I've searched the forums and didn't really find much in the way of information about how these cars compare to each other. Which has more grip? How does the overall handling compare between the two? Which do you like best and why?

Thanks. :D

If you are trying to get around the track faster, you're going to want the BTR. It takes massive concentration and skill to tame the Yellowbird, it is a wild animal at times. They're both awesome though :).

Show love for the yellowbird it moves if done right :sly:
How'd you change your name cam?

It's a GTPremium feature. No one used the "jhr" part anyway, and it looks tidy now. I'm not good enough to handle the 'Bird at Nurburg yet, I haven't tried it anywhere else.

For some perspective, my only experience with RUFs is the RGT, which is tons of fun IMO, though it did take some getting used to.

You can fit a better rear spoiler on the BTR, giving it more downforce.
Also the BTR can be tuned to more HP I think.

However if you leave the cars stock, only new oil and no extra turbo/weight reduction etc etc, the Yellowbird is better and faster.

I'd be doing neither. :)

(Probably just tuned up to around 550PP)

You can fit a spoiler on a BTR on the spoiler of the BTR. It looks odd :dunce:

Anyway, even though I haven't tried either, everyone says the Yellow Bird is basically on ice when in the corners, so...um, yeah. That.

The RGT is awesome! It's the only RUF I can push through the turns without losing the a$$-end....plus, just fun to drive... Sounds good too... I don't think I can comment on your question about btr vs yellowbird, I'm not effective at driving either. :)

If you are tuning for PP online racing, you'll be more consistent if you add a ton of weight to the front of either car. I race the BTR at 450 because i don't have to use as much power reduction (restrictor plate). I've added weight to the front and run pretty high camber. For the first few laps of a race, it is extremely competitive against other 80's cars...however after the tires start wearing down the car goes back to being tail happy.

Here's an old video of one of my 450pp races. I've got the car dialed in much better now, but this is closer to how it behaves naturally. Note the final turn i got overzealous on the throttle trying to cut inside and kicked the rear end out. It cost me the race, but was still a great battle. That 240rs is super quick in a straight line but the RUF has amazing turn-in on the hairpins.

Well, I'd love to find the BTR, just because I saw the AI spin out regularly in one of the seasonals:dopey:

The CTR can be really quick, it just takes a LOT of practice to drive properly. You need to minimize the drifts and the wheelspin, manage the throttle to stabilize the car on high-speed corners. I was able to bring my Nordschleife laptime down more than 15 seconds, to a 7:33.982 (No ABS used, to reflect the real unmodified car) ;)

Here is a golden tip:

Both BTR and Yellowbird are much, MUCH easier to drive with front tires 1 grade harder than the rear tires.
Soft in rear, medium in front. Or Medium in rear, hard up front.
Works like a charm and requires almost no tweaking the setup.

Seriously, before you go like: pah what a rediculous idea! .... try it :)

Lower grade tires might make it more manageable, but ballast will make you faster, especially with pp based racing.

Meh, last time I tried to drive a Yellowbird fast around the track I spun it. At least 17 times. But I was more of a n00b back then, Just found a second one in the UCD, I think I'll give it a shot again. My current one is a drift one, painted blue and dubbed "The Bluejay". Loads of fun swinging that around :). I've found two Yellowbirds but no normal BTR, :grumpy: so I can't tell you about the BTR unfortunately.

+1. The yellowbird is awesome in everyway but drivablilty. The only way I've managed to get it to handly reasonably well is to put TOO MUCH weight at the front.

The BTR has similar traits, but requires ALOT less weight at the front, and IMHO is a better thing to drive. Just doesnt look as good as the yellowbird.

chuyler1, thats a really awesome period correct colour for the BTR. I've gone through a few colours and found all the bright green and oranges to be too shiney. Willl try and track down the colour you chose!

I didn't choose the color, it came that way :sly: ...but yes, I noticed it fit appropriately and have refused to change it. I do need to find the right red color for a second one though.

F..Faster? Ballast should make you faster?
In this case, drive another car.

Yellowbird?
You can handle it or you die! That's it, it's a dream!

With pp based racing, yes ballast will make you faster, and more consistent. In the case of 450pp racing, adding ballast allows you to remove some power reduction. More weight, but more power...and better balance. Even with the added weight, the car still has amazing braking and turn-in.

The RUFs are far from the only cars in the game where this is the truth.
Duuude! I know what I'm talking about. I tuned one, I love it and it's my favorite car in the whole game!

Now that I finally have a BTR I can answer my own question! :dopey:

Basically the BTR is exactly what it looks like: a CTR with wider rear tires. This makes the car a ton more sane, though it's still tail-heavy and overpowered. I weight reduced mine then added some of it back as front ballast to hit 500PP and it's tons of fun to drive, whereas even with ballast and stock power the Yellowbird still wants to spin all over the place and kill you.
