Everytime I hear "Saleen", I think of the 80's & 90's Mustangs with disgusting body-kits and ghetto decals. I do like the 05's though. Lot less decals and less flashy body-kits. :)

Should we set a date for us to test this?

get a mega wind tunnel and string a bunch of super strong elastic bands from wall to wall.

all you'd have to do is drop the saleen upside-down on the bands. it should keep it suspended, no?

then you can watch as it floats back up....

lol.

The one Saleen that has really taken my interest is the new Saleen Mustang. Its gorgous, imo, and I think it sits at a somewhat reasonable price.

And no M5, it can't go upside down. :sly:

The Mosler MT900 is an American made supercar other than the S7. I think it ought to be able go upside down, since it weighs under 2000 lbs and produces enough downforce to actually limit it's top speed to under 200.

Saleen sure has managed to make some ugly things over the years.

Would you call Saleen a real automobile maker or a tuner group?

Manufacturor. Technically you could clain that a company like pontiac is in the business of making body kits for toyotas(well ok, one) along with producing cars, but noone would call them a tuner. They've crossed the line and unless something drastic happens they will stay a manufacturor.

So I hear. Ick.

By the way, did you know the S7 can go upside down at top speed?

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I have heard that many times, but is there a video to prove that? :odd:

I saw the Saleen S7 Twin Turbo at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show! :O It have this orange looking paint job with a "twin turbo" badge on the right side of the rear. That car is so gorgeous! :O:O:O

In my view, Saleen is a "manufacturer" only as far at the S7 - the Mustangs don't count. This is based on the VIN numbers of the Mustangs they modify: if they were a seperate manufacturer, they would have seperate VIN numbers, apart from Mustangs. But they use the same VIN codes as Ford does, so they're not a unique manufacturer (all 2005 Ford Mustang, Roush Mustang, and Saleen Mustang VINs begin with 1ZV).

I think it's my life's goal to find out whether the S7 can in fact go upside down at top speed.

inferno
a sheet of carbon fiber strong enough to bear the entire weight of the vehicle.

Most cars can support their own weight if rolled over. WRC rally cars can support up to 4x of their own weight. And when you see those WRC crashes where the roll cage gets bent into the cabin, it gives you a good idea of the impact.

In Madison, Wisconsin... we have the only Saleen dealership in the state. Occasionally I go up and check out the new Saleens. :)

Awhile ago they had an S281-E with the one-year only Mystichrome paintjob from the "regular" SVT Cobra of 2004.

I got to sit in it 👍 It was marked around $75K

The fact that its based on a Mustang shows through. You can really see it in the interior. They didn't change anything there. Added a little supercharger boost guage pod on top of the middle of the dash is all really...

Have you ever driven one? Performance makes up for it. Maybe not to $75k, but when I was checking the VIN statistic on AutoTrader, an '05 Saleen coupe was marked in the $40s - I can easily see paying that.
