S2000 Comparison! Amuse *vs* Mugen *vs* Spoon

Would love to get some discussion going with members' opinions on these cars! :)

*Amuse S2000 Street Version*
*Mugen S2000*
*Spoon S2000*

Much difference between them?

Loves? Hates? Tips? Advice? đź‘Ť
 
Unfortunately the mugen and Spoon S2000's are not premium, so I haven't gotten around to using. I love the Amuse S200 gt1. That thing is beastly. Otherwise I just drive an unmodified stock S2000.

Try comparing them as well to the stock S2000 so you can see how improved are they from their stock counterpart.

Honestly, I haven't tried any of them. Not a fan of standards.
 
All 3 are standard models.

That's not a problem for me. I have multiples of all 3.

I tend to drive the Amuse most. Both the Street Version and the R1. They just feel "right" to me. Not that the others don't drive well and fast.

The Spoon is at a disadvantage due to the lack of a turbo option. But hey, that's Spoon. Hardcore NA to the bone.

Disadvantage? Not too sure on that one, but in terms of player/driver enjoyment or general liking of the car itself "hardcore N/A to the bone" sounds pretty damn sweet to me!!

It's certainly a disadvantage when your opponent has that big fat torque curve of the turbo. :lol:
 
HUGE fan of the NA power. Yet to find the amuse road version, but the spoon version is lovely. I find it could have done with a 5 speed rather than the 6 speed though, as its got a wide enough torque curve, and having that extra gear means shifting CONSTANTLY (especially at a track like the nordshleifer).

Yet to see the amuse road version come up for sale. It was one of my favourite cars in GT4.

This is true, although their power/torque delivery isnt as linear, making it a trickier beast to tame.

If the N/A driver can ensure he keeps the engine in the power band (like a good N/A driver should) there shouldnt be any fundamental disadvantage.

(Then again I suppose the Turbo driver can just do the same thing lol...)
 
I like them all.
Espacially on Autumn Ring. No turbo-option isn´t a advantage. I refuse to install a Turbo to a S2000.
They are all major fun to drive, stock or tuned and they rock in their pp-class (400-500pp me think ?? or could they be tuned higher without Turbo ??)
 
The mugen is overall the best of the 3 you mention. Good car!

The spoon is the slowest..60hp less than the amuse and mugen

The amuse street version has the same hp as the mugen, is heavier, 60kg more than the other 2, handles worse.
 
No love for the Titan R1? I loved that car in GT4. Not driven it much in GT5 since it's not premium and I like to cruise around using the interior view.

I got one and immediately painted it orange. :dopey: (11 minutes in, for the short on time)

I love the look of the Spoon, but it's trickier to drive than the stock car!
The Mugen feels nice, and I've not tried the street version of the Amuse.

I tend not to modify these already modified cars.
 
I did a quick test on Suzuka using those S2000, best out of three laps each car.

Every car was engine rebuilt, oil was changed, and confort soft tires were fitted. I drove using no aids and H pattern manual shift plus clutch.

The regular S2000, fully stock offers good amount of grip, slides a little bit, but nothing uncontrollable, it has short gear ratio so it reaches 6th gear on the straights with ease. Nothing more to say, it's your regular S2000.

Laptime was 2:34.9

Mugen S2000 offers good amount of grip while cornering, but the back feels a bit heavy at times entering the corner, it tends to understeer under braking, but still predictable and enjoyable to ride, it somehow has a bit wider gearbox, feels a tad sluggish in 4th and 5th gear, but overall it offers a great balance.

Laptime was 2:32.4

Amuse S2000 Street Version, it's the fastest of the lightly tuned S2000, though it's a tricky ride at times, it dives in very well into the apex, but the back end feels way too stiff, making it bumpy and very prone to slide on power, it has great acceleration and great top end speed, it has good brakes, very balanced, so even under heavy breaking the car still responds well. Although its inherently fast, you'll find yourself countersteering quite a lot coming out of the corners.

Laptime was 2:30.8

Then there are other two that are in another league:

Opera Performance S2000, its very light, very fast, it has the best acceleration of them all, great traction coming out of the corners, tents to slide a bit sometimes maybe due to the lack of weight on the back, but it just blaze through the corners, right goes right, left goes left instantly. I gave up on testing this one at the very first lap and it still clocked 2:23.6

Titan R1, it's heavier than the Opera, yet it's still as fast, maybe has the best driveability of them all, it corners like a dream in high speed corners due to it's massive wing, and you always feel on crontrol of every situation. And the sound... Although not the fastest, it's my favorite ride of them all. Gave up on testing this on the first lap as it's way faster than the lightly tuned cars and it still clicked 2:25.8 with a very bad lap.

That's my view of the stock cars with stock settings.

Nice writeup. And it conforms with my experience also. It's not surprising that the Opera is quick in the game. This reflects both the reality of the car and also Kaz's very close relationship with Opera Performance.

The Opera and the R1 are my 2 favorite S2ks in the game, with the edge going to the R1 for being paintable.

These 2 cars both get penalized on power in the PP system due to phenominal handling. Don't be surprised if you get beat on the straights by cars of similar PP, but very few street cars will stay with them in the twisties.

I ran a race in the R1 recently at 450PP on Sport Soft tires. At the start this Civic blew me off, but he slid out in the first turn. I could have pressed the issue but I decided to follow him for a few corners until he made a big enough mistake for me to pass totally clean. He pulled away again on the next straight but then slid right off the corner and I drove by. When he couldn't catch back up he announced that the tire selection sucked and demanded another race for FF only. :dunce:
