the entire drivetrain underneath a Grand Marquis station wagon with some aluminum body panels. Sleeper, meet ultimate sleeper.

But seriously... The Audi just looks soo nice...

So, where was the E63 AMG Estate? Last I recall that was still the coolest wagon one could buy...

It was. But I present to you the above competitor from VAG.....

*yawn*

What?

Oh, you mean that thing. Meh. Even as a VW guy, I don't have to like Audis. So I won't.

Merc AMG FTW!

[Clarkson]Its better because it will kill you.[/Clarkson]

I'm a bigger fan of Mercs than Audis, yet I still think the RS6 is way cooler. This is the only instance of me picking an AMG rival over the AMG. It's just sooo cool.

Your testosterone level is low if you think for one second that the RS6 estate isn't cool. How can you not like Audis? You are just way too wierd sometimes.

I dunno, its really weird. I just don't like them that much anymore. I don't find them to be "moving" whatsoever, they just feel like overly-refined Volkswagens... Which in actuality, should be a good thing.

But they just keep giving me giant "mehs" all the time. I mean sure, the R8 is absolutely brilliant and I'd love to have one, but they otherwise make nothing else that I'd really want.

Plus, I mean, you really think an RS6 is that much better than a 530 BHP Mercedes with a properly good slushbox and right-wheel-drive? With the new airmatic suspension, *gasp* it even handles well too! And it has more room (as I recall) for the kids and the dog compared to the Audi and the BMW...

Thing is though: We all know that if Cadillac made a CTS-V Estate, that would be my instant pick. And we already know where I stand on the regular saloon side of the equation

Why yes, I think a 570 horse RS6 is that much better. Do we know anything about a DSG going into the Audi? That would make this car a hands-down winner. I'm going to assume you meant rear drive (right drive would be interesting... :ill:). There was a video up on youtube with this car swinging it's tail around on the 'Ring. It would be interesting to see the handling difference between the two.

Ah. Now it all makes sense :sly:. But the CTS-V isn't in the saloon side of the equation.... And price aside, you surely wouldn't pick the G8 GT.

The CTS-V will be there, but we have to move "there" to about "six months from now."

As for the G8 GT, well, its about 200 BHP short...

I'd take a C63 over a CTS-V any day.

Are we getting the HSV version or whatever? That's the only competitor to the RS6 and co. GM can really put out now.

No word from inside GM if we're getting a GTP (HSV Clubsport R8) or GXP (Likely the GTS-R) any time soon. Methinks the EPA has canceled those plans altogether...

That would be from Zero Punctuation... I forget which review...

And I believe he too would pick the E63 too. You have to use phrases like "Boingo Boingo Whoopsy Knickers" to make the RS6 seem more "exciting."

I need to have my head examined... Maybe its from all those drugs I've been taking because of my stones...
