Rule 3.9.1 Q's

Sorry blokes, i know this has probably been discussed before, but i've done a read and can't seem to find anything so far.

I'm just curious about this -


"3.9.1: Hot Laps and FTODs: Given the nature of Hot Lap scenarios, these laps shall be 100% clean. Any Offs or Wall Touches shall result in disqualification of the submitted time. Driver may submit an alternate lap as Hot Lap or FTOD provided it is 100% clean. Multiple Hot Lap scenarios shall fall under the same rules as a Race of similar length as described below."

I can understand that if you have a touch its an instant DQ. But it mentions that "Driver may submit an alternative lap as Hot Lap provided its 100% clean". So guys who get a DQ can send in another time and still do OK?

I thought it was meant as a spare, in case your fastest was dirty you can fall back on your second fastest. Or something.

Correct - if you save replays of previous attempts you can resubmit a slower clean run to replace the faster run that was ruled out.

Provided, of course, that the time stamp is before the deadline.

Cheers. So in essence you could send away two times/replays in the hope of one of them being ok. Just like the Seinfield episope 'double dipping'

Have to admit, I miss-read this one in the confusion. At first I thought it applied to multilap races, where if the fastest lap of the race had an infringment, the second fastest lap would be counted as the FTOD. I didn't realise it applied to hot laps. DOH!

I guess the only downside to this is, it might bog down the review commitee having to varify various runs from each individual driver.

We'll see if that becomes a problem. The replays have a time/date stamp in the file, correct? My point being that you don't need to submit multiple replays BY the deadline - you can submit your preferred replay, and if it gets bounced, you can submit a backup replay that can be verified was run before the deadline.
