Take into account that the base 3-series V6 begins at $34800,

whoa there nelly. BMW has NEVER made a V6. never ever ever. they have made straight sixes, V8's, V12's, V10's (mclaren!) inline fours, an inline 5 (80s diesel motor!) horizontally opposed two's (late 50's BMW 700s) a single (isetta) but never a V6.
this is a huge gaffe for someone who considers themself a bmw afficionado.
as for price, the 3 series msrp is listed as 30100- 43600 on msn.
invoice for the same is listed as 27550- 39835.
so youre off by anything from $4500 to $7200 on BASE model price. note that you did say base 3 series.

Oh darn. I made a mistake. Who the **** gives a ****?

Actually, I don't.

My God, you ****ing idiots: I SAID BASE MODEL WITH A SIX-CYLINDER!! It's written right there!! I have no idea why I keep coming here with all of you jackasses. Pay attention or go over to a forum dealing in Honda or Acura products.

M5Power you seem to get in alot of arguments

He does because he's not a very friendly person.....Viper, you know what you need to do......Make a annonymous s/n and then go to something he posted and say "I don't think you're right"...He will call you an idiot and say you have no idea what you're talking about, but since he's been here for a long time nothing will be done....

dont get testy. just pointing out an obvious mistake.

Actually, I don't.

and i never said you did. i simply said it was a huge gaffe for an afficionado. others have defended you as someone who was. obviously from that blunder, you arent. i never thought so.

this plea to god will get you nowhere. all bmws sold in this country have at least an inline 6 as the base model. bmw does not sell a four cylinder model in the states except through its MINI division. so regardless of what you have just said, we are talking about a 6 cylinder model. its just a straight six, not a bent six as you would have had us believe.

perhaps you should pay attention or get your facts straight.

perhaps you keep coming over here to enjoy the company of your fellow jackasses. (it takes one to know one!)
perhaps you think you know more about cars than others and you take the elitist point of view that people who talk about hondas and acuras can't really know anything about cars. after all, all they know is that a sticker will add 20 horsepower and a big wing will give you more downforce. so maybe you come here to lord it over all of us poor hondacura folk.
or perhaps you like being in a forum with a lot of young folk who arent very knowledgable and you can tell them stuff and seem like an automotive know it all.
maybe you just come here coz another forum is down right now.

so why do you come here then?

So what if the M3 is heavier? You shouldnt base how good a car is on wieght alone...

LOL who ever said I based how the bad the M3 was on just its weight....? :( ;)

My original reply was clear as day. There is NO ambiguity as to the intent or purpose of my statement and trying to place the onus back on me simply doesn't fly. You said the M3 didn't perform as well as the S4 or C32, and I corrected you. Simple as that.

C'mon. You're playing dumb to avoid having to admit you were wrong. Be a man and admit it. :trouble:

I agree completely - thing is, I couldn't care less about supercars. I don't waste my time finding out what they cost or how much horsepower they have. They're a waste of money and completely impractical, and I hate them. [/B]

So tell me what makes a $70k 911 (with only 320 hp) subject to your supercar clause, but a $120k SL55 (with 495) is not.

Your handle is M5Power. The E39 M5 only made 396 but was a $68k car. A base Chevy Impala for $18k upgraded with Chevy's own Police Interceptor suspension package and a Corvette LS6 powertrain (which would drop in with a few mods) can keep up with an M5 and have more interior room and trunk space for less than half the total cost. Add gears and a 5k blower and the M5 is sucking Impala exhaust.

Does this make an M5 a waste of money? If it is not, then what are the elements that make an M5 worth having?

I think they're about the same. A base M3 without sunroof and leather seats weigh about 3390 lbs. A typically 'optioned out' SMG car with all the stuff checks in at about 3480 lbs.

How much does an R34 V Spec weigh?

Didn't think you'd cause such a ruckus with this thread, did ya? ;)

Have to admit, the Scooby doesn't do it for me. How about a couple of Victoria's Secret models laying out over the hood of a 550 Maranello?

funny somone would run an S4 with all those other cars when obviously on a track the s4 would place last.

i know alot of S4 fans are gonna try and disagree but a 4000 lb car is not gonna keep up with the rest, the car is fast and they all run similar acceleration times so therefore everything would obviously be left to the corners, and everyone her should know that the lighter car would obviously corner faster.

i was reading the first page, and excied because it looked like a good thread. i liked how everyone knew what they were talking about. then i got to the second page.

m-spec is the man.

i cant decide because i havent driven them all back to back. i make all my decisions carefully. if i had the money right now, id get an 850ci as a daily driver. perfect supplement to my e30.

ive raced at the track with an evo, an sti, and numerous e46 m3s. When it comes down to 3-5 seconds time, it totally depends on drivers skill. it was a kid driving the evo, but he seemed to know what he was doing. i was surprised it wasnt quicker in the straIGHTS.

the STI was going balls out into turn 1 (mile long straight followed by banked turn, flat in e30 m3), and was quicker in the straights, so it ran a couple seconds quicker than the evo.

i honestly cant remember how the e46s did. my car wasnt a good benchmark comparision back then because everyone was passing me anyways.

i think at this track a really good driver could get the evo to run with the sti and e46 m3s. it has long straights, but a 3rd gear back section where a lot of time can be made up. my experiences have showed me the ability to toss the **** out of a car in the back section helps a lot. id like to see how an evo would do.

it comes down to driver honestly. in gt3 everything is close, but in real life driver can make a 205hp e30 quicker than a 280hp sti, or even an e46. the other driver doesnt even need to suck that much.

Yep.

when it comes down to it, the most important nut in a car is the one behind the wheel. any race car driver can take anyone of us here out in a lowly E30 M3 (a giant killing machine!!! worship and bow down!!!) vs anything from a porsche turbo to a race car.

the driver is easily the biggest factor. and some prefer turbo. while others prefer NA. and others yet admire the advantages offerred by all wheel traction.
there really is no best among these cars. best is too subjective.

Probably. And when you ask some people for their favourite SUV, some are going to say the Pontiac Aztek, despite popular opinion. Nevertheless, best can surely be debated... even if it isn't agreed upon.

You're right..the best can be debated but a blatent argument is far from neseccary.

What is neseccary? I like neseccary things. Neseccary to the max(z0rz). Sometimes I wish I had a neseccary machine; it makes things neseccary.

would you guys believe that the 350z would beat a m3 around a track, well i didnt till i heard about that road and track test, and the best motoring video. its hard to believe cause the m3 has better skidpad numbers, accelerates faster, it has 333hp which is like about 45 more horses than the 350z, it weighs a little more though, about 3250 vs. 3450, and doesnt it have better balance too? well what do you guys think?

like i said in the other thread, or i didnt say it, but i think the 350z is over rated.
maybe the TT version should get the praise, but my bro was driving his car around and saw a e36 m3 race a 350z.... the z got spanked i dont know that details but m3s are also good at auto X'ing too, specially the e30 m3
in this comparo id probably take the amg last cuz, it doesnt offer either a stick or awd
1: m3 (although it isnt a sedan)
2: evo it can run a track faster than the sti
3: i love sti's but the evo has better #'s
4: audi looks awsome and awd but thats about it

actually the 350z, and the e36 m3 are about the same in a straight line, so id say whoevers the better driver would win.

the sti pulled a lot harder in the straights. i was surprised how slow the evo seemed. it outpulled me in straights, but not by much. my car had probably 205-210hp (car weighs 2900 approx) then, i maxed out in the straight at 125. the evo was doing a little over 130. thats after a mile long straight. out of corners it barely pulled. chasing the STI, as soon as it was out of the corner it was gone.

i say again that i can see the evo being quicker than the sti at the track, but let it be known that the STI accelerates quite a bit faster at speed. the 1/4 numbers may be similar because of awd turbo launches, but 3rd gear acceleration at the track is what matters.

i read that too. i think i also read somewhere that it wasnt a tight comparison. i doubt the drivers had enough time with the cares to exploit the differences. ive battled with a 350z (g35 also). it wasnt being pushed too hard, but it would be hanging with an evo. i dont like car magazines. a stock e46 would be lapping quite a bit quicker than that. power differences can be a huge deal.

tell me about it!!

i get off by running with donny brooke up at BIR. a small racing school located on an upperclass blvd. many a ferrari and porsche drivers. i feel cool when i ride the asses of 360s and vettes in the corners, only to be destroyed in the straights.

its been discussed on e30 boards plenty of times. its all owed to how comfortible you feel pushing the car. it goes exactly where you want, you are always aware of whats going on witht he contact patches. awesome car. A 200hp 4 banger owning 300-400hp cars, come on.

For the record, I don't feel that Doug and I had any hostility over our portion of this debate. Fact of the matter is, I often agree with his Consumer Reports type car comparision and value the approach he brings to any car comparo. I just wanted to rattle his chain a little when he was misrepresentin' on the M3.

So don't get me wrong. Doug is alright by me.

I can beleive it. Its been shown many times a stock Z is just as fast as a stock M3 around shorter tracks (though the Z has no chance at a place like Sebring or RA). The M3 is under-tired and under-cambered' up front. Its basically setup by the factory to understeer the driver out of trouble. That means the only way to push hard is to scrub the front end bad or kick the tail out drive it sideways --and we all know that's not very fast. Road and Track did an excellent handling analysis on the car a year or so ago. As I've said before, the M3 needs a few modest suspension adjustments before it really hits full potential on the track.

On the other hand, the 350Z is already excellent out of the box.

BTW. I think the Track model Z weighs about 3380.
