comes in to a rolling argument*

okay, hold up

according to what I read, it's the actuall Skyline body, an R body, not the one we're getting for the Inf g35
it comes in under GT-R ONLY, there was no announcement wether or not they were gonna give it to nissan or infinity dealerships yet.

i believe I said earlier that Skyline is having it's big 5-0 when it finally gets hauled over here, even if it is only labeled r35...

Hang about... The Skyline ISN'T the GT-R, and the GT-R ISN'T a Skyline. They are two different models.

So is the US getting the GT-R, or is it getting the Skyline range?

We already have the skyline range, they are branded as infinity's and sold as g35's.

That's why I'm confused. Sniffs has twice said that it's the Skyline and then confusingly added GT-R to it, when the two are separate entities. I was already aware that you got the Skyline model, rebadged as Infiniti G35 and wasn't quite sure whether Sniffs meant that the GT-R was coming too, or whether a model range called "Skyline" was coming to replace the model range called Infiniti G35.

I believe the Nissan GT-R is slated for worldwide issue - including the USA - in late 2007.

I may or may not have read something to the effect of the GT-R coming to Australia in the not too distant. There are already loads of them that are imported privately by rice dealers however.

The blow off valves keep me awake at night down St Kilda Rd, they are damn noisy, more annoying (in terms of sleep depriving) than the Aussie V8 HSVs burbling away down the road.

Not that excited about even more GT-Rs and/or Skylines in Aus, GT4 was more than enough.

I've seen only one Viper, lots of Corvettes, and a few Ferraris.

IMO: The Viper is what it is. Although my expirience is limited to a few hours with a 1996 GTS, I do agree that the interior is extremely cramped and the transmission is a bit awkward. But overall, it was an absolute blast to drive down the Michigan backroads and the engine alone was worth the price of admission.

By comparison, I did have some time in an older 911 (an '87 Carrera S) and although I would agree that it is definatley a greater technilogical masterpiece, it was a dead heat in terms of overall fun.

Vettes on the other hand, I think are perfect. Ive driven C3s, C4s, and C5s, and had a ride in a C6... Of all, the C5 still continues to impress, and the C4 is still my favorite second only to the late-model C2 Corvettes. The handeling, the power, and the comfort are what make these cars not only legends in the US, but around the world.

The GTR, Im just not interested. I could care less about how well it performs, or how much money it will cost... The simple thing is that it is a dressed up G35 with a twin-turbo setup... When it will be going up against cars like the new V8-powered M3, the 2007 Zeta cars, the Audi R9, and the Cayman, it has some tough competition.

Here's the deal with the new GTR. Nissan says it will offer performance equal or superior to the Porsche 911 Turbo, at a price competitive with the 911 Carerra. It will not be detuned for the US market, as Japanese emissions regulations have, in recent years, become quite similar to those of California. That's why cars like the 350Z haven't sufferred power losses. It's also the reason for the switch to a V6, by the way.

GT-R will not be based on the FM platform, which underpins the G35 and 350Z, but instead on a new platform, on which a next-gen Z and Skyline/G35 may be based.

It's now slated for a 2008MY release, not a 2007 one.

As for the GT-R Proto from this year's TMS, it's likely to remain 90% similar in production, major changes including the change of the prominent carbon fiber parts to more conventional materials.

They claim they may be shooting for the 911 Turbo, but that is an extremely tough act to follow...

Given the "outstanding performance" given by the R34, which by todays standards barely walks away from an LS2-powered GTO, I continue not to expect much beyond the performance of the 911 Carrera S at the highest expectations.

I seem to recall Nissan talking trash about the 350Z vs C5 Corvette way back when the two were going to go head to head... We all know how that one turned out, with the 350Z playing patty-cake with the RX8 and Audi TT 3.2 Quattro.

Either way, it will be interesting to see how the car turns out in the end, and how much the market will change by the time the car is released in 2007, or whatever. If the rumors are correct, the 911 Turbo is supposed to be an equal to the C6 Z06 and Ford GT, a rough crowd to play with, and the upcomming GT2 and GT3 models arent going to be joking around either.

Maybe the GTR will have a better time playing with the GT3 and F430, but shooting for the Turbo and the Z06 seems a bit too high...

i can't answer the vette vs Viper argument...i've rarely seen a vette, never a viper (i saw a Prowler first!!), and never had a chance to even SIT in one...not only are the things rare as hen's teeth here in the backwoods of pennsylvania in the middle of amish/dairy country, those that show up at car shows are swarming with "touch and die" signs all OVER them :P

bXt: i agree with everybody else. the GT-R will be heavily detuned for the US emissions standards, etc. it'll probably have to meet the NEV california emissions standard. (that's not a typo of "new"...knowing california, they either have in the works or have passed a "no emissions" standard by now)

We have the Skyline already, it's called the Infiniti G35. The GT-R is a completely different car now, and is its own, separate model. We all know that the GT-R is coming here, sometime soon.

Now. Which car are you talking about?

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I think some of us are looking at the new GTR too much at this point. Thats becuase it was considered to have great performance back then doesnt mean it will repeat the same thing. The competition from other cars are getting tougher and tougher. They are getting good technology placed into them that maybe the GTR still wouldnt be able to KILL those cars. The races could be short and the GTR can still fall behind. :nervous:

Maybe the GTR will have a better time playing with the GT3 and F430, but shooting for the Turbo and the Z06 seems a bit too high...

I think that even the regular F430 would be too much for the GTR, that thing has moved up to a supercar level of performance, it's quite a significant leap from the 360.

Maybe Nissan see the GTR having similar straight line speed to a 911 Turbo, but the GT3, being quite a different animal, would probably kill it on a track.

Eeh, maybe the F430 may be a bit high... But I do know that the Euro-Market F430 is indeed faster than the US-Market model mainly because of the inclusion of the launch control... But when the Z51 Corvette can still knock on the F430's door in the US, I would expect the GTR to possibly do the same...

peeks back in*
the confirmer: GT-R only

peeps. if you haven't noticed, we have been getting the R3x's in the us as infinity q's, but with different taillights

No you havent, the US has not got any Nissan R3x models as anything.

Aye?

look em up, vipergtsr, ye might find that when the infinity brand was introduced to the US, the R31 in sedan form was used over here as the first Q...cause I recognised it as such.

Could you post some pics, you know what you have in mind more than I do.

*Edit* I cant find anything like you say.

In my opinion I don't think Nissan are really that worried about having major success in America with the next GT-R. They have been successfully marketing the Skyline model everywhere else in the world Pre-2003 without America's help so I don't see why it would be a flop if no-one in the US dished out the cash for one. Many Europeans and Asians are going to want one dearly and I think that it's the eastern (well really Japanese) market that's going to be their biggest income area.

Actually, they've only ever sold Skylines (excluding the V/G35 series) in Japan. Certain dealers in Aus, NZ, and the UK imported them, thanks to loose importation laws, but Nissan corp. never officially sold them outside Japan.

Second, the new Skyline/GT-R are vastly different from older models. They've gone for a much more up-market formula, as opposed to the traditional Skylines, which were inexpensive, simple, sedans and coupes. (Barring the GTS-t and GT-R coupes, and certain limited-production models like the Autech R33 "four-door GT-R") They've moved into the 3-series category now (and the GT-R into the M3 / Porsche 911 category), and while it means the newer cars are very nice, it also diminishes the prospective market.

While the Q does resemble an R30/31, it's no relation to the Skyline, aside from being a Nissan product. It's powered by an N/A SR20, and, IIRC, is FWD. I've got a good friend with a DR30, and I can assure that they're not related at all.

GT-R's biggest problem will be convincing the Porsche / 'Vette Z06 / etc market to take a look at a new car with no US history.

Alot of Skylines have been sold in Australia prior to R32 (S50's, C110, C210, R30, R31), infact Australian R31's were actually made in Australia, You see them everywhere. A bunch of R32 GTR's were sold in Australia but that stopped asoon as they were banned from racing due to their domination .

As I thought, N/A SR20 FWD... No way is that a R31 with different taillights like sniffs said.

Even the Infiniti G35 isn't an "R3x." It's a "V35," which I assume means Skylines are going to be V36, V37, etc. from now on, whereas GT-R's are going to be R35, R36, R37, etc.

400hp/395 lb.-ft. versus 276hp/289 lb.-ft.? ok?

anyway, yeah glad you guys have been pointing out that it is seperate from the skyline. i can't wait to see the progress of the thing. before they were not allowed to do too much but now it is its own entity so they have a ton of freedom.

the nismo Z-tuned R34 would compare to the Z06 <8- P that thing is nuts :scared:

oh yeah, you and me are pretty close YSSMAN im just a a short trip south of you :)

They have always said that the GTR was vastly underrated in the power department, and I wouldnt doubt it.

But being that the GTO/Monaro has become somewhat of a benchmark in the US for sports coupes (along with the M3 and 350Z Track), the GTR could come up short...

But, there really isnt anyway of telling as of yet...

haha yeah, i have always heard honda was pretty much the only company that was really following the gentlemen's agreement <8- P
yeah.....i am a big fan of the GTO too, but plain ol' F-bodies are something that could be a possibility for me in the future, i doubt i will get a GTO any time soon <8- (

i am really curious about the GTR's setup though, i have been hearing its going to just be RWD but also i have been hearing it's going to be AWD. There was a Best Motoring International that came out a while ago (not sure how long ago) but it was mainly about the RB series and a lot of the GTRs had traction issues while making around 500+hp or in that area but someone swapped a RB26DETT into a 350Z and it was very fast and had very good traction, it just shows how much things have advanced. 👍

500hp GTR's with traction issues? odd.

well it was not like they were spinning or anything, but the 350Z looked a bit less "shakey" but i am talking about what i would consider highly modified cars. the Z looked a bit more neutral around the track with less drama.

p.s.
sorry for going off topic.

well, either way, people. skyline's Gt-R is supposed to be headed here as originally designed, not a "sedaned" form like the q's (i swear they're at least using the Sky's front clip from the R33 on the 10th anniv Q), or a model transfer like the current G (nobody in the car groups seemed to like the Primera based G's very much). GT-r will show up as a coupe as expected. let's hope Japan took the hint seriously.

PS. i think we all know by now why Mitsu's GTO was rebaged to 3000GT in the US...copyright issues

Woah, that I actually never knew. Just thought they were dealer imports like in the UK.

Show us some example pics so I can see what you mean.

I'm still not a believer in the GTR. I may actually surpass the Mazdaspeed 6 as one of the greatest over-hyped Japanese sports cars of the last few years...

Id still put money on 400-450bhp, 0-60 in the mid 4's, and a $70K price tag.
