GTPlanet, this topic is dedicated to Saleen. The Saleen bunch are known mostly for modified Mustangs. And having seen Saleen Mustangs at this year's Houston Auto Show, I seen several mean Mustangs there. But one thing really stood out at me when I seen Saleens at the show, and that is the S7, of course. American car fans kind of normally not into exotic styling and flashy stuff like that, but the Saleen S7 was pretty cool when I seen it at the Houston Auto Show. It was low, it was mean, it's an American supercar. So as I was impressed to see my very first Aston Martin at the show (a couple of DB7s), and I was very impressed by the S7.

As far as Saleen Mustangs go, I've seen a few of them. And if you love the Mustang, you may like what the Saleen boys and girls like to do with Mustangs. I think I somewhat know someone with a Saleen Mustang, but I can't tell if it's a Ford or a Saleen modified one. Recently, the latest model is based on the most recent Mustang.

GTPlanet, let's talk about the monster car company Steve Saleen founded. Perhaps you want to talk about what makes Saleen so special. Wow. Once you count how many words start with "S" in my introduction (optional), you may reply now about Saleen. By the way, Saleen Performance Inc. is looking to celebrate 20 years of owning the road and the track.

I was there last year at the Concorso Italiano, when Steve Saleen himself started up his S7. It has a very deep, menacing rumble when it idles. Its 7 liter OHV V8 is louder than any other car I've ever heard as a pedestrian.

I saw an S7 at last year's Canadian International Autoshow, and I got right up close to a brand new Saleen Mustang at this year's show. When I was going around the car, I noticed something odd about it though. When I was checking out the body modifications made to the car, I found it was nothing but cheap, flimsy plastic on a $100,000 tuner car! It's clear that most of the money went towards the interior, engine, and suspension mods (or we can at least hope so!).

I also once golfed with someone who owns a Saleen Mustang. Unfortunately, I only found out he drove one when he was pulling out of the parking lot...

I met a guy with a Saleen Mustang once. It looked great, it sounded pathetic. It was a V6.
I hear thats actually what they sell the most of.

Steve also has a big hand in the design of the Ford GT.
I liked the red S7 featured in the Gillette Mach3 Turbo commercial

50 Cent's own red S7 was in his Candy Shop video.

The S7 is amazing. Most people I've been around who see it for the 1st time wonder why its so long and wide and think it may not be big enough to fit in their garage.

I just laugh. Its a very beautiful car, and has a very nice feel on the inside.

You know what I've never thought of before? Jaguar and Aston Martin could become potential Saleen products. Oh dear god. We may end up seeing a Saleen Zagato or Saleen XKR- which would be kind of neat...American brute force combined with European engineering and style...

Oh yeah, 50 Cent had a sweet Saleen S7 in that video. Had that dude on TRL this past Friday. Man! Dude was blinging, man! Had a big ring on with lots of diamonds, then some diamond bracelets. Dude got money!

You know I like the styling of the latest Mustang. It's so mean looking with matching performance. I seen one the other day in black with tan accents (like some of those retro oxford sneakers nowadays), and it didn't have those two extra lights. But I seen the latest Mustang modified by Saleen, and at first, I thought the Saleen S7 was there! But these were Mustangs with extended bodywork, seemingly. It's too bad I don't have pictures to show of the latest Mustangs modified by Saleen, and then have them matched up against the latest Ford Mustang.

If you've played Gran Turismo 2, you may have seen the "Home Improvement" sponsored Saleen SR Widebody. That was about the last awesome Mustang I can remember from Saleen Performance. I think actor/racer Tim Allen and Steve Saleen have notched up championships in the SCCA for three straight years between 1996 and 1998 (or set me straight if I'm wrong) in a Mustang.

The Saleen S7 is about the sexiest and fastest all-American car today. I think the S7 Turbo's numbers beat the Chrysler ME412 in terms of acceleration and even weight. Unless restrictions are too strict, I'd hate to not see the S7 Turbo in GT/sportscar/endurance racing. That thing is for real, man!

A Saleen-modified Jaguar XKR? A Saleen DBR9? Wonder how the British would respond to that last statement, PS...

Saleen Mustangs are really cool, but I would take a Roush over a Saleen any day.

A buddy of mine has an internship with Saleen, he goes to Kettering University. Any ways he works in the engineering department but he said that they are pretty secertive on many of there projects, so he really couldn't tell me any thing.

You know....

By that same logic, we may someday see a Saleen RX8 or Miata. Mazda is part of Ford Group too, after all.

I normally call the Saleen S7 as America's McLaren F1 because of its looks. Would I say that Saleen COPIED the F1 to make this supercar? No, I don't think so. After all, they are alike in ways, and I've even did a thread on them once. Both the S7 and the F1 are expensive, powerful (F1 has more), fast (F1 is faster), and are lightweight (F1 is lighter). With the Saleen S7 Turbo out, it's going to really be the top supercar in the world out of America. We've seen the Vector M12, we've seen the Chrysler ME412, the S7 Turbo could be the most insane production car out of America. And if I was the all-American boy when it comes to cars and I wanted the best of the best, this machine (turbo or not) would be my pick.

Someone was talking about those Saleen Mustangs as expensive tuner cars. Would you put Saleen in the same gene pool as Spoon, Amuse, Opera, and such?

Perhaps Saleen vs. R-E Amemiya? That'd be an interesting tuner-cars competition :dopey:

I'm no Saleen or Mustang person, but my grandmother's neighbour has a burgundy Saleen Mustang, looks the business. Says Saleen 307 on the back, I think. I'm not entirely sure if that's any good though, maybe it's really a Peugeot.

Many companies have been owned by Ford for many years, but I don't recall Saleen ever modifying a non-Ford ...

Now thats what I call rice. They bump the displacement to 2.3 liters, and obviously they havent done much else, because it only makes 150 hp. plus it gets all the fancy bodywork that wont do a thing at the limited speeds a 150 hp car is capable of. The only real performance gains come from an additional 75 shot of nitrous. :yuck:

You want a real Focus? Check out the Ford Racing FR200. With a turbocharged 2.0 liter inline 4 making 300 hp and 285 lb/ft of torque. Yeah so the body kit is a bit over the top, but I dare some one to call it rice. Even with all the (wind tunnel tested) bodywork, it beat a Corvett Z06 around the "big track" at willow springs. It's as fast as it looks.

Could it beat a Corvette Z06 upside down?

Because I know of a car that can.

Downforce? Does that have anything to do with the fact that the Saleen S7 could go upside down at top speed?

Hahaha, I think it has something to do with special tires. 💡

Saleens are sweet and thats all I'm gonna say.

What does it flip or roll over at high speeds :D.

M5Power

Should we set a date for us to test this?

Love to, but im not paying for the car if I leave it on it roof .

I think I'll just watch :)

I wonder if M5Power can go upside down at top speed...

Would you call Saleen a real automobile maker or a tuner group? Even though the firm has modified a lot of Mustangs, the company did make their own car, the Saleen S7. It's a world-class exotic car that you'd have to sell your soul to the Devil to own. Maybe not world-class in terms of Enzo killing (care to set us straight?), but about the most recent real supercar out of the United States. The Saleen Mustangs I've seen of late are pretty mean in their own sense. Just look at one. Meanness at its best, perhaps with power and performance to back it all up. After all, you don't mess with an American legend like the Mustang (unless you have a Camaro to further extend the rivalry among these two cars).

And uh, let's try to stay on this subject, please?

Ok, ok. As much as I have detracted from this thread I feel I must contribute, and hey i've got some good stuff. I though it was neat that the lower lip of the S7's front fascia actualy hides a sheet of carbon fiber strong enough to bear the entire weight of the vehicle. It even comes with replaceable teflon skids. Also, as has been discussed allready in this thread, although not directly. At speed the S7's bodywork produces approximately it's weight in downforce. So it really could be driven upside down in a tunnel or whatever.
