As you may know, due to their own agendas, the local government at Spa have decided to conspire against the Belgian GP and the track itself, falsely pointing the finger at the residents by falsely claiming they had complained.

As a result, the track has had it's operating license suspended until 2026 which pretty much kills the track off in what many believe to be a deliberate move towards removing motorsport from Belgium.

I'v just found the official petition to save the track, and it is open to all and I have also put it through google translator to save time for you guys:
http://translate.google.com/transla...rancorchamps.html&sl=fr&tl=en&history_state0=

I do not intend to spam the forum, but I do believe that this is a cause that all Gran Turismo fans will fully support with their passion for motorsport and cars, so sign the petition and spread the word and hope the voices of the motorsport community are heard by the moronic governors who decided to impose the ban.

What exactly is the situation there?

Has racing had to stop there immediately? Is there an appeals process?

I can only find vague information about this on the internet.

I've signed the petition but would still like to know more about it.

There arent much details on it, but the local government has used locals as a scapegoat for their own personal agenda of removing the track. Also its the same situation that is blighting racetracks across the globe:

Ignorant idiots unaware of motorsport and unaware that there is a track and have the nerve to move in and complain and take the track to court. The local government who are equally ignorant then go on a power trip 'for the good of society' then decide to excersise their powers and have the track closed. Much to the disgust of the locals who were already there and just to satisfy a SMALL minority of idiots who just moved in while the track has been there alot longer as well as greedy real estate guys who don't care what they put out of business to grab land.

French/Belgian authorities have been notorious for closing racetracks, victims include: Reims-Geaux, Rouen-Les-Essarts, Clermont-Ferrand/Charrade and almost Le Mans in the 70's.

In 2007 we almost lost Brands Hatch thanks to a moronic Italian couple, as a result a 90db limit was imposed which can be exceeded in the case of a world class event. The UK had already lost Crystal Palace and Brooklands thanks to such stupidity.

Across America many race tracks have been lost to simular reasons, perhaps the most famous would be Riverside.

There are also rumors circulating that Bernie Ecclestone is the architect of this, its no secret that he is against the traditional circuits.

I'm expecting Spa-Francorchamps to dissapear from the F1 calendar anyway. Spa costs the Belgian government just too much money. The whole re-infrastructure of the circuit came with a big price tag, and even though F1 tickets can cost up to 300 euros each, the government loses much money on the circuit. It's a beautiful circuit, yes, but I would not hesitate to close it myself if it were only costing me money and not giving me any kind of profits.

Why not just stop hosting Grand Prix? No more Spa 24 hours among other events will be a great shame. I'm sure the track can still be profitable with other events, if it didn't have to pay the fees to Bernie.
The thought of this circuit being lost forever is not good 👎

Does anyone know if racing & trackdays have currently stopped at Spa as a result of this?

The track is still opperational, the ban has been lifted as long as the organisers can prove the working relationship with the community, which they will do, this petition is to prevent the goverMENTALS from finding loopholes as this is their way of 'going green', its nothing to do with cost and loss, Spa actually profits alot via other means which they hide from Bernie & Co

Signed, hopefully not needed but motorsport fans have to support events all over the world or we'll end up with nothing left.

Which local drunkard did you ask?!! Theyre not that expensive.

Who would live near a race track if they hate the racing? Why should the government care, they chose to move there and whatever problems they have relating to the circuit, that's their problem.

That's a Bernie-related problem. And if I have to choose between Bernie and Spa, I go for Spa.

I have a friend who is an estate agent near Kent, and he tells me they know fullwell theres a track there, they just simply say 'we'll just take them to court so we can put a stop to that, not like anyone watches cars going round in circles'

Its a mix of ignorance, arrogance, idiotic governents/councils, urban sprawling, greedy real estate people and the wrong people in charge of tracks. I won't be surprised if we lose another high profile circuit to this kind of nonsense.

one of the reasons that i hate people that use the legal system for their own (usually monetary) gain

Forbid the operation of the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps and the economic future of our region

that sounds like the petition is to close the circuit. is that really what it is or just a bad translation?

+1 👍

Signed. We shouldn't be losing Spa. Less street courses and more Spa's, I say.
