Saints Row 3 The Third

Just watched the IGN review. I'm a bit worried about the comments he said regarding the city not being "alive". I was hoping it would be just like GTA IV in terms of the cities pedestrians but it looks like it won't be quite as polished.

Last night, I beat all the primary missions of Saints Row 2, so I can say I'm ready for "Saints Row: The Third." I am somewhat ready to take on the challenges of Steelport if indeed I do get "Saints Row: The Third." Completing Saints Row 2 sets me up and puts me in the right spot to understand the third game's storyline.

I'm playing SR2 now for the first time and while it's not on par with GTA IV, it's a pretty good game with lots of original content and ideas. Can't wait for Friday when my copy of SR3 arrives..

Meanwhile, I just couldn't connect at all with GTA4. All I did in that game was just a few missions. After that, I just wasn't compelled to continue that game. Saints Row 2 has filled gaps that GTA4 gave me. One such example is the garage- you can customize any such car, return it to your garage, and be able to use it again and again until you decide to remove the car from your garage. You know how good this is? It seemed pointless trying to modify cars in "GTA: San Andreas" (for example) when it was going to be shot up and destroyed anyways with that game's terrible damage model.

Just going on SR2 and going into the third game, part of me feels a little skeptical on how the 3rd Street Saints go from essential street thugs to this professional-style mafia. I do enjoy the opportunity to battle against more gangs trying to take over Steelport. I am very sure there will be many more customization options in this game than what the Initiation Station provides.

Saints Row's Facebook fan page has a few more review of "Saints Row: The Third" from some other sources. Have a look if on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/SaintsRow .

Unless you mean graphics and physics SR2 was a lot more fun. But it was just me I guess. I haven't gotten far but the intro mission is more fun than GTA4's :) I think I may play a little SR2 tonight.

Yea the graphics and physics are what I meant. It is a lot of fun.

3 more days till I get my copy of sr3 :D

So uhhh, after trying to find online gameplay of SR3 I have realised that there is no online multiplayer! Pretty gutted about that, online modes are what give games their replay value so that's a huge bummer for me. GTA IV was awesome online, and SR3 could have been too. Pretty dumb move by them if you ask me.

How do you change clothes and tattoos? When I started the campaign all I could select is body, hair and all that stuff but not clothing.

Go to one of the cosmetic surgeons and you can change everything the way you want including your taunts, voice, appearance and um sexual organ size. As for clothes you get those at random clothing stores.

I played co-op last night for a solid 4 straight hours this game is so much FUN!! Everything about SR3 is better than SR2. Everything. You can buy houses together at the same time even if you are not the host, buy weapons at the same time, customize your character at the same time, you can do everything together and at the same time. In SR2 you had to take turns with buying weapons, couldnt buy property unless you were the host and much more. SR3 is improved in every single way. SR3 also has a lot of RPG elements to it since you can level up your character, your vehicles, and your weapons. Its just pure relentless FUN and miles ahead of SR2! 👍

Yup other sandbox games will need to make a massive leap forward to even think of having the fun that SR3 provides. GTA4 was a huge disappointment for me. They need to step it up bigtime for GTA5.

When you say JC3 I assume you mean Just Cause 3? Is that finally going to have co-op? JC1 and 2 were amazing games but I would love to see co-op in JC3.

I like what CAMAROBOY69 said in Post #38. Certainly something encouraging. I'll reserve any such opinions until I actually play the game myself... eventually. I still just can't connect with GTA4. So in a way, I do feel that playing Saints Row 2 was a good way to get jacked about this series.

I am somewhat not fond of the futuristic stuff, but I am surely curious and fond of playing through this whole game when I eventually do play it. My character will be human. I don't think I'll create any characters that are... you know, emerald, green, purple, not even blue. I love the fluidity in the characters' motions with the hair and the clothes compared to the SR2 models. I do like the more creative gangs based on what I've seen in videos. I'd hate to take on the Deckers, since their color is blue, and blue is my favorite color.

Can't wait to play it!

So, I've now played through the main story line solo and it was epic. No spoilers and I have to go through it again anyway (there are two endings but there are also a few other things to do differently and thus change certain unlocks), but it was awesome. Combat can get difficult (as in, you die) if you go in over your head and is at times a bit too "easy" but you're generally too busy having fun to notice that you're just roflstomping everything in your path.

Really it's gotta be the best executed sandbox game I've touched. The story is actually well thought out; it's a massive excuse for mayhem but it'll keep "what happens next?" in the back of your mind. I doubt it'll be any less fun the next time I go through it, and I will. Several times most likely.

I'm very impressed. I've not had this much fun out of $60 in about a year, the staying power of it probably won't be the best ever (racing games hold that for me) but it'll stay around for when I want to blow stuff up. A lot.

Question for you guys, what does rep do? I keep earning it but don't notice anything different as a result.

Thanks, I found the customization of my character.

Rep is SR3's take on experience. More rep = your "rep level" goes up = you unlock new stuff to buy in the Upgrades menu.

Really nice stuff. With enough rep and enough money you can potentially become invulnerable to pretty much everything. Which is nice aside from the fact that by the time you do you'll probably have done almost everything.

Really enjoying the game so far, the main missions are awesome and there are loads of side activities to find throughout the city. And it's a lot of fun to just cause havoc in free roam, especially with my Octopus gun and the Gat Mobile which I now have stored in my garage :D

The only thing that really annoys me is the way they have done the engine sounds. The sounds themselves are actually really good but they have implemented it all wrong. The sounds are not linked with how hard you are depressing the throttle, or with how fast you are actually going. So if you barely squeeze the trigger and are crawling down the street it still sounds like your in a drag race peeling off gears! It sounds terrible, I don't see why they would skimp out in this area when the rest of the game is pretty solid. The car physics are also a let down, I loved burning through the streets in GTA IV and causing big crashes but it doesn't feel the same in SR3 because of the unrealistic physics. Crashing into other cars is cool though because you can take out cars easier.

Also love the jet plane you can fly at the airport. And jumping off the top of buildings with your parachute..

I actually found the sound rather decent. It does seem to change in tone (and how hard each car "revs" before shifting) based on how far into the throttle you are. My complaint is that everything seems to have 9001 gears.

Yea because the only sounds are acceleration sounds. The sound does not react to how hard to press the throttle. If your just cruising it still sounds like your accelerating. And some cars never seem to top out, they just keep changing gears forever.

I don't see how they thought this was fine, it sounds retarded.

I noticed the sounds being one of the worst things about the game. Not the actual sound itself, just the implementation. I get a crap load of delayed sound effects when shooting or when I have a collision.

But the worst by far is the constant shifting. Makes me dread getting into cars.

Got it, it's a lot of fun so far.

I like how you can upgrade cars and the bonuses you can get for gaining rep is nice.

My only complaints so far are that the map seems a lot smaller than SR2 and the game itself seems to be a lot shorter. I only got to play it for about 2 hours last night, so that may change.

Tons of fun to play, I just don't see there being as much to do as there was in SR2...that game was HUGE.

Just saw the funniest thing in free roam. My gameplay time is around 20 hours and for the first time I saw the actual Professor GENKI running around like a mad man attacking the police and anyone who got In his way. I punched him and then he was on a mission to hunt me down, he wouldn't die no matter how many times I hit him

I received this game last weekend, and have to say that it's totally awesome. The storyline really excites me as there seems to be a lot more to it than during SR2, though it should be noted that I haven't really played that far yet.

The leveling up is a great thing, it also makes the money worth something, unlike SR2 where the only things that really cost big bucks are the bigger safehouses and the stores. Even guns can be upgraded and some level 4 upgrades look pretty hefty. Haven't got one of those yet, need a lot more respect for it first.

The Deckers look cool...

As a little ode to the fact we're at GTPlanet, here's a quick screenshot of one of my favorite rides

I traded in MW3 for this today and so far it's been a good move. It's absolutely brilliant! 'Hoarde' mode is superb 👍

Does anyone else feel they should have included online multiplayer? They scrapped it in order to make a better Co-op mode, I tried it once and it's pretty boring tbh. It's just the same main missions but you have help.

Online multiplayer could have been awesome in this game. I'm having loads of fun just by myself so I can only imagine what could have been....

Online multiplayer against others would've been amazing!
I haven't played a lot of the co-op, mainly because there are a lot of people who use cheats, and it kind of ruins the fun a bit. It would be great if they had some sort of filter option, so you could chose to join in with.

Yea you know what I mean  Big fail to not have it. I'm kind of getting bored of SR3 already.

Finished the story missions, was fun as hell 👍 By far and away the most hilariously random game of 2011.

Finished the story ages ago. Was great.

The things i dont like ...

Im dissapointed with the lack of interactive buildings eg. No hospital, airport to go in ect..

Most cribs have same interiors.

And the recruit homies thing, was great in sr2, getting them to baseball bat people and shooting them when you got a gun out. Now they are retarded.

Glad everyone is enjoying SR3. I havent finished the campaign yet. But what I have played has been epic. Just taking my time and helping other friends in the process in co-op.
