Well I spent about 45minutes to an hour searching through different words trying to find what I was looking for so I didn't have to post and get flamed by the very irretable members, you know who you are ;) but I couldn't find anything so here it goes.

I've always been into FWD and AWD cars and I know about a good number of them too. I can talk about evo's, and integra's all day but after talking to one of my friends who is buying an S2000 and who is also starting a drifting club with his other RWD friends I began to become curious about rwd cars. I was wondering if some people could help me out and list some of the more common, and/or better RWD cars used for tuning. This includes drag,track, and drift tuning. I'm just curious about good RWD cars in general.
 
Camaro, Firebird, Trans Am, and Mustang are about the most common I'd say.
 
And for drift you and about a million others will think I'm nuts but I think the best thing for drifting has to be pick up trucks. Think about how much power and torque they have, then think about how much weight they don't have in the rear end.
 
Trucks aren't necessarily great for drifting. They have many benefits, like what you mentioned, and also a stiff suspension stock, however, they're dangerous for drifting because they have such a high center of gravity, making them more of a rollover risk. That can be solved by slamming the thing, though.

I'm not the smartest guy, I know but could you explain the skyline part of that?
 
Holy ****. I had no clue, why the hell didnt they just call it a skyline, thats much cooler than G35...
 
The reason they called it G35 was to keep with Infiniti's naming tradition. G somehow denotes a sporty car, and the 35 is for the 3.5l motor.

Infiniti and Lexus both use numbers instead of the JDM names, because of the example set by Mercedes and BMW. In the mind of the consumer, a car with an alphanumeric name has come to be recognized as a more exclusive car.
 
Why is it that the 350z and the G35 have almost identical specs? The 350z is lighter but I think they may have the same exact engine.

Believe it or not, but 50-50 (or close to that) weight distribution is a lot better for drifting than having all the weight in the front with very little weight in the back. I've heard of people trying to setup trucks for drifting and they end up understeering like crazy and it makes it extremely hard to hold longer drifts.

The current Skyline has nothing to do with the old R30 to R34's we all know and love/loath. What Nissan has done is they've made a new executiveish coupe based on the skyline chassis but with a FR setup not 4wd, it's aimed at a different market to the older Skylines. But the next true Skyline, and I say true, because of the lenth of time the Skyline hasbeen connected to Nissans flagship performance cars will simply be called the Nissan GT-R. It's not due until 2007, however expect it to have at least 400Bhp, and again it will be 4wd, and Nissan will be aiming to make in the most technically advanced performance car ever.

So since the R34 was axed, the Skyline name is no longer atached to Nissans sports car, for now the 350Z is their flagship, and next year it will be racing in the JGTC in the GT500 class against the NSX's, Supra's, Vipers and the McLaren F1.

the 35 is because it a model after the 34, the G35 has also come out with the VQ45DE.

I don't know I can drift my Blazer pretty good. Why I did is beyond me but I can.

V35 is because it comes after R34, not G35. If you notice, all of Infiniti's cars are named for the motor size. And the G35 is only available with the VQ35DE, at least here in the US. (The V35 Skyline has a variety of engines available.)

beats me I just hit about 30mph and cranked the wheel, truck slide sideways and I held it there for a second or two
 
blazin, you are with out a doubt truely unique

Have you ever watch real drfiting at the professional level, they take turns at speeds up to a 100 mph, thats a bit more than 30, and its a lot more controlled than, what it seems your doing, download some d1 videos or watch jdm insider, its good stuff
 
well I think i would be scared sh**less if I tried a 100mph drifting in a SUV. I think I would flip over, over, over and over. Not something I want to do.

And while I don't exactly like drifting, I give the drivers all the respect in the world. To keep a car stable at high speeds and be sideways amazes the living hell outta me.
 
I'm suprised BMWs haven't been mentioned. Quick, powerful cars. Some of the big, beefy Mercedes have decent amounts of power. The new SVT Mustangs have huge power and potentional.

Seriously, though, my car has awesome drag potential(with 470rwhp, and all...:p). Some track potential with suspension mods.

BMW's are quick. Mainly just the M3, and M5. My Dad's 328i is slow as ****. His 540i, or whatever the ****, is somewhat quicker. Then there's that 5 series my Dad's second ex-wife wrapped around some trees. It was ungodly slow, but it was old - like a 95, or something.

The Mercedes E55 AMG is badass.:trouble:

d00d, dat would bit tizzight if you show3d... I can't even stand talking like that. I won't continue. But yes, the Mustangs just have stupid-silly amounts of power.

What about the Z8? I know they're pretty rare around here, but I never looked into their performance. And won't there be a new V10 BMW 5/3/whatever Series coming out?

Some of the Mercedes AMGs are just ungodly in general. If I get a decent amount of cash, there will definatly be one in my garage. I saw a.... I believe it was a S55 AMG on the way to an autocrossing this Sunday. I wanted to see what it could do, but my dad was right in front of me, blocking me, and plus, it couldn't put him in a good mood Besides, I'm still in the middle of the street on just playful coaxing like that is just as stupid an immature as street racing, or if it's "okay".

Really? My dad's 328i seems pretty fast to me. 190HP and all. I mean, the thing can do 140 MPH.
 
Hey top speed means nothing, I had a festiva that could do 140...





Down a long hill, with a good wind behind it, preferably towed by a ferrari.:)

I forgot about the Z8 because it's so damn rare, and expensive. But, yes, it's also fast. High 12's/low 13's. And I believe the new M5 is going to be some crazy 500hp V10.

Meh. Don't listen to what I say. I'm starting to feel that my close-to-500hp Mustang isn't fast(enough). A 328i is fast compared to a lot of cars, it just isn't fast after you've driven cars as fast as I've driven.
 
The most tunable BMWs are going to be the M cars. The aftermarket on E36 M3s is easily the strongest of them all. There are NA routes for ~300hp and FI routes up to ~500hp. Probably the most interesting kit is the twin screw blower coming from Eurosport. Should be about ~420 on low boost, ~500 on high boost with cooling. This kit will fit non-M 3 series cars too... so watch out for those blown 330i's. Pretty quick. Most powerful M3 I've heard of is a completely built ~600 hp turbo car.

The E46 M3 is hard to get power out of. The factory got really close to begin with. FI in the next year or two.

The V8 based 5 series has a few supercharger routes, but not near as mature as the M3. There are a few 12, 11 second blown 540i's running around. The V8 M5 should have plenty on tap, but I don't know of many kits for it.

Most people buy BMWs as good, decently quick daily drivers or (less often) track cars, not drag racers or some of the crazy 900hp monsters you see. There are track parts out the wazzo for M3s.

AMGs are no brainers to tune. Just change a pulley and flash the ECU.

5.5 V10, 500hp M5, confirmed.

4.0 V8, 400hp M3, probable.

Given BMW M's penchant for high-rev, high-strung, high compression motors the days of FI on M cars are slowly coming to an end.
