Just having problems with the S-6 F40 Overtake challenge. Can't do it, have played with settings over and over again. The best i can get is 5th.

Any help? Ideas, tips?

Only managed it in 2nd place but only 0,388 Seconds behind the black-mask-Nissan.

Did it that way in short words:

Driving Physics: Standard
ESP & Traction-Control: OFF (Costs too much time in the hairpin)

1. good slipstream
2. overtaking F599, next car (???), 512 BBi AND Lexus on the inside by braking late
3. slowly "squeezing" between Ford GT (on the outside) and Vette (on the inside) then full throttle at exit (by leaning on the GT).
4. staying left on track
5. braking late for next left curve, leaning on SL 55 AMG -> full throttle
6. clean braking for next uphill-right to get good and early accelleration
7. braking late to get the inside-curbs in the next left bend. If everything worked great till now, you should be able to overtake M3 in this left-bend. If not: there is another Chance in the following long right. If overtaking the M3 on that right didn´t work: forget it & start over again.
8. exit of that long right should be clean and "deep" on the inside to accellerate early
9. the very very long fast left hander is good for overtaking 2-3 cars (at least when braking for the fast Right)
10. hard braking for the tight Right (before the track-bridge). When exiting that tight right you should have passed the TVR or at least be alongside.
11. Braking for tight (already mentioned) hairpin: Early braking to get the apex and to get a clean line. Now you should be right behind the R8 (or, if everything worked brilliant, you could have passed him on the brakes)
12. Should be no problem to pass the following very long right with full throttle
13. Again not braking too late to get a clean drive through the following double left. When exiting you should at least see the Nissan (Leader).
14. Now getting into slipstream is a fine piece of work.
15. R130 (the fast left) is possible with 195 km/h.
16. tight right/left combination: When the brake-indicator start to "blink", let him blink !!! When it has flickered 3 or 4 times start to brake. I assume that this could be the overtaking possibility for the Nissan, but yet i´m not close enough.

That´s it !!! Third place is always possible ! (that means 20.000 Credits for one lap)
When overtaking you can really "press a little" on the inside !!

Good Luck !

Don't overtake the lexus on the inside. You have to overtake it on the outside.
Point 7 is very important. If you can't pass the M3 before the long open left --> no chance to overtake the GTR.

No - you can either take the Lexus on the outside or in - if you go in, you then have to squeeze between the GT and the Corvette. If outside, need hard braking, but then can get up to 8th or 9th by overtaking them all on the small straight up to the first of the esses.

Other than this, I do it exactly as alex says above.

I don't see how people are having a problem getting on the podium for this race. Gold is exceptionally difficult to get, yes. But silver and below is very easy if you complete the first part right. By the first part, I mean the primary overtaking of the first bunch of ten or so cars. Mastering this part is paramount.

I tried both versions of overtaking the lexus and i think that the inside way is less dangerous (regarding to Collision-Penalties or ending in the gravel).

My biggest mistake in my last 100 ~ 200 attempts was not to drive the F40 aggressive enough. You can do lots of things in middlefast and superfast bends with the car. When i was expecting it to change to understeer i got off the throttle. Yesterday i learned that the car is really "hungry for Curves" when you give it a full-throttle-Kick. Then it is much easier to get alongside an opponent and overtake on the inside of a bend.

Still need to learn much more about the possibilities with the F40.

put the suspension settings up to 7 on front 8 on back, lower the ride height 5 all round. this will stop the car rollin to much

I made it last Saturday ! Didn´t change the Suspension or the Car-height cause in my eyes the changes made it drive a little "strange". Don´t know, how to describe it better.

But i just did a clean lap (like described before) and found two more opportunities to gain some speed: The tight right before the bridge and the fast right before it. Found out, that both curves could be driven in a higher gear when driving a little bit more over the curbs. So i made it with over half a second in front of the black mask.

Me too cant get any better that 5th!! doing my head in. Is it true if you become first you get £2,000,000 in the PAL version?

I think you're better off getting 2.000.000 cr. in the japanese version...

Once again it goes to show how BS this game is... its not a driving simulator, you just learn what you can and cannot use to bump off of. Please In real life you would have proper tires and I love how you try to stick to your line and they come over on you and you get the penalty. The secret to this stage is to learn to drive around the entire field without touching the grass and other cars... PD has done it again... By telling ignorant people "this is how it is in real life" when it is far from it.

I managed to do this after lot of trying, no changes to the car

all of the above by alex is right.

i took the tvr on the tight right before the bridge and then took the r8 at the hairpin. chased the gtr down and took him on the straight after slipstream and then drove very very carefully the rest of the way to win..

well, the S6 one just made me understood how (relatively) poorly the gameplay of this game is.

I just felt like those guys who know perfectly super mario bros and who can do the whole game in 5 minutes or so.

anyway, the key point here, as many noticed it, is the first corner, but also the take off

1st do somed rafting behind the 599 in front, the overtake and try to get as much as you can from the old ferrari in front of the ISf

then you can do it either dirty either "gran turismo clean" (i.e. use 2 cars to help you turn it) both end up with a similar result

anyway, take the lexus from inside (use it or not), meaning, brake late, then brake hard, don't ram the ferrari, overtake from the right (outside) and the get the hole between the F40 and the tuscan, you should end up right behind or on the side of the mercedes SL here. the M3 has to be overtaken in the last right hander of the corner series the next left hander you should be overtaking the skyline and the viper

the tvr can be overtaken around the "hairpin" (either before, in or right after), the R8 in the spoon curve (I assume it's the spoon one, right before a downhill then uphill straight), the black mask will be overtaken in the last chicane or right after

draft as much as you can, it's not that hard, I even managed 1st or 2nd with collisions penalties.

my advice here, if you fail somewhere, keep doing the track til the end, you get decent $$$ and it's allways good practice anyway.

for the dirty part at the beginning, ram into the lexus you'll be a ghost and it'll be pretty easy to get in front of the F40 right behind the mercedes at the 1st corner's exit.

if you're not at least aside with the M3 at the serie's last right hander, you won't make it.

for those who were wondering, you don't unlock the blackmask winning this race.

I don't get it, I've read everywhere that the IA were improved while in races like this, it's basically a scripted IA...

The AI has improved but but is basically still stupid.

Hope this will help.

Has anyone got either gold or silver in pro without driving dirty? I think the game needs to drive the ai on pro if you are on pro, and standard if you are on standard.

i don't think its doable on pro.

on standard, its a pain, but after you "memorize" where the scripted AI will be, its easier.

asking you to overtake 15 cars in 2'23 its unrealistic on its own, so maybe that's why so many people resort to cheating ways.

only thing i'm doing different is overtaking both the ford gt and the vette on the outside. to easy to get a penalty if you try to go on the middle of them. induce a drift in the end of the first corner, then you will be able to get on the outside with good exit speed.

as for settings, a stiffer suspension really helped me (10/10, 10/10, -15/-15).

now, if you do this event just to make money, then i wouldn't try to be 100% clean. the task is unrealistic and the AI will get on your way a couple of times. i don't feel guilty if i hit someone, after all, its just a money maker race.

and if you're really pissed off with the ai you can always use the stupid glitch that allows you to cut the second corner, like people are using in timetrials (standard mode). even with the penalty the game gives you, you end up in third before degner. go figure

Youtube: search for "Mr P GT5P". He manages S6 clean, but you'll need to ask him via PM whether it's Pro or not.

AMG.

Yes many times and tomorrow I shall post a video showing exactly how.

What I did is set the traction control to 1 and changed the final drive ratio. Many of the bends are done in either 1st or 2nd gear and I only ever get into 4th gear for a very short space of time. Once I changed the gear ratio I found this challenge much easier and can pretty much get 1st every time.

Ok, that would be much appreciated. It took me about 7 hours with what sounds like a very similar setup as yours to get 3rd place. Can't believe i wasted so much time haha.

LOL.

The reason why getting gold is nearly impossible with a "clean" drive is because PD screw up the spec of the F40.

Wait until 4/15 update and see if they fix it.

I think I just got it with a time of 2:23:580

The bottom line is you MUST be within 4s of the leader on sector I to even have a chance, otherwise you can pretty much restart the race.

Personally, I have no interest in doing these stupid missions. It practically turn a driving game into a trial and error platformer. I would have never spent time on it if I didn't got a pm asking for settings.

I uploaded the video to my youtube channel.

That Ferrari F40 event, took me about 1 hour and some minutes to get gold. Video on the previous page. Standard, automatic, no tractioncontrol.

I changed the gear ratio, to accelerate faster and have a lower topspeed!

I prefer a race sim like Simbin's GTR Get the game and start practicing. No stupid events, You don't have to earn money etc...

:)

That's a nice run! I actually find this race (and the Ford GT S-class time trial event) to be great for earning quick credits while still on Pro settings. I've caught the 3-4-5 pack a few times on Pro but am solid for 6th place on a repeat basis which translates to 1,250,000 credits in the JPN version. Not bad for 2:30 of work. :)

If anyone's got a solid third place or higher Pro car, would you care to share the settings?

These are my settings for third place on pro,
height -13 -13
spring rate 4 3
damper 4 3
toe 0 -0.05
camber 2.0 1.7
brakes 7 4
turning 40
tcs 1
abs 1
1st 2.346
2nd 1.775
3rd 1.422
4th 1.068
5th 0.846
Final 3.293

The gears were set up to be easier for sixaxis controller
