So I just bought an HDTV today (yay:) ) and obviously I want to be able to play GT4 with 1080i. So my question is, should I get the s-video adapter or the component adapter? Which one offers better picture quality?

How else is the TV going to be used?

Is it going to be used solely with the PlayStation 2?
Is the console going to play movies?

If so, component cables would be a good investment.

If the console will only play games, then S-video is probably good enough and that leaves the component connectors free to hook up a DVD player and get better movie images.

Cheers,

1080i only works via component, so you have no choice.

It's a good investment, trust me. I enjoy mine. Plus, you'll be able to use them with the PS3.

You dont need the Monster name brand but you do want the component cables. Like they said above, its the only way to truly see HDTV gaming. 👍
Just remember if you play GT4 in 1080i you will have to set it to HDTV 1080i EVERY time you play the game.

Here's another vote for the Sony brand component video cables. Go for it!

And if your TV doesn't have enough inputs, try one of these:

Whoa, it's on sale for $70 bucks... I paid 90 or so for mine. Best Buy will probably try to charge you over $100 for a switch of lesser quality...

Component cables are the only cables that are compatible with 1080i mode on any set.

Component cables greatly reduce color bleeding and bring out the vibrancy in the colors. S-Video cables sharpen the image, but in 1080i, the HDTV already sharpens it for you, so component is obviously your choice here.
