Save replay files in regular Video format

We can currently save and export our replays to be watched on other PS3s, with the game running, but we cannot currently get it exported and uploaded directly to YouTube or other video hosting sites easily, without using a capture card.

A lot of times, even a short 10 second segment of your replay is a lot more capable of showing the action than a snapshot using Photo Mode, however great they come out.

I already use Photo Mode a lot, but I would use the Replay more often if I were able to capture a segment sometimes. Avoiding a big accident, recovering from a spin, or simply some really nice lines to use on certain corners, a cool drift, etc. A lot can be done.
 
Since PS3 isn't as streamlined as PS4, this feature would go a long way towards making sharing of videos etc easier and quicker...

They announced this pre GT5, but it was scrapped for limited RAM or something.

(it was about upload to youtube)

Forza has been doing this for years with up to 30 second segments in up to 720p. On Xbox 360.

Here is one of mine, multiple 30 second segments combined in QuickTime.

ah if the RAM was the limit, I believe it may not be possible =(

I know for a fact that PS3 doesn't have cross-game voice chat because RAM doesn't permit it (it has less RAM than PS Vita) so it may very well be a limiting factor...

HOWEVER, it doesn't mean it's impossible just yet, as I have HAWX and HAWX2 that has this "upload to YouTube" feature on PS3 and it works great! (although it only records "live", and not from a replay... not sure if it's system limitations or just a design flaw)

Good but useles to 99% of players as its very limited to just a half a minute or need some experience in making a videos.
 
I disagree that it would be useless for 99% of people.

The 30 second limit is not a show stopper, but it is a nuisance. I'm sure Turn 10 chose this limit because of the decision to force the user to transfer the video from the Xbox 360 to the PC or Mac via their Xbox Live servers. Which is an even bigger nuisance.

On a PS3, there is no reason to impose such a restriction, since the video could be saved on a (user upgradable) hard drive and transferred via a USB drive. The only limitation would be the amount of free disk space for work areas and saving the final file.

So for people who are interested in making videos, it would be as easy as making photos.
 
Well, the option to render the replay as an avi with the camera view we want sounds possible, but you would need at a bare minimum 3x as long as the replay is to render it, and you certainly wouldn't be able to do anything else in the meantime, much like exporting photos or updating car thumbnails. I would love this feature, it would certainly be better than recording videos through RCA cables at 576i/25fps.
 
How about going one step further: Render the replay with the photo mode. The console can't show replays like this in real time since photos take so long to render, but if it was making a video file, it wouldn't have to do it in real time. (Although it might take hours to encode just a short replay. >.<)

Failing that, generate a photo for every frame (25, 30 or 60 frames per second) of the replay, and save them all to the hard drive so we can put them together in some video editing program on a PC. ^^? (Again, it could take hours to render a few thousand photos... >.<)

Sure, if you don't mind bumping a button and not being able to use your PS3 for 8 hours.
 
I have to say this is something i would appreciate. Its a feature that games like shift 2, and grid autosport have. It only makes sense to incorporate in conjunction with being able to upload photos.
 
This is a feature that definitely should be in the game, after all on the back of the box it says "gameplay recording & upload" but I've never seen anything like that in the game. Listing a feature on the box but not including it in the game is false advertising, plain & simple.

As much as this feature is awesome it is pretty much useless. The PS3 is not powerful enough to render both GT6 and a video. Other games have either low requirements or limitations on recording. DoA5 replays can be uploaded to YT but only in a 360p format, on GT6 it would look awefull as crap.

Future games will be on PS4 so people can record gameplay there.
 
The best would be PC application that would recognize GT replay files and then turn them into videos - also some Film Director Mode would be good (Driver anyone?)

Only some time and enough processing power would be needed.

I believe that is almost equivalent to porting GT6's entire graphics engine to PC. I don't think it's feasible. o.o
 
That's pretty much true, yes. To try to explain it, replay files are essentially like sheet music, and GT6 is the instrument; rather than the replay files being actual videos. The only real way to record a replay on the fly from the game without a capture card is have the game itself do it.



For what it's worth, though, with the PS4's built in media sharing functionality it should be trivial to allow the game to simply dump a video file onto the hard drive instead of "sharing" it like the system does now. PS3 though is probably out of luck; especially for a game that already runs it ragged like GT6 does.
