Run out of gas?

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever run out of gas? If so where and how long were you into the race?

I've wondered this for a long time but became extremely nervous in the 24 hour endurance race as near the beginning of it, first 5 hours there were 2 separate times where when I pitted in I had 1/80 gas remaining and was too close for my liking. It happened again at about 12 hours in when I hit 2 red bars of gas left as I approached the pit in and decided that I could make another lap since my tires weren't even yellow so I went around and about 2 minutes in I went to one bar and got extremely nervous I would run out and have to start over again after wasting all of that time. I was cautious, never reaching big speeds before sharp turns and not using the gas on down slopes and I knew if I could get full speed in the big straight away before the pit in that I'd have enough momentum to make it there. Luckily I did and pitted in with a safer 3/80 and decided from there on out I'll always get gas (whether it be a bit or full tank) when I pit in in those big races.

Does anyone have any funny stories of running out of gas or a close call situation such as mine?

I have not done any long turm races, but when you run out of fuel you slow down to a maximum speed of 50mph.

You have to drive back to the pits in "limp home" mode, when can't go more than 50km/h (31mph).

EDIT: Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too slow.

I once drove my '05 Ford GT for 19 laps nonstop in track meet at the Test Course. The speed falls off fast after drafting around at 220mph.

i've never ran out of gas... i thought the car would have just shut off?

is there a difference in gas consumption between driving a muscle car and a honda civic? and does the gas finish faster the harder you drive like in real life?

That would've been more realistic and better, the car spluttering to a hault when the fuel ran out to punish the stupid...but a las...they babied us and just slowed the car down until we pit.

As for fuel consumption I've noticed the faster you drive the quicker the fuel goes

Or they could send a "dunce" (tow) truck to tow you in, have to wait for it to come for you. Which at the 'Ring would take forever, split screen showing the truck exiting the pits and driving around at 50 mph to "rescue you".

Would be quite cool, but a bit unnecessary really. It would be a fun gimmic though. I wonder what would happen if the A.I. encountered it?

hehehe b-spec bob has run me out of gas more than once at the ring, I have to either force him to pit & refuel, or put him on tires that dont last as long

What kind of car does he drive to kill the gas before the tires at the ring??:nervous:

hmm, good question... was either the Minolta Toyota 88C-V or the Nissan 350Z Concept LM '02 on S1 tires. (thats the Nurburgring btw, not the high speed ring)

See Post #3 here :dunce:!!!!

Turns out the fire alarm was set off by the girls in the apartment at the end of our corridor, who'd tried to reheat last night's takeaway pizza in the oven..... without removing it from the cardboard box! :dunce:!!!!

The AI would keep their course no matter what and crash into it.

So if the tires become red (or for that matter, unable to use effectively anymore) while racing in B-Spec mode, then the driver pits in by himself?

And when you run out of gas, then you go around at 50mph until you reach a pit? If that was true, I'd rather kill myself....what a waste of time, 50mph....*shaking my head*

All the talk about those fast cars, meh. What about pure speed! Like 11 MPH in the Motor Carriage!. Now if I ran out fuel with that heap, i can only wonder how slow it would go!:nervous:

Well, the closest I have come to running out of fuel was when I pitted, it says 0/80, although I was going at full speed prior to pitting. Yeah, it was on the Nordeschleife too.
