Safety at GT3 tracks if they were real life

After yet another of my enormous testing accidents at Trial Mountain over the weekend, I got to thinking about just how dangerous some of the GT3 tracks would be if they were real-life circuits.

I'd be interested in hearing from people about corners or sections of tracks that they think would be banned if the GT3 tracks were real.

I'll nominate a couple to kick off:
- the flat out left-right kink at Trial Mountain on pit straight. Apart from the lack of run-off, that bank on the right just spells 'high speed rollover', or, as we saw in another thread, a launching pad into the conveniently placed bridge over the circuit.
- the flat out left hander on to pit straight at Deep Forest - where's the run-off on the outside?
- the first corner (the third gear right hander) at Tokyo - NO run off for heavy braking from high speed. Who of us hasn't gone in a bit deep under braking to make a pass and gone into the tyres BIG time there?

Where else do people have 'big-offs' where they would probably have been killed?

-The turns next to the mountain at Trial Mountain, you hit those your dead
-Turns in between the tunnels at Deep forest and in the tunnels

More to come :)

I would say that most all of Tokyo would be a problem. There's no room for "getting into trouble". If you're off your line then you're in the wall and debris is flying at the grand stands. It's like this just about anywhere along the course. Seattle isn't much better, either.

Interesting thread ... I've not thought much about the dangers included in making GT3 courses real. I'm still thinking the Complex String would be the most fun (:

Now you mention it, the fast left on the back straight at Deep Forest (I do love that circuit) where you brush through the trees - go wide there and you hit ROCKS!.

How about the first two corners on Apricot Hill?

Those arent that bad, atleast there is some run-off room, they are just like an F1 track, i cannot think of the name at this moment, will get back to you on that.

Yeah - there's a bit of run off there, though (who hasn't had to fish a car out of there parked facing the wrong way?)

The right hander at the top of the hill at Seattle - miss that braking point just before the last jump in something halfway powerful and it's SMACK!

I hit that one so hard that I bounced into the air, then hit the ground with my tires spinning and smacked it again! I think it's a pretty cool spot though, especially racing against other human racers. It's hard to remember to break early while your tires are still holding the road, and most of the time I can go shooting by my parked opponent.

First 2 turns at suzuka is the best I can found right now, a quick right hander and the slower right hand turn right after it.

And at the Malaysian Grand prix, again first 2 turns are right handers but they look just like Apricot's

I dont remember which licsence test it is, the one with the Camero taking that turn, I did that for a very very long time until I got gold, if you get gold on that one and you remember what you did, then you wont have that problem anymore

~ZeroCool85 has spoken

Never mind, LoudMusic. I had a little chuckle.

Re that corner at Seattle, yeah, it's fine if you remember, but every now and then (and usually in something with over 800hp) you'll hit that last jump and while in the air think 'shouldn't I have braked there' - SMACK...

The pit entrance at Laguna Seca was always a ***** for me in GT2. I'm glad that GT3 kicks in the auto-pilot on that a bit sooner.

Memories of David Coulthard at Adelaide in 1995!

yah, chuckle for me too..................oh, that corner ......yah, i still do that from time to time with the big boys especially after just doing the same track with a car with a quarter the power ;)

Any tracks which have jumps in them would not be safe for real-life racing. There would be too much of a risk of cars flying into walls, other cars, or spinning out of control.

Anyone see that great old footage of Jo Schlesser at, I think, the old Nurburgring, from the mid 70s - you see the car (heading toward the camera) crest the rise and the air gets under the front wing, and it levers the car into the air into a flip (similar to the Merc GTR accidents at Le Mans a couple of years ago).

Yeah - I guess that could be classified as pretty dangerous...

There's really only Seattle that you get that, though. Well, you get a little one at Trail Mountain coming out of the tunnel there in the quicker cars, I suppose. Is there anywhere else (apart from the rallies)?

If you hit the corkscrew just right you can fly!

Perhaps it is the time of day the race is ran at, but that was the first track that had nasty turns placed at the end of phat straight-a-ways which aren't clearly marked. The first time I ran the course there was a couple times I said, (while cruising near top speed) " I see a wall, but which way is the street...Left?!?! Right?!?!" *CRUNCH*

Tho' now that I have ran it a few times, getting air coming down that hill and turning the corner at the bottom all "Dukes of Hazard" style is kinda fun..

The first few (20 or so ... ) times I ran Seattle counter-clockwise, I was breaking hard coming into that turn. Then I noticed the computer cars were gaining on me or just flying past. So I had to force myself into staying on the gas. It's fun when you get it going (: But then you have to break HARD to make the next right, punch it to the next left and break hard for the 180 degree turn. I think Seattle is third on my list for most favorite.
