San Andreas behaving weird on PS2

This just started yesterday. I was messin around in Los Santos when all of a sudden I noticed some textures not looking right. It happens mainly on the roads. It is like they aren't meshing right. In some spots they abruptly change. Almost from a higher-res texture to a lower-res one. The game also seems to hiccup more. At first I was thinking the PS2 was dying again, but it makes no noises and I don't experience weird anomalies in other games. Vice City seems ok as well as GT4. This is currently my second PS2. The first one died from the disc read error (launch unit). The current one was bought in late 2004. The San Andreas disc doesn't have too many scratches. The thing that jumps out at me is something like a ring of light scratches going around the disc. It doesn't cover the entire disc, but is more like a line. One part of the game seems to slow down the most is by the railroad station in Los Santos near were the lowrider meet takes place. It never slowed down there before. Could it just be the disc? I cleaned it today along with the laser on the PS2. Neither helped.

Are you sure nothing scrapes along the disc?

As long as your other games work fine, your PS2 is fine. You may want to post a pic of the state your disc is in. Be sure to clean them regulary (moisty cloth, from inside to outside in a straight line), and don't let discs lay around where they shouldn't be.

On the road texturing issue, it's normal. It happens to every game as far as I know. Just stop your car and the road should turn back normal. This is probably due to the PS2 not coping of bringing up all those details at once when you're driving with reasonably speed through sections. Don't worry about the road thingy, it only happens to me in LS.

Be sure to take care of your disc, as long as it's playable, your good, but if it gets worse and nearly not playable or enjoyable to play, buy a new disc 👍

Hope this helps

You mean on the tray? I'm pretty sure things are fine there.

I can post a pic, but I don't know if my camera will be able to catch all the minute details. I don't leave the discs laying around in the open. If I am playing a game, I will leave it in the PS2 so I don't have to take it in and out all the time. If it's not in the PS2 it is in its case.

I get that, too. However these roads do not load like they usually do. It doesn't matter how long I let it set. I hope it is just the disc.

Here's a photo. Like I said, I don't know how good it will do. There's allot of reflection.

So those roads stay like that the whole time you're playing? Or is it only in certain areas?

If it's only in certain areas, I wouldn't make too much of a big deal of it but if it's like that for like...whole LS, then I'd consider buying a new disc...

Is that the scratch you're talking about, the one on the left? It's quite messed up by the looks of it...:scared:

Hehe No, that's not the scratch. That's part of the ceiling. It is a drop ceiling so that is the support you are seeing. :dopey: You can see the ceiling as well as the cabinet in the disc's reflection. Heck, you can even see part of electronic battleship sitting on the cabinet.
